Opinion: Grist for the Mill: What a fool believes

According to my calendar, this issue of the Chronicle publishes on April Fool’s Day. The most childlike of holidays, the one that’s the bane of many people’s existences thanks to bad internet pranks gone wrong, one that isn’t quite as fun for those of us in a remote workforce who can’t, say, hide pictures of birds with human arms in their co-worker’s cubicle.
Not that I’ve ever done such a thing. No, certainly not me.
Still, we’re now 55 weeks into the three weeks to crush the curve, and life as we know it is completely different. President Biden hopes we’ll have a more typical Fourth of July, but even that seems rather ambitious. Governor Baker, who has done almost nothing right in regard to this pandemic despite his best efforts, hopes to have every adult eligible for a vaccine on Patriots Day. At least in the Raymond Compound, we’ll stay hunkered down until the adults are vaccinated, and hopefully we’ll be able to see other vaccinated adults during the summer.
