Dear Liberian Observer,
ArcelorMittal Liberia seizes this opportunity to convey its appreciation for the valued friendship with the Liberian media and your newspaper in particular. ArcelorMittal Liberia believes in freedom of the press and respect for human rights and recognizes the impact journalists and their media institutions are making to improve our world.
As a daily consumer of the product of your work, ArcelorMittal Liberia registers its concerns over the accuracy of aspects of your May 7, 2021 editorial captioned
“Are We Any Less Human Than They?”
Although we are not sure about the motive of the editorial, we wish to point out that your insinuation about the ArcelorMittal Liberia Mineral Development Agreement (MDA) offering little or no social or economic benefit to Liberia is untrue, factually incorrect and can only misinform the public if we do not correct it. When you wrote “Were our officials not aware of the implications to the posterity of their decision to waive our sovereign rights over those assets to a multinational giant in exchange for a pittance?”, we conclude that  you were making a direct reference to the company’s MDA.
