"A 70-year-old man and his dog don't just disappear from a tiny Outback town...The case will only be closed when it is solved," he said.
Mae Screeney, an Abbeyfeale native and Mr Moriarty's second cousin, told The Kerryman that she hopes this will prove to be an inspired move on the part of Australian police.
"It's really interesting, it's wonderful," she said. "Somebody knows something, don't they? And this might be what's needed to tempt someone to come forward and bring closure in relation to what happened to him."
None of Mr Moriarty's relatives were aware that Mary Theresa Moriarty - who lived out her days in Jersey, where she died in 1995 - had a son, and efforts to find out about his upbringing in Ireland prior to moving to Australia in the mid-1960s have so far proven as frustratingly fruitless as efforts to find out what happened to him in December 2017.
