Attorney General Dana Nessel said recent comments by the Michigan Republican Party chairman are the latest example of hostile rhetoric that emboldens violent threats against public officials.
At a meeting of the North Oakland Republican Club, Michigan GOP Chairman Ron Weiser was recorded calling Nessel, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson “witches” who will be “burning at the stake” in 2022 elections. Nessel joked about the comment on Twitter last week, but in an interview with MLive on Thursday, she said Weiser’s words have stuck with her.
