OGDENSBURG — The Ogdensburg Public Library Board of trustees submitted a letter to City Council Monday requesting support for a public referendum that would provide $225,000 in additional taxes to help fund the library.
The city has been defunding the library in recent years as it works to balance its books and plans to completely end all funding to the library next year.
The move has pushed the library to collect its own taxes through a public referendum attached to the Ogdensburg School District Budget. Although the two are voted on separately, the referendum includes the entire Ogdensburg school district and will be held at the same time as the school budget vote.
