LONG ISLAND, NY — With several inches of snow on the ground already on Long Island, another half-foot or more is expected to accumulate overnight, the National Weather Service says.
A band of heavy snow will continue to fall over the island through 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. Snowfall rates will reach up to 1 to 2 inches per hour. Winds will be "very gusty" as well, especially along the coast where gusts will reach near 40 mph at times, the weather service says.
Travel is not recommended. Snow covered and icy roads, along with poor visibility, are causing dangerous conditions on the roads.
