To help ensure, a second u. S. Aircraft carrier, the eisenhower, will join the uss channel for the Eastern Mediterranean. And inside israel, relentless threats from the air. We were rushed to a bomb shelter as Air Raid Sirens went off. We experienced what life is like even here in tel aviv. 20 of us including all six senators had to be evacuated into a shelter because they were attacks. Thank god none of them hit. It also happened to the u. S. Delegation here. Senators forced to take coverage. Ms. Ronny and along with others to meet with israeli officials as well as families americans taken hostage by Hamas Terrorists. What was the first thing he wanted to tell the Israeli Forces . I want to tell israel leaders, we have your back. Do you think there is hope to Rescue American hostages . Of course there. Is thats what they were. Gab tomas wants to see if they cant get something. Hope is all this family has. They havent heard from their loved ones. Keith and adrian segel, since saturday. Neighbor saw Hamas Terrorists marching from their homes. You met with the United States senators. What did you tell them. We all told him that we want to their families back in israel and now. We have not got time. When you need them to bring them back to their homes. Back to their children. Back to the grandchildren. Just some of the americans who have loved ones that are now hostages, being held by those Hamas Terrorists. Tonight we have reporters fanned out all across the region. We want to take you now to the border between israel in the gaza where those as really forces are preparing for an alland assault on hamas. Alison barber joins us now live from that tense border. Alison youve been reporting there for several days now and urinary tonight where there is been heavy military movements. I understand youve seen some equipment moving the just the last couple of hours . Hey, tom. Thats right weve seen that happen a lot in the last few days since weve been here in the last couple of hours. We have seen two small convoys. And you may be seeing some flashing over behind my shoulder. That is gaza just behind us. And the last little bit of time we started to see the skyline back their light up with the pockets armed three times. In probably the last ten minutes. But for the most part things here have been eerily quiet. I spoke to around this time last night and said the same thing. But what we have been seeing our movements of Military Equipment. We saw two small convoys tonight of Flatbed Trucks which was a boom off in the distance in gaza just now with the Flatbed Trucks we saw they were carrying Armed Personnel Carriers in the direction of gaza. One thing that was different could deny compared to when we saw Military Equipment the other day, is they didnt stop the military staging were in there. They kept going appear to be heading straight for the gaza border. Tom. Alison, i know youve been talking to Israeli Soldiers there where you are. They are essentially waiting for this invasion to begin. How are they feeling right now . Whats the mood there . Some of them are frustrated when they specifically talk about how all this started. The terror attacks that unfolded on saturday. They talk about their pain and their frustration. One idf commander we met in the gas patient not far from here today, went in to talk to us. He talked about how frustrated he was that it took so long for the Security Forces to respond to the initial terror attack. And the fact is taken so many days, seemingly, for any sort of real offensive to go into gaza to try to get the hundred plus people out from inside. He looked at me and he said im 32 years old. Me and many other men my age would walk into gaza right now and say, take us but let the women and the children and the elderly go. They are frustrated because we have over 100 people inside of gaza still stuck, and so many of them really are very young. They are older and they are women and they are civilians and they want nothing to do with any of the conflicts at play here. Tom. Alison barber speaking to the soldiers and the families that are out on the front lines. Alison, we thank you for your report. Its been over 40 hours since the Israeli Military gave a warning to 1. 1 million civilians in gaza to evacuate in preparation for a Ground Offensive. Joining us tonight is the International Spokesman for the Israeli Defense force. Jonathan conricus. Jonathan, i know your country is at war. So i appreciate you taking the time to talk to me and that your viewers. Tonight there is news that the lawful border kneejerk will be open for Palestinian Foreign nationals. Including americans, together than just a few hours. And for aides to come in. Can you tell us tonight, categorically, that there will be no bombing or shelling of this area as people are trying to cross and humanitarian assistance is trying to get in . Sorry, i was on mute. Thank you for having me. How repeat what i said. That was not audible. Weve already tried with the egyptians and these egyptians and americans and others to negotiate a safe passage of the americans out of the cars a straight. We made sure that there was no military activity of ours in the area. But it was stopped by hamas. So it is very much up to hamas to decide if theyre going to allow and what is going to happen. Of course, anything humanitarian coordinated with his role of the government or the military will be respected clearly. Jonathan, idf was reporting that there are 126 hostages confirmed. These are people kidnapped by the terrace of hamas, and only so much evil on your people. Has there been any communication between hamas and israel, or a third party like another country, and praying as hostages . Not the time where, of no. I dont have to remind you about what many of our viewers may not be as familiar with. An israeli soldier the hamas kept hidden for five years. Five long years. Its like a Prisoner Swap of 1000 palestinian prisoners to get him back. What makes you think hamas will negotiate with you where the u. S. For those american hostages . For tho what hamas will do ie less concern. Without going into politics and strategies, i dont think israel is looking to negotiate. What we are going to do is to dismantle hamas. Its military leadership, its military capabilities. So that at the end of this war, how must not have any military capability. And of course, it is our intention and commitment to the families of those held hostage, to bring those israelis home. I know you are aware of that convoy of palestinians that was struck. 70 people, including children, trying to flee gaza. Palestinian media, they are our ports that it was not israeli air strikes. I know israel is denying those reports. What is your understanding of what happened then was it an israeli airstrike that killed those innocent palestinians . We are in a war zone. And in war, lots of things happened at the same time. Or also encompasses the information realm. And what we have said on equivocally, the idea of a spokes person, and everybody else, we have not targeted in the convoy and the civilians on that road, and nowhere else in general. Clearly no purpose full target. It may have been listened to fire around out, but thats a very unlikely. What is unlikely to bring to the floor is i would just like to complete and say jonathan, i just want to stop you from a moment. It sounds a little bit from the what weve heard from israeli officials. Are you saying there is still a possibility it is indeed an israeli airstrike. But it was a, mistake within might have been israeli bombs that killed a 70 people . In a minutes, advance thats where i was getting to. Now its governed by a Terrorist Organization that has a long track record, proven record, of lying and falsify and dealing in misinformation. We assassinated this hamas who in fact staged these explosions. And where hamas is responsible for what happened, here at this stage we have tried to cooperate questions and understand what happened. It is a very chaotic environment. What i can say clearly, unequivocally, is that we did not in any case target any cadre. I want to be on the safe side and say, things can happen in war both of nothing purposeful. I think they would be looking at who would stand to gain from such a convoy being impact, specifically on the roads that we make sure we would be open for evacuation. The organization that stands to gain from this is hamas. Unfortunately i dont think it would be beneath hamas to attack their own civilians if they think it would gain them anything in the realm of diplomacy or International Public opinion. Jonathan with the idea, we thank you for your. Time, kate i will send it back over to you in new york. , don. You just a few hours from now that Rafah Crossing, we are told, will open up as one is the only Escape Routes for foreign nationals Including Americans inside of gaza. To get out of harms way. Its not clear how long it will stay open. Joining me now is jeremy bash, former chief of staff with the cia Department Of Defense at Nbc News National Security analyst jeremy, good to have you with us. Can you help our . Viewers we have our maps. This rafah Border Crossing, how big is it . What would be how hard with the piece you get many many people through that opening . It is not very big. Imagine the size of an nfl stadium, with Hundreds Of Thousands of, people maybe millions of people trying to get into this area. Look at the snap right here, we have gossip here in the orange. We have egypt, and continuous land border, between egypt and gaza. This Border Crossing is the only Land Crossing that is available for the palestinians coming south through the gaza strip. Israel over here in yellow, to Border Crossings up. North for the people of, gaza when they get into each of, theyre going to be obviously in a country that can take care of them, provide humanitarian assistance for them. Lets talk about reporting in the New York Times tonight that says the goal of israel, israels military, goal is to gaza cities up in the northern part of the country. So walk us through that. If that is the goal right in the middle of the evacuation zone, what does that mean . Israel in, green closet in orange. At the north and gaza city, north of the Gaseous Strip is as a city. The population will be evacuated south out of this red area, down into the orange area. And ultimately potentially something that will lead through egypt. Although not yet, right . Those who have foreign passports. Ultimately there will be humanitarian support that will go in through the Rafah Crossing, in from the green to the. Orange and the population there will get some humanitarian relief. Israels military objectives is to try to isolate gaza city. Not to bulldoze the entirety of the jaws of Civilian Area but rather theyre going after specific targets. You can see here in the dark colors, specific areas where hamas is assessed to have their command and control. A system have Weapons Caches and rocket tractors. I think this is a very important point. Israels Military Operation is not just a bulldoze to town. It specifically Intelligence Driven after Special Reports we see there on the map. Hes block areas we see on the map where our strikes from israel have come down. Or some sort of it is like those darker areas on the map here is where you will see ground operations. Naval fires. Longridge fires. Drone strikes and ground troops. Dismounted officer armored personnel carriers. To track down Hamas Terrorists. I want to ask about Secretary Blinken. The Secretary Of State has been all over the region in the last several days. We have a map of where he has a bed. This is from the pelosi, right . This is going to talk with lots of different players. What is the goal . The goal here is to ensure that iran does not trump in. He is going to lead to talk about humanitarian assistance. In the persian golf to talk about how to negotiate with hamas. Potentially getting the hostages out. Going to United Arab Emirates into saudi arabia and to jordan. Other golf in the arab allies and partners, they actually work cooperatively with israel. They do not want to see a wider war. I think it is important to know that if iran troops into this through this proxy as well in the northern part of israel after at the top of that yellow area in Southern Lebanon at the top of that part in israel, if Hezbollah Thompson that will essentially be a war between israel and iran. Thats what weve got our Carrier Strike group in the Eastern Mediterranean right near israel in that waterway there. That is to deter around from jumping into this war. Thank you so much. Very helpful to see them talk about it. Jeremy bash. Still ahead, tonight the american stuck in gaza. Ill talk with the dad and grandfather here in the u. S. Hoping his daughters family will get. Hours plus as we go on breaking that we hear from voices of this war on both sides. Its literally a humanitarian crisis. Welcome back to nbc news a special port on a war between israel and hamas. Im tom giannis live in tel aviv. A second aircraft, carrier uss eisenhower, speaking towards the mediterranean. To join the fourth off of israels part of the u. S. s response. Tonight right now id like to bring in Nbc News National Security correspondent Courtney Kube. Explain to our viewers what the world of the two u. S. Warships sitting off of israel really is right now . Right now it really comes down to one world. And that is deterrence. We just heard jeremy bash talking about this. There is a real concern throughout the, world especially here in the United States, and this war could spread into a regional conflict. It could simply move outside of the Borders Of Israel and gaza. That is the real message that the u. S. Is sending with the aircraft carriers, and whats the startled are for. Destroyers in the cruiser. And now the eisenhower, tom is speaking towards the Eastern Mediterranean with the associated chips with this. In this to that to uss also set forward attacking Fighter Aircraft responding since aircraft. This is all about ensuring that anyone who might be considering in the group or nation who might be considering going in and trying to help hamas, it continues to tell us the one where they have for them is dont, tom. Lets speak about hamas now in this impending Ground Invasion that could happen at any moment. Weve kept hearing about these tunnels, and then we have video to show our viewers about how hamas operates underneath gaza. They have an entire city sort of like the vietcong did during vietnam. We know that during the time people had to go in there essentially with a 45 and a flashlight, and try to fight that in the tunnels. Hows time change does that type of warfare the same except now in an urban environment . I dissimilar. There is no subs valence capabilities that will give the israelis, with support from other nations, a better picture of what might be underneath us tunnels. It is still an extremely murky picture. And then when you add to that the fact that there are hostages and civilians who may have been taken down into those tunnels and you may be spread out there those Massive Networks of tunnels, all underneath gaza, that only complicates the factor. In addition to that there is also the complicating factor of concern for years officials weve been speaking with that some of the hamas fires may have already try to flee through those tunnels and maybe even taken some of the hostages with them. Tom. All right, Courtney Kube with. Us courtney we appreciate. That will send it back to you in new york. Tom, thank you. There are on five or 600 american citizens still in gaza tonight. According to the state department. That includes the daughter of our next guests. Her name is emily russian burger. Her family is visiting gaza when the war update. Emily was born in the u. S. In her five children are u. S. Citizens to. Her husband is palestinian and a british citizen. John moshenberg wines us now. You and i both spoke on thursday and you were really worried. I know it has been hard to reach emily this weekend but in a wearable to talk with her this morning. How are they all doing . Theyre doing quite well under the circumstances. My daughter is quite forceful and focused. And steely eyed, if you will. My five grandkids are staying under control as a fulltime job. But im very optimistic. And theyve been through a rough border in the past, delivered to her husband when they told this did her husbands farm over the southeast corner. I think she knows what shes getting involved in. Its just, when will they open up the border . I know they were there to visit her husbands family. Is that they havent all of a farm, theyve been moving around a lot within gaza last few days. They told us that theyre now staying in the three bedroom apartment with 31 people in its. What are her biggest concerns as she waits to try to get out of gaza, potentially tomorrow . She had a block off for about 30 6 38 hours, we couldnt connect with her. Just talked with her for the first time Sunday Morning for about 20 minutes. Their biggest concern is an errant rocket. There is not Street Fighting going on in the southern end of gaza. They are very close to the border. And they are more concerned about again an errant rocket. It went one night without any rockets. I think that wouldve been friday night. But saturday, Our Last Night if you well, there are two rocket hits on a building within her area, she said. And of course they still filter concussion. So she knows they have to be somewhere. How big a safety concern at this point in time is an errant rocket. Which he did say, that were not having the fighting in the south they have here. I know that palestinian officials, as we have said, says that the Rafah Crossing, the only way out right now, it will open tomorrow morning. You told that them that your daughter was waiting for ten hours when she went, what else is she saying from that experience . Is she planning to go tomorrow . She will be there tomorrow, i promise. The first day that she set up was open from noon to five. They were in queue at seven a. M. Of course, over the course of the day, the Border Crossing didnt open. She said it was not necessarily chaotic, but it was crowded. People are kind and generous to each other. And fortunately, there were a lot of kids and there were canadians, they were french, other uk and foreign nationals connected with them and talking with them. It was quite warm, to say the least, as it is in gaza. Which he is worried about if they do not get it soon is the wave of refugees coming from the north which can just overwhelm the area. We are getting word, and as i talked with you earlier today, they will open up tomorrow. I think they said earlier, at nine. That foreign nationals, they are going to be the first ones out, god bless. As much as i want the americans and my daughter, and five grandkids there, they were happy that theyre letting the british, canadian, sprint, and germans. So many people found themselves in gaza through no fault of their own. Humanitarian workers visiting third and fourth generation families. We are keeping our fingers crossed, saying prayers, et cetera, et cetera. I know that as a grandpa, your daughters kept telling you not to worry. I guess theyre a little worried right now. She said that its not as bad as you think. Tell mom to relax. But that is hard. Listen, we will keep you in our thoughts, and we hope that she and the family will get it safely. John, thank you so much. Thank you very much. Back in a moment with a look at the stunning arsenal that hamas left behind after its attack on israel. The first, as we go to break, the voices of this war. Everyone i know has had people that they know identified as a muslim killed, taken hostage, or taken out of there. Raphael sanchez with the weapons of war that hamas will use and israel will be up against. Tonight, a first look at the deadly arsenal that Hamas Terrorists used this storm into israel. And the fire fight the lies ahead. How must fighters burst through the border defenses equipped not just to kill civilians, but also terrified of israeli tanks and helicopters. I hear, a terrorist fires a rocket propelled grenade. We saw dozens of the same weapons today at the Israeli Military base, where arms were recovered from hamas fighters are being analyzed. Rockets, minds, shoulder fired antiaircraft missiles, and magnetic bomb that sticks to the side of attained. We brought around 2000 terrorists in here with hundreds of vehicles. This is really major spoke with us about the condition that we not use his name. Does any of this indicate the direct involvements of iran. Not yet. Much of the munitions that you see here, its that production of hamas. Despite the strict bourbon blockade, this hamas video shows that is still makes weapons inside of gaza and factories like this. This is a thermobaric bomb, which creates heat instantly up to 3000 degrees celsius. Lee Israeli Military says they use this to answer entire families. For all of their weapons, hamas is still badly outgunned. It has no answer to israels overwhelming air power. On the ground in gaza, they will have a home field advantage. An elaborate network of tunnels designed to allow them to pop it out and ambush israeli troops. A looming battle that promises to be brutal. Israel has specialized sensors to detect the sensors underground. It uses Bunker Buster Bombs to take them out from the air. Some of these tunnels are 100 feet deep, and very difficult to destroy. There are americans, bound by commitment to community, country, and faith. Tonight, Megan Fitzgerald shows a few of their stories. [sound of artillery] as israel ramps up its offensive against hamas, calling up thousands of reservists to fight, scenes like this are playing out in airports across the u. S. [crowd chanting] people answering the call, people leaving the u. S. To fight for israel. An emotional moment at l. A. X. I just dropped my Little Brother off to go back to the army in israel. Im heartbroken and scared for him. Hes already back in israel. Today is the day. Documenting his trip on social media. I made my way up north, said goodbye to my grandpa and parents. Leaving his job and life in new york to go for the call. I booked my flight to israel before i got called back for what would happen. There is no way i was going to sit at home. Andrew superman visiting his family in chicago last weekend. He then heard what was happening in israel. He got a call from his first friend that had been killed. We spoke to him earlier this week. For the rest of the day, it became about me getting back to tel aviv. It did not matter to injury that he had not been called up. He was determined to go. It was important to me to come back as soon as possible to see what i could do. His plans to return to college in israel, now on hold. People are using this as an opportunity to come together and help each other. Reubens son leaving behind his oneyearold son and wife in texas. He called me to tell me. I decided im going to israel to rejoin the army. Quickly arriving in israel, and meeting up with his unit. Hes doing his duty. Im very proud of him. This sense of duty is at the heart of the israeli army, and its mandatory service. Technically its actually national service, not necessarily military service. The overwhelming majority go into israels military. Most israelis and to the military at 18 and served 2 to 3 years, typically after that they are put into the reserves, which can continue into the 40s and beyond. Ready to answer the call. If an israeli is Living In America and here is that her unit is called, she might decide to drop everything and join. Naturally, if youre living overseas, you are not required to come back. Certainly the idf appears very ready to take on everybody willing to come back. Then there are people like josh jacobson. And of the reserves, wanting to help. He left the u. S. Over the border, that ridge over there, and towards the israelis. And according to the idf, killed one civilian. This book ends a week of deadly fighting. Its been on a simmer all week long. With resources cut off and Gas Infrastructure flatten, its unlikely the most vulnerable there will be able to escape israels new offensive. Nbcs chief Foreign Correspondent Richard Invalids works from the israel gaza border. Palestinians note time is running it to escape northern gaza. And to that once israeli troops invade to fight hamas here, these streets will become death traps. So, they are heading south amid rumors there could be a safe zone there. But not everyone can pack up and go. The orphanage may house the most Vulnerable People in all of northern gaza. It is home for 22 children. 12 of them have special needs. The Israeli Military today said its its in carrying out the strike, and Accused Hamas of planting a bomb on the road to frighten civilians in northern gaza to stay so they could be human shields. The attack was not conducted by the idf. It appears hamas once again has sacrificed the people of gaza forts diabolical aims. The Israeli Military released an image of what it says is a hamas roadblock and many in gaza do not support hamas. But people appear to be rallying around the group, as israeli airstrikes kill the militants and civilians around them. Today, palestinian medical workers gather 100 bodies. Written on the bags is the word unknown. And identify the victims about to be buried in mass graves. The horrors of war in the middle east with its terrorism in Human Tragedies have come roaring back. I may soon get far worse the pace of people moving south today did increase. Has been actively working to make sure this conflict is not expand to other parts of the region. In an interview today with nbc s hamas representative in iran was asked about the possibility of whether hamas could get involved if israeli troops entered gaza. Heres what he said. I dont know about hezbollah but the Iranian Foreign minister United Nations speech have said we will not allow this thing to continue, the killing of the palestinians. And he warned the israelis on that if they do this incursion or landed vance minutes of the forces, that will not be good news for them. He also warned that other countries supported by iran carefully watching events and ready to react based on what happens. I will send it back to you in new york for, now kate. A senior u. S. Official confirms that israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has invited President Biden to travel to israel, on that the white house is considering that request. Joining us now is gabe gutierrez, senior white house correspondent. Gabe, what is the latest on getting americans out of the war zone . , kate the first of the biden ministrations Charter Flights to get americans out of israel has landed an offense and a ship is expected to depart from an Israeli Port To Cypress tomorrow. The white house isnt hourbyhour discussions with these counterparts to try to secure the safe release of u. S. Hostages in gaza. In an interview just aired on cbs 60 minutes, biden was asked about how to prevent casualties there. Are you asking israel to establish a humanitarian corridor in that area or get humanitarian supplies . Our team is talking about that and whether there can be a safes own were also talking to the egyptians whether there is an outlet to get to these children and women out into out of that area at this moment. But it is hard. You would like to see a humanitarian corridor that allows the 2 million causes out of the area. Yes. You would like to see humanitarian supplies brought into gaza . Yes. So you do not agree with the israeli total siege of the gaza strip . I am confident that israel is going to act on the rules of war. The president says an Israeli Occupation of gaza would be a big mistake. He also reiterated that so far, theres no clear weapons on the mass attack. The administration has called iran broadly complicit to informing hamas for years. The u. S. Has now sent to Carrier Strike groups to the region, i have a lot and other enemies of israel. Right now theyre downplaying the possibility of any american boots on the ground. Continue for c u. S. Troops in the combat in this new middle east war . I dont think thats necessary. Israel has one of the finest fighting forces. I guarantee were gonna provide them everything they need. Secretary of state Antony Blinken is expected back in israel tomorrow. As you, mentioned. Kate according to a u. S. Official the white house is now considering whether the president himself might go at some point, after an invitation from Prime Minister netanyahu. Gabe terrace of the white house. Lets go back to tom giannis in tel aviv. Tom. Kate, thank you. At this hour the aussie Department Says 13 americans are still missing. And we know at least some of them have been taken hostage by hamas. Pressure is going on the American Government to rescue any americans being held by hamas, and evacuate those that are still trapped in israel. Join us live right now in this hour, for more on how the u. S. May be able to get americans in harms way back home. I want to bring in p. J. Crowley, former assistant secretary for Public Affairs at the state department, during the obama administration. , pichai thank you so much for being here tonight. I want to start with, ive spoken to these. Families they are israeli american, theyve lost their loved ones. They are somewhere in gaza, likely underground. Possibly being tortured right now. Is there any chance at all that american troops will help rescue those americans . Tom, thats always an option i think that these states will pursue diplomacy first. We dont have relationships with hamas but other countries have channels of communication with them and i am sure that countries like qatar, egypt and others are communicating with hamas to try to determine where and who they have, what their terms might be. At the same time we are directing intelligence assets trying to figure out who holds americans and other citizens and where are they we obviously have to know that kind of information and try to figure out if any military option is indefeasible. Petry is there any leverage here . I was speaking with a spokesperson for the idf earlier in the last hour and he told me there is no negotiations with hamas. My question to you as what type of leverage does the International Community have . Does hamas care about money . Do they care about Prisoner Swaps . Ours is simply going to be a Rescue Mission . Sadly, hostages have value while they are alive and obviously for a group like hamas the question is, what do they want . And we may well be that they are using hostages to try to put boundaries around to the upcoming Israeli Military operation. They might look at how to trade hostages for certain kinds of humanitarian assistance. Things i think we can and will be doing anyway but hamas may not be the only Group Holding hostages so this is very difficult to explain or try to figure out. Where they are, who holds, them and what the terms of the deal might be. P. J. , how much does the rafah Border Crossing concerning right now . Its going to reopen, its the only place that some palestinians will be able to escape out of gaza, namely Palestinian Americans. I ask you about the concern because it is the only way out. Its the only fray to come in. Remember when the ukraine war broke out i was on the polish border. Ill never forget what i saw. There, man women and children, trying to push through the border gates to get to safety. This was days after the war. There were various Border Crossings in ukraine. Here there is only one right now. What is going to happen in a few hours . I think in the short term there is going to be chaos. The complexity here is, in most crises there is an American Embassy there to try to organize some sort of orderly evacuation. We dont have any boots on the ground on the gaza side of the fence. Obviously Secretary Blinken has been in the region, here is a good conversation with the egyptians today and hell have a conversation with the israelis tomorrow. And they are trying to establish this humanitarian corridor which can be a mechanism to get aid into gaza and people out of gaza. But its going to take some time for that to operate the way that you want tickets to. So i do think will of assets on the egyptian side, which can be helpful here. The dilemma is the people have to get from where they are in gaza to that Rafah Crossing to be able to be in a position to be rescued. We will know soon. P. J. Crowley first. P. J. , we appreciate all your analysis. Ever seen american sort of danger in the region, supporting israel our priorities for the Biden Administration. Four highranking senators on both sides of the. Ill i want to continue my conversation from tel aviv today with senators Chuck Schumer and mitt romney, about israels battle against hamas. Senator schumer, when you get off that plane was the first thing you want to tell israels leaders . I wanted to tell the leaders, we have your back during these awful times. With one of the worst Terrorist Instances that weve ever seen. We wanted the israeli people to know the american stand with them. We understand their pain. We understand there needs to make sure they eliminate the threat from hamas once and for all. So you can make sure that hamas never came and rear its ugly head again. And of the hostages are free. What is your understanding of how the u. S. Can help in any way to free this american hostages . We are working very hard through many different channels. It wouldnt be appropriate to go into them. Here to put pressure on hamas to release the hostages. Youve seen the photos of a Terrorist Attack that happened here a week ago. What did you think . My stomach is wrenched. To see the viciousness, they brutality, of hamas was just devastating. One other thing. We experience what life is like even here in tel aviv, about 20 of us including all six senators had to be heard into a shelter. Because there were missile talks this afternoon, thank god theres them hit. Have you seen images out of gaza and what was your message to israel on somehow defending itself, Illuminating Hamas and trying to save as many lives as they can . Civilian lives . The messages is a difficult task, but well give you whatever you need to achieve. It we met with a defense minister. There was a long list of things they need. As leader of the senate, im going to really package on the senate floor asap to get israel what it needs. And we will have five partisan support. Arriving in the country and immediately have to go to a shelter . In the Subtlety Alarms went off and so take shelter, and we all rushed into a room which is secure and took shelter. What are your thoughts . You saw the images of what happened in israel . The attack more than a week ago . When you think you saw that . Were talking about babies being kidnapped . It is a level of depravity you havent seen from humanity since the middle ages. It is the nature of whats happening in this group, hamas. And tara groups like them. What was your message to the israeli . Leaders what you want to tell them . We want to tell them that we were with them. They expressed concern about civilian lives and gaza . And where the israeli second to that . The israelis came out this pretty aggressively and said we cannot do revenge, by this really hamas it is killing both jews and palestinians because hamas is using their civilians as human shields. And preventing them from going to safe places. Hamas is really a perpetrator of horror of both sides. You will meet with the families of these peoples who have lost Family Members, Family Members and hostages. You are a man of faith, just a different. Faith when youre going to tell them . Well do everything we can to help return a lot. Once everything humanly possible. Do you think there is hope to Rescue American hostages . Of course there, is thats why they were. Grab tomas wants to see if they cant get something. Hopefully they still have the capacity to free those people. I understand the people of qatar are doing their very best to facilitate that process. My conversations with senators mitt romney and Chuck Schumer from earlier today. When we come back, where will the palestinians go with orders to leave gaza . Finding an escape route is nearly impossible. Well take a closer look, Plus The Voices Of War from both sides. I am sorry for the but they must understand theyre being terrorized by hamas. Welcome back to our Special Report on the war between israel and hamas. I am kate snow in the new york. Tonight, many palestinians are facing an unthinkable decision. Leave their homes behind, not sure where theyll and. Up or risk their lives because by staying where they are. Joining us now is bobby, gauche Bloomberg Opinion columnist covering foreign affairs. Nice to have you with, us thank you. I want to ask first about what we have been talking about all night. The rafah gate in Southern Gaza is the only way out. Hours from, now about five hours from now, it might open for people to top foreign passports only. What is that going to look like . How do people even get there . If you remember the exodus from afghanistan last year when thousands and thousands of afghans who are trying to get out of one airport, we all remember the scenes of pandemonium. I fear something similar will happen. We are saying only people with foreign passports can come through there. But how you keep others away from approaching that same gates . How do you keep women and children who are desperate to get out . How do you keep them . You cant fire on people, how do you to help control in the middle of a pandemic . If you look at the whole of the gaza strip, they are telling people from the north all to come down to that one spot, raffa. Its not just that there are two roads. It is a war zone. The bombs going off, they have to worry about not only death from the skies but also from the ground. They have to worry about hamas preventing him from moving forward. Hamas needs human shields. That has been a part of their operational procedure forever and ever. They will not be happy to just let people leave, no matter what they say. People are running through two different kinds of threats from the ground in from the air. So lets say hypothetically a whole bunch of Palestinian Civilians to make their way to rafah. And can get out. Does egypt wrong to them there . Where do they ultimately end up . Thats a very difficult question to answer. First of all of her palestinians are going to want to leave. Because they are afraid if they do leave they will never be allowed back. Its their home, the dissent, many of these people, are descended from refugees back to their old villages. That remains in the memory. They dont necessarily want to leave. Those who do want to leave, egypt is the closest place. Egypt does not historically wanted to do that. The people here represent a security danger. Would have hamas soldiers come in with them . They also say, egypt, says they cant afford it. And if you bring the palestinians out it lets israel off the hook. They do not have to solve this problem if the palestinians just leave. But is also generally the view of the golf era of states. Saudi arabia and qatar and and god knows they have got space, but they too dont want the palestinian refugees. Officially line there is the same thing. Once the palestinians are, out israelis would not want them back in. Then there is no direct routes to jordan because of the israeli siege. Jordan is already a small country, they already have nearly 1 million refugees from other places, mainly syria. They are already at the sort of limit of their capacity. Remember about 60 of the population of jordan are people of palestinian or should already. So not a lot more space for people. What about if they were to get up and gets to egypt, could they fly somewhere else . What about the u. S. Or the European Union taking in palestinians . The European Union and to some degree the u. S. Has expressed sympathy for these people. The question is do we put our money where our mouth is . Do allow them into our homes and our home learns the way europeans dudes with ukrainians . There does not seem to be any appetite for that. There is, i get in the official excuses are we have too many refugees right now. We cant deal with more. There is again the risk that if you will allow these refugees, what have some hamas people come in and make trouble in our lands. The tragedy for the Palestinian People here is that the people of gaza, is that the kids leave and if they could leave nobody wants them. There is nowhere for them to go. Thank you for doing that explainer for us for helping us understand. Well be back in a moment with the life and death decisions in the war. Every inch of the hospital, she says, is now a trauma center. The wounded laid out on the floor. Children bearing the brunt of an escalating war. As the casualties of a relentless Bombing Campaign keep pouring in. It makes for a surreal split screen. Doctors on both sides, lies in their hands. But the future not. We wanted to evacuate the hospital but all our patients because we have to be prepared for another wave of victims. Most of the hospitals patients now and floors underground, for safety. Coming in this direction. Yeah, you can see the same, this has come from this direction. So there will be an alarm now, we have to run because of a sales could hit these windows, that has happened at the other hospitals. The scene at this hospital in israel is a far cry from the one in the gaza. Two hospitals, one war. Bound by the same duty. We are working out that gaza is in that direction. We want to make everyone better struck that is lester holt reporting time, and well be right back with a no one engelbert Terror Threats in the u. S. As we listen into the voice from the front lines. The head of the fbi has a new warning tonight about an increase in threats across the u. S. It comes as the divisions at the heart of war are fueling global tensions. As jesse carsh reports, there is also been a new wave of antisemitism. Far from the frontlines in the middle east, tonight america 30s run alert. There is no question we are seeing an increase in reported threats and we have got to be on the lookout. Especially the lone actors who may take inspiration from recent events to commit violence of their own. The fbi warning comes as people are demonstrating solidarity with israelis and palestinians worldwide. Groups to resist youd have a solid saying austin, texas today. Hundreds gathered at the Texas State Capital today rallying in support of israel. Right afterwards, and larger crowd gathered for a pro palestinian rally, just two of many happening across the country. Over the past week weve heard calls for peace. But weve also heard chants like this. Right side of australias sydney opera house, in a pro palestinian crowd monday, some called for genocidal tactics the knots is used as they murdered 6 million jews. In berlin, germany according to combat antisemitism, some jewish homes were marked with Stars Of David this weekend. And in california on wednesday, someone waved a Novelty Swastika flag. I have been hearing a ton of not just israelis are bad but jews are bad. And that is really scary. Hamass attack is one of the deadliest attacks on jews since the holocaust. In the weeks since the Anti Defamation League reported instances of antisemitic has spiked year every year. We know the jewish individuals and institutions regularly are targeted victimized by people who collectively blame the jews, if you will, for what is happening in the middle east. Among the adls concern some demonstrators are Denouncing Zionism which is defined by the adls the movement for the south to Self Determination and statehood of the jewish people in their ancestral homeland. It is a prelude to. Genocide a conditions people to see jesus objects, to see jews a sub humans. We are in support of our jewish brothers and. Sisters but we cannot accept a state like the state of israel that has a religious and ethnic apartheid. Some rhetoric has explicitly justified antisemitism, just like racism, is there. What we have done in this country is allowed voices that used to be quiet to speak. This was his passport. Thats what happens when hate speech could slather. He says both his parents were jews who escaped not see germany. We have to stand up and we have to say, this is not a place for hate. Warnings for history still relevant today. Jesse, kershaw nbc news. For more on the Security Situation i want to bring in tom winter. Tom, you heard the fbi director statement in this piece about the real threats. How real are these threats . What are they looking at . Thats exactly what the Law Enforcement in joint Terrorism Task force are focused. Our number one, is this individual capable of doing the types of things that they might be talking about are mine. Talking to friends about how credible is this individual, they may go and visit. Theres gonna be a lot more Law Enforcement investigative steps to address this point. As the threats wise. Anybody who has had a whiff on the of the agent over the past several days knows the rhetoric is so strong on this issue. So theyre definitely focused on this and trying to determine whether bunny at these people have tip trip to the wire need to be arrested. I want to talk about something that we learned about tonight. A gruesome example of the kind of violence we are talking about. Police sent a sixyearold boy and his mother, muslim americans, were stabbed multiple times by their landlords. And the boy died. What do we know . The reason we are talking about, this kate, is authorities allege that this man, their target charging him with murder in the first three, he says his reason for attacking these two individuals was because they were muslim and because of the ongoing hostilities and tensions in the middle east, the conflict with hamas and israel. He stabbed the, mother whos expected to survive. Shes 32 years. All police say he stabbed the sixyearold 26 times. And unfortunately, that child is now dead. So. Sad im sure well be hearing more about. That i want to go back to that Staggering Number in the piece about from the Anti Defamation League saying when you compare right now to a year ago, antisemitic incidents talking to a lot of horsemen agencies, what are they gonna do about . That . If hamas in the attack israel this was a huge concern. The enoki Hate Crime Dashboard is the number one hate crime in new york city and antisemitic hate crimes. Talking about everything from Painting Swastikas on sidewalks and buildings and subway stops, two Felony Assaults in various serious crimes. A deadly attack in the pittsburgh area synagogue not too long ago. When you look at the past couple of years through Covid The Changes in crime is this is something they definitely held up. Certainly the Jewish Community is being threatened in crimes are being committed. Just for the sheriff fact of this case. This effectively has Law Enforcement. Youre seeing us and both sides, hate. I am kate snow in new york with just the last few hours a Flight Air Laden her for the tampa, florida with hundreds of u. S. Nationals on board who evacuated israel. Lets get now to nbc news Correspondent Melissa who is in miami. His flight landed in tampa, what do we know about it . We just learned new details on the ground here. We know that this plane landed in tampa just about two hours ago. We want to keep a video of it. Crews started 270 americans starting. Just two hours ago, thats playmaking elsewhere across the tarmac. Theyre in the state among those 270 passengers, low majority of the floridians by the way, 91 children including some babies and even some dogs, we understand there was a lot of hesitation. You can understand why. They were nervous about becoming targets in the air. You could see we made it safely. We did our job to blur the faces of the children making their way down. This is been such a traumatic week for so many. You can just imagine the excitement. A groups talked about how people are turning their way down onto the tarmac. Giving some individualized treatment after everything theyve been through. You can understand why there has been so much effort taken to make sure that they are being graded individually by customs. They are not having to go through the typical lines you have to go through. Theyre being raided by the. Governor we know is governor Ron Desantiss office that may the Executive Order to make this happen. We dont know exactly what the timeline looks like, kate, in terms of being with their families. We know that at this moment theyre currently inside of tents. And we do, now i can tell you, its probably some very eager Family Members eager to reunite that, case. Finally, a lesson that the home of the xfinity 10g network. War here is not the first and likely wont be the last. Deadly clashes here this time have left little room for hope of peace between israelis and palestinians. Our Veteran Correspondent in nbc tel aviv chief reflects something conflicts he has covered and why this one seems so different. I thought terrorism didnt come worth the risk. Palestinian Suicide Bombers almost 100 of them, in 19 years. In the streets of israel, 838 israelis killed by the suicide bombs. Many more. When did i saw most of them, shocking or random murder. And, then this. In one day, one day, more israelis killed than all those bombs put together. The worst day in israels history. And the hostages. Nothing on this scale has even been considered before. Everything about this assault against israeli civilians is unique. Its size and its execution. A new height of hatred here. There is nothing new about the struggle. In 2002, the israeli. Why, she, cries why, as she buries her husband. In 2006, the palestinian. We hear in our, country palestine has ours. Not theirs. 2000 and, 12 israel telephones a warning. Theyre about to drop a bomb on the gaza. Israeli has called a warning roof knocking. Two palestinians, it is a phone call from hell. Every few years, more of the same. Until today, when he gets even worse. What were local conflicts now threatened regional war. That has been the story of israels existence, more and survival in the Palestinian Civilians the same. But that isnt the whole story. Little moments show a different picture. Like these former israeli and palestinian fighters, joining to bring palestinian children to the beach for the first time. Amazing, fantastic, yeah. Susan arabs training together. Even learning to play the violin together. Moments of hope. In an era of misery and grief, what is done is done and cannot be undone. The dead are gone. But is there a different way . Yes, there is. Or with egypt turns to piece. Jordan, too. Say for more arab nations, the attention turned to trade. There is no love lost, but theres no lives lost either. Only hamas and its allies remain sworn to israels destruction. Terror and atrocities other weapons. Yet now, they reap what they so. More misery, pants trial. For both sides. And, now yet again, the uncertain wait for time. Martin fletcher for nbc news. And martin is so right. So much of this is so new and so evil. Weve been there for a few days and spoke to the families that suffered the Terrorist Attack. Theyre still waiting and still have hope for the love roads are still alive and we still dont know whats going to happen hour by hour its waiting to see what happens next.
