Despite new guidance from the CDC to wear masks indoors and Kansas City joining St. Louis to reinstate their masking ordinance, Springfield city leaders say there are no plans for a new mask mandate.
Earlier this month, Springfield Mayor Ken McClure told the News-Leader that “a return to mandated masking is not going to solve a problem.”
“It's going to keep people, I think, from being vaccinated because they will say I won't have to,” McClure said. “And to me mandated masking had its role and its place, and it was to buy us enough time to get vaccinations available to the population. We are there. The solution’s here. People need to step up and take it.”
