New COVID cases among 572 students, 48 staff members in past week; 0.08% of students in Massachusetts schools reported with virus

A total of 620 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Massachusetts schools, education officials said Thursday.
Those cases, detected from May 6 to 12, are among 572 students and 48 staff members who have been inside a public school building in the seven days before testing positive, according to a weekly report from the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The overall percentage of COVID cases in schools is low and stands at 0.08% among students and 0.04% among staffers, according to the report.
From May 3 to 9, the state-funded pooled coronavirus testing program had a positivity rate of 0.71%, according to the department. In that period, 176 districts have participated. There have been 12,763 pools processed with 91 positive results.
