Oregon’s new FBI boss offering local police help to investigate spike in Portland shootings

On Dec. 7, more than 50 bullets struck a small house in the 600 block of Northeast Morgan Street. Police found 83 shell casings nearby. In the first nine weeks of this year, Portland police have responded to 195 shootings, excluding suicides or attempted suicides. Fourteen people have died in shootings, out of 19 homicides so far this year.

Calling the significant spike in shootings in Portland a “public safety crisis,” the new agent in charge of Oregon’s FBI said the FBI is offering to provide help.
