JOHANNESBURG - Late minister in the Presidency, Jackson Mthembu has once again been described as a rare leader.
An official memorial service was held virtually on Monday after it was postponed on Saturday.
Deputy President, David Mabuza delivered the keynote tribute.
Mabuza described Mthembu as an outstanding son of the soil.
“This is not a passing of an individual, but a premature departure of a representative of the great generation," he said.
"The likes of Minister Mthembu come to pass this way once. In their way, they leave us the gifts of liberty and freedom.”
Mthembu died from COVID-19 complications and was laid to rest on Sunday in his hometown, eMalahleni in Mpumalanga.
