The Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network, whose members refer to it as CoCoRaHS, is an organization of volunteers of all ages and backgrounds who measure rain, hail and snow and record these measurements on the groupâs interactive website.
âI was born with the weather bug,â Jay Shafer said. âI think itâs the captivation of the power of Mother Nature.â
The Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network was formed in 1998 after a flash flood in Fort Collins, Colo.
Shafer, who is professor of atmospheric science a Northern Vermont University-Lyndon, said people realized then there was a need for a better precipitation data.
