National Giving Hearts Day 2021: How Charity Can Make A Difference
02/11/21 AT 7:20 AM
National Giving Hearts Day was introduced to remind people about how charity is empowering to both the giver and the receiver. Helping people overcome their miseries is a rewarding and fulfilling experience, and spreading awareness about the importance of giving is the main objective of National Giving Hearts Day.
The day typically falls on the second Thursday in February every year and several fundraising events are organized to encourage people to take part.
The history behind National Giving Hearts Day:
It was founded in the year 2008 by Dakota Medical Foundation (DMF) and North Dakota-based Impact Foundation with an aim to promote fundraising. Every year since then, the 24-hour event is celebrated in charities across North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota. The day saw $500,000 being raised through the event in its first year and the total donated amount surpassed $13 million in 2019.
