Our Family Members will have to wait harrell, im so sorry to have to cut you off. Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. We will be praying for you. We wish you and your family the best and certainly we wish for the safe return of your niece. Thank you so much. That does it for me everybody. Im yasmin vossoughian. Nicole wallace picks up our coverage. Coverage hi there, everyone. Its 4 00 in the east. It is 11 00 in the evening in israel and in gaza. And we start with Breaking News. We just learned that the Border Crossing between gaza and egypt will open tomorrow morning. It will be two a m eastern, 9 am local time, to allow u. S. Citizens to leave gaza. That is according to a palestinian official. More than 4000 people are dead and thousandmo are wounded as the israel hamas or enters its second week. That includes more than 1400 people in israel and more than 2600 people in gaza. Gazas Ministry Of Health says that over half of those deaths are women and children. These really Defense Forces or idf is expected to launch an extensive Ground Operation in the gaza strip at anytime the coming days. The mission is to destroy the Hamas Terrorist Group leadership and to secure the 150 hostages kidnapped in last weeks brutal Terrorist Attack. With a full might of israels military looming along the border, 1. 1 million civilians in Northern Gaza are navigating Rocket Strikes as they scramble for safety. They are heeding israels order to evacuate to the south or hunting for shelter that can withstand whatever is to come. U. S. Officials have affirmed israels right to defend herself, while emphasizing the light of gaza civilians, and working to stop the war from spreading throughout the region. Here is what Secretary Of State Anthony Blinken told reporters earlier today, as he continues a six country tour aimed at addressing tensions in the middle east. There are two very Different Things for the future and what the middle east can and should be. Theres a vision that we very strongly espouse, that has countries in the region normalizing their relations, integrating, working together in common purpose. There is another vision that hamas has demonstrated in the most horrific way. And that is a vision of death, of destruction, nihilism, and terrorism. The war is threatening to expand. In an interview with al jazeera earlier today, the Iranian Foreign minister warned of this quote, if stopping the aggression against gaza does not succeed, the expansion of the war fronts is not excluded and its possibility greases every hour. They continued aggression and the absence of a political solution add fuel to the fire and things may get out of control. Unquote. All this as tensions continue in israels, along as was northern border with lebanon where the idf has been exchanging fire with hezbollah since the hours after the october 7th Terrorist Attack. Idf officials said yesterday that they struck a hezbollah target following the, quote, infiltration of unidentified aerial objects into israel. A Senior Fellow at the middle east institutes tells cnbc this, quote, hamass but the week underling of hezbollah, a much more Formidable Fighting force, widely recognized as the most powerful nonstick military in the world. This will be a gamechanger, not only for israel, but also for the entire region. Developments in the coming days and weeks will change the middle east forever. Thousands of lives and millions of futures are hanging in the balance, as the world searches for a solution that doesnt appear to be inside just yet. Nbc news Foreign Correspondent raf sanchez is in ashdod, israel. Raf, this weekend has been marked by a feeling of, really, dread and waiting. And i wonder if you could just kind of broaden the lens and take me through the last 24 hours of what youve seen. Yeah, nicole. Well, lets just start with that news about the Rafah Crossing. A palestinian official tells nbc news, starting at 9 am tomorrow, the crossing from Gaza Into Egypt will be open for foreign nationals, including those roughly 600 or so americans who are still trapped inside of gaza. The announcement coming a couple of hours after Secretary Of State Antony Blinken met with the egyptian president , and the idea is that as foreign nationals are coming out of gaza, and humanitarian aid will be going from egypt into gaza. Now, those americans and others would then, according to this official, will be taken to a nearby airport in the sinai and then flown on to cairo, and hopefully home, and on to safety. We should say, nicole, this is an incredibly fluid situation. We have been here before, where there has been top of the Rafah Crossing opening. And it hasnt opened, a combination of things going on. There is Israeli Military activity, or there was Israeli Military activity near the crossing earlier in the week. This is also just an absolutely feverishly complicated 3d jigsaw involving egyptians, hamas, israel, and a whole host of players across the region. But assuming the causing thats open, its very good news for the 600 or so americans. It doesnt do a whole lot for the 2 million Palestinian Civilians still trapped inside the gaza strip. Israel says 600,000 people have now left the northern half of the strip, heading to the south. Israel also says it has agreed, following a conversation between President Biden and Prime Minister netanyahu, to Restore Water Supply to Southern Gaza. The idea here is to try to do everything they can to incentivize people to leave the northern half of this trip, to head south, before this all out offensive begins. The United Nations is saying water or no water, humanitarian corridor or no humanitarian corridor, you simply cannot ask 1 Million People to leave their homes on such short notice with nowhere to go, without triggering a major humanitarian disaster. Nicole, here in southern israel, all indications, this Israeli Ground offensive is getting closer. The Israeli Defense minister was in this region earlier. He was meeting with israeli troops on the border. And it looked for all the world, like a senior official who wanted to look into the eyes of the soldiers hes about to send into battle. We continue to see these long columns of israeli tanks, of israeli jeeps, israeli artillery moving into position on the gaza border. And just finally, as you said, for all the focus on gaza, there is a lot of concern about what is happening in the north on the israel lebanese border, where we are seeing israel and the powerful Lebanese Militant Group hezbollah exchanging fire now with increasing frequency. And one of the real concerns, not just for israel, but also for u. S. Officials is that hezbollah, this Iranian Proxy Group, may become involved in this conflict. And we could end up seeing a twofront regional war as a result of this major Terrorist Attack coming out of gaza. Nicole . Raf, it strikes me that it is just really one week since the totality of the brutal massacre of more jews in one day since the holocaust has settled in and that country. And we talked about the radius of trauma earlier in the week. I wonder if the nation feels like its shifting its focus, or if its trying to do both, the business of grieving, and the business of defending itself . I think the sense of shock now is being channeled in lots of different directions, nicole. We are starting to see a lot of frustration, a lot of anger from the families of some of these hostages, who feel that they are not getting enough information, that they feel the government is not doing enough. We saw a largescale protest outside of the Israeli Defense ministry, people chanting in both english and hebrew, bring them home, bring them home. There is one father, nicole, his wife and three of his children are being held hostage inside gaza. He is kept at the gates of the defense ministry. And he says he will not leave until he gets a commitment that is families coming home. We should say, nicole, for policymakers, there are no good answers to give these families, right . Their loved ones are being held hostage, presumably, in tunnels underneath gaza. There are no easy options. It is not clear that theres any real channel of negotiation. It is not clear that there is any real prospect of a rescue mission. And through all of this, you have this Israeli Ground offensive looming. And many, many israelis are strongly supporting this Ground Offensive. They feel that there is no universe in which hamas can be allowed to remain in power in gaza after the atrocities theyve committed. But it carries high risk for the hostages, either that they would be murdered by their captors, or that they might be killed by accident by israeli strikes. So, you know, for the hostages, they are going in one direction. There is something of a new normal settling here in the south, which i feel people are becoming numb to almost, to just the visuals of so many troops on every street, on every corner. But, yeah, a lot of different parts of the society going in different directions. Nicole . Raf, is there any sense of the timing of the next phase of the war, it likely Ground Incursion is tied to any specific efforts to either locate or rescue hostages . It seems like the israelis really want to reduce as much as they can the number of Palestinian Civilians in Northern Gaza. We can tell from their briefings that they are giving us, that they are keeping very, very close track from the air, trying to estimate how many people they think have left gaza city and gone south. They announced with a certain note of pride earlier that they think 600,000 people have left out of the roughly 1 Million People who live in the Northern Gaza strip. So, thats more than half of the total population that they are trying to move. That seems to be one of the key dynamics. We expect for the hostages, they are spread all over gaza. You remember, nicole, one of the National Stories that people in this country tell themselves, not just the 1967 war, but the 1976 Israeli Commando raid that freed the hostages being held in uganda, the rate where Benjamin Netanyahus Older Brother was killed, but the hostages were freed, they were brought home. It was a triumphant moment for the nation of israel. There is really no sense of optimism that Something Like that, that there is going to be a happy ending here for all of the hostages. Hopefully for some of them. But our expectation is that they are spread all throughout gaza. And there is no single soup that might be able to bring them home. Nicole . Just unbelievable. Nbcs raf sanchez, thank you once again for your extraordinary reporting from there. Its wonderful to see you. Please stay safe. Were gonna switch gears likely, slightly. Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer let a congressional delegation to tel aviv. And during that visit, the delegation was rushed to shelter for safety, from hamas fired rockets. Heres what senator senator schumer had to say earlier today about meeting with the families of israeli hostages. We worked as they told their stories. There was such a beautiful brave people. And every second seems like a day as they are wondering what has happened to their child, to their parent, to their brother, to their sister . And we told them we would do everything we could, including speaking to the president next week, who had talked to these parents as well. But were gonna talk to them next week about the u. S. Doing everything it can. Meanwhile, the israeli Defense Forces have tonight responsibility for the deaths of 70 gaza residents who were killed while trying to evacuate to the south. Joining us now to discuss all of the days, developments, former israeli ambassador to the United States, michael warren. Its nice to see you again. Im sorry the news continues to, in some ways, become more dire and more tragic. I wonder if you can just first tell me your understanding of the sort of state of readiness and when, it sounds like it is when not if, the next phase of the or begins. Good evening, nicole. I have to agree with ralph sanchez. It was a good report, when he says there are no good options. And there are no good options. Israel has to respond to hamas. Israel has to do its upmost to uproot and Annihilate Hamas so ever again threatens our Civilian Population. Thats clear. That is close to 100 percent israelis understand that. And in terms of the danger to our own soldiers going in there. However, in order to conduct that battle against an enemy which has brutally, hundreds of yards, more than yards, hundreds of miles of tunnels and bunkers under gaza, you cannot fight that battle in alleys that are heavily mined, barbwire, strip wired, without clearing up the Civilian Population. Or else many, many thousands of civilians will die. You have to have a move, you have to move. Its a lengthy process. It is a painful process. Nobody wants to see this process, but there is actually no other choice. The other issue is the hostages. Yes, we need those hostages. Israel is talking now more than 150 hostages of our nationals in the hands of hamas. But we have no choice but to strike and hope that we can locate the hostages, because thats the big issue here, locating them. And once we locate them, we can use our Special Forces to try and rescue them. No great option here. By the way, hamas doesnt want to negotiate. Hamas doesnt want to negotiate about this they have used hostages as human shields. In fact, after the human shield of their populations, their population, they moved south. They dont have that human shield anymore. No good options. Same thing at the north right there. Whats happening up there . Hassan nasrallah, the head of hezbollah, is finding it very, very hard to sit there, sipping tea in beirut, while sunni terrorists are fighting israelis in the south. His own shia tears are not doing anything. So there is a matter of legitimacy at stake here. So what is he doing . He is firing several dozen Mortar Shells across the border, but he has so far not on least his arsenal of 150,000 rockets, thats about at least ten times as many rockets as hamas has. Many of those rockets are very accurate, and it will be hardpressed to think our essential facilities, from the airports, oil refineries. And he has not unleashed that yet because he understands that meaningful war, and thats a full two front war for israel. The question is how much a question, how many provocations can israel absorb on that Northern Front without it responding more forcefully . Now, we are responding, firing back. And the situation, chaotic all around. And im not talking whats happening in june, jerusalem, west bank, hamas is responding. And the possibility of domestic terrorism as well that weve seen that in the past. All told, a very complex dynamic and combustible situation, in addition to the human tragedy. Yeah, i mean, i was gonna get back at that. I mean, these stories that sort of startle you in the middle of the night, the moms that have come on, the daughters, the suns kidnapped in this Music Festival, while wearing flipflops on a holiday morning at their base, i mean, how do you weave through the most strategic and humane way forward to defend your country, something u. S. Ecuador of state Anthony Blinken, u. S. President joe biden, u. S. Secretary of defense lloyd austin, everyone has said its not just your right but your obligation. While this historic tragedy has taken place just one week ago. We have we have not packed that week. We are still very much in last saturday, excuse me, can you hear me, nicole yes, i hear you. We are still very much embedded in a week ago last saturday. We havent moved on. Yeah we havent moved on because the stories keep coming out. And ill tell you, honestly, ive looking at the media during the day. And its that recordings of the people at that rock concert moments before being killed, seeing their Friends Being Machine gunned in front of them, and knowing that they are next. It is haunting beyond usual. It is listening to a health worker, who was the first on the scene, those few kibbutzes that were slaughtered, and saying, ive been doing this for 20 years. Ive seen Masters Attacks in jerusalem. There was nothing in my life that prepared me to see what i saw there. Short of cannibalism, the terrorists did things to this body, the bodies there that no human being could have imagined. I mean, we are hearing since saturday, it hasnt ended for us. I just found out about an hour ago that one of my best friends, daughters best friend, was taken captive. And her entire family was killed. Im so sorry. I think from here, obviously, we try to cover the developments. But i just, at a human level, as a mom, i cannot imagine what everyone is going through, the fear and anxiety. We appreciate you taking some time to talk to us today. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, have a good night. Thank you. So, we are just beginning two hours of special coverage of the Israel Hamas War. Coming up next for us, National Security adviser Jake Sullivan said that the u. S. Is urging all sides to follow and adhere to the laws of war, and to protect civilians. How likely is it that that will happen . We will have to experts here to talk about that. And when israel could launch its highly anticipated next phase of the offensive . And later in the broadcast, a desperate search for thousands of people still missing, now more than a week since the attack by hamas. I will be joined by a man whose cousin is one of them. Hamas and its capabilities, to make sure that this war ends, which was forced upon us. We did not choose this war. But when it ends, hamas wont have the ability to threaten or kill israeli civilianize ever again. Thats a spokesman for the Israeli Defense force, reviewing a little bit of the strategy for the Ground Offensive that is largely expected, in an interview yesterday, the imminent action aims to, as he said, wipe out hamas as a Terrorist Group and in mility and governing organization as well. Three sources have told the New York Times that the Israeli Forces could begin moving into gaza soon. Nbc news correspondents have been told that the idf is ready to go whenever and order is given. Overnight, tanks were moved into place at the israel gaza border. And jets could be heard overhead. Meanwhile, the town of sderot has been evacuated. To msnbc analysts, who we turn to an allmatter of things, and were lucky to turn to on this tragic situations, joining us right now, former director of the cia, john brennan is here. And retired colonel jack jacobs joins us as well. I want to share with both of you, because you both worked in the government, the highest levels, what Secretary Of State Anthony Blinken had just said in an interview. He said, quote, today, water was turned back on for gaza, reengage with israel to make that happen. We are now focused to make sure that you are tearing assistance can get in, let people can get out of harms way within gaza. And also some of our own citizens who wish to leave can get out. But this has been very much a part, not only of our conversations, but all the actions that we are taking. Israel is not blocking the departure for nationals. The problem has been hamas, which has disrupted that. And of course, we have to make the necessary arrangements. Blinken saying, egypt is fully prepared to facilitate the departure of more citizens and other foreign nationals, and at the same time, egypt is fully prepared to get a substance in. We are putting in place a system working with the United Nations, with egypt, with other countries to make sure that the assistance can get into gaza, to the people who need it. Both of you know better, that just not happens. And i wonder first, to you, director brennan, how you would sort of assess the partnership so far between the u. S. National security team, the Secretary Of State, the defense secretary, and the president , and our partners in the region in israel . Well, i think that communication is constant. And as jake has said, and as President Biden has said, we are really emphasizing the importance of making sure that Everything Possible is done to prevent the loss of innocent life. And that involves distinguishing between the Hamas Terrorists and the Civilian Population in gaza. And unfortunately, the urban environment in gaza is such that it makes any type of Military Operation by israel exceptionally difficult. But the measures that are being taken now, turning on some of the water, allowing palestinians reportedly to go out of the Rafah Crossing, along with those four nationality, moving the population from the north of gaza to the south, trying to clear that area out, i think its part of these rules of war which is, again, to try to make sure that you are distinguishing between combatants and civilians. And also, you are showing humanity as far as trying to make sure that you do, again, Everything Possible to limit the loss of life among the innocent population. Colonel jacobs, do you think that some of the delay in beginning any sort of Ground Offensive is to make sure that as many as innocent civilians are able to get out of harms way . Its a massive number of human beings to have to evacuate from the north to the south. But what is your sense on the timing of events in the region . Well, there are two independent variables that come to mind. One is that, you cant just say, everybody, leave, and then everybody leaves. So, the israelis want to give as much time as possible for the gazans to move as many people as possible down south of bloody gaza. And that has taken and will continue to take some time. The second thing to keep in mind is that once the offensive begins, it is one thing to be able to distinguish between noncombatants and hamas. Its another thing, again, to be able to rescue gazan civilians, take them out of the area, and move them to someplace safe. So, when a unit goes into gaza and begins engaging with hamas, it is undoubtedly gonna find civilians, noncombatants. Its gonna have to separate them from the fight. And then, a separate unit is gonna have to bring them back to a safe area in the rear, where they will get medical attention, food, shelter, water, and so on. In order for this to happen, it has taken the Israel Defense force some time to establish Collection Aries in the rear to which gazan civilians, noncombatants, can be taken. Those two things have resulted in what appears to be a delay in the conduct of the offensive on the ground, nicole. Director brennan, it feels like the radius of tensions is only expanding. And it feels like hezbollah is doing more than saberrattling. They are clearly engaged, launching rockets into israel. Irans rhetoric is extremely aggressive. And i wonder what your assessment is of some of the natural allies of hamas at this hour . Well, nicole, i think at the near term future, its very unknown, in terms of how this conflict right now in gaza is going to expand. As you point out, hezbollah is going to find some pressure on it, if in fact this Military Incursion by israel goes into gaza and results in large numbers of palestinian deaths. And what i think israel has to do is to anticipate that there could be this broadening of the war. And whether or not hamas has also planned to have some Terrorist Attacks coincide with the israeli land invasion. So, i do think what israel is doing now, in addition to all the things that jackie mentioned, as far as trying to make sure they have the plans about how theyre going to go into gaza, rescue the hostages, separate this Civilian Population from the militants. But also, to anticipate that when that invasion takes place, when that incursion takes place, it could be a wider war. And they dont want to be caught ill prepared as they were widows Terrorist Attacks by hamas. So, again, i think what netanyahu and his cabinet are doing right now, im so glad that theyre part of that, let theyre trying to make sure that they can respond quickly to any other type of development. There is going to put Israeli Security at great risk. Jack, what is the role of the u. S. . I mean, our Secretary Of Defense was in israel on friday, Standing Shoulder to shoulder with his counterpart. He has talked about, he said this. The United States will make sure that israel has what it means to defend itself, and israel has a right to protect its people. He went on, same kinds of remarks that the president and Secretary Of State have made about how civilians and the innocent should be protected at all costs. What is your sense of whats going on, what we cant see at the pentagon . There are three purposes here for our involvement. They forced as diplomatic. Obviously, we have been working very, very hard not just with israel, but with our countries in the region, all of whom ought to be involved in not only making sure that gazans are taken care of, but in the aftermath of a war, what happens when its all over . Because they all have a responsibility here in the region. And the United States is working diplomatically to make sure that there are some plans for that when everything is over. Second, we have one fleet there, strikeforce there. And i think we have another one either on the way, or will be on station soon, to demonstrate to tehran and syria, for example, or anybody else who wants to participate in this that they ought not to, that it could iran could launch an attack on American Forces in the Eastern Mediterranean, that they will be, there will be a response, a big response. The third thing is to assist israel in any way that it can, militarily. But in the event that the war spills over, and in the event that iran gets involved, we have a substantial force. They are in place in order to make sure that the war doesnt even get any wider. And that if theres any attack on American Forces that it will be punished. So, our forces are very, very busy right now. We have special Operations Forces over there, near there, working with Israeli Special Operations Forces in the event that hostages are contacted. They could be extracted. But thats an unlikely event, to be honest with you, nicole. Just an incredibly bleak moment. We are grateful to have both of you to talk us through it. John brennan and colonel jack jacobs, thank you so much for joining us. Coming up for us, israel deploys tanks near its northern border with lebanon, as tensions flare in that region as well. Im nicole wallace. And we are following Breaking News this hour. A palestinian diplomatic official just confirmed that the rafah Border Crossing between gaza and egypt will be open tomorrow morning at 9 am local, that is two 8 am eastern time, allowing americans and other foreign nationals in gaza to exit into egypt, as humanitarian aid starts to cross into got at the very same time. There are an estimated 500 to 600 americans in gaza. Also developing, u. S. Secretary of state Antony Blinken said that water has been turned back on in gaza. Blinken is slated to return to israel to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu again after meeting today with saudi and egyptian officials. Gaza city is currently quiet as the idf amass is for an extensive Ground Operation in the gaza strip that could come at anytime in the coming days. Idf spokesperson today confirmed that the Operations Mission is to permanently dismantle hamas leadership capabilities. The u. S. And israel are trying to keep the conflict from spreading. Irans Foreign Minister warned in an interview today that if israels military actions against gaza do not cease, quote, things may get out of hand, unquote. At this hour, nbc news is reporting that more than 1400 people have been killed in israel, in gaza at least 2670 people have been killed. More than half of those deaths have been women and children, according to gazas health ministry. Lets go to nbc news Foreign Correspondent matt bradley who is in lebanon. That, a lot of, i feel our tension is starting to shift to this conflict between israel and hamas and the role of hezbollah, tell us whats happening there. Hezbolla h, tell us what happening ther yeah, well, ju, nicole, we just heard from the idf, the israeli Defense Forces that hezbollah launched six antitank missiles from their side of the border where im sitting now. And if you look over that ridge, thats where the Israeli Border is. They fired over the Israeli Border. They said it killed one civilian. Thats the latest development today. We got a front row seat. Weve been seeing bombardments and Flashing Lights over my Left Shoulder here all day. And in fact all week. Now, nicole, if you zoom out a little bit, and heres why this is such a big deal because there has been fatalities all week, on either side of the border, including civilians, militants from hezbollah, israeli soldiers. And this is pale in comparison to what weve been seeing in israel and the gaza strip. But theres a reason why this deserves so much attention because when you zoom out a little bit, you see that there is actually Antony Blinken, who you just mentioned before. Hes traveling around the region. Weve seen the Iranian Foreign minister, hes traveling around the region, meeting with allies of iran, including hezbollah, and probably representatives of Hassan Nasrallah hamas. So, we are seeing these two Dueling Trips of major envoys, top diplomats, all trying to shore up their alliances, all of them basically dueling with each other, trying to determine where each others stand. And we just heard from the Iranian Foreign minister today, he directly challenge the u. S. , and he said that the u. S. Will suffer major losses if this war is escalated. And Anthony Blinken has been saying, warning against an escalation of this war as well. Both of them have their allies in the region. Again, if you zoom out, you are starting to see not just a conflict between the israelis and palestinians, which, well, very tragic, it is something that we are used to in the past. When you are starting to see a great power conflict starting to show, reaching white. The United States with its naval assets, the general ford strikes group, the aircraft carrier, just off my Left Shoulder and the Eastern Mediterranean sea, poised and ready for an extension of this conflict. And thats why the Iranian Foreign minister was directing those comments directly at the United States because this was seen as a major, major aggression. And so, really, we are creating a cause of concern here. If this situation boils over, if hezbollah, a major Iranian Proxy Group enters into the war, not only would it internationalize the conflict, it would draw and other major powers like iran, and possibly like the United States. The u. S. Has made it very clear that they will strike if this is internationalist. So, this is a situation that while it doesnt necessarily look like its violent, its what you are seeing in israel and gaza, it deserves a lot of attention because of this major war. Nicole . Matt bradley, your reporting is so fascinating because it highlights that irans allies are two terrace networks, while United States and israel are engaging other nations, like saudi arabia and egypt. Are we at the phase where iran is on a politically aligned with those two Terrace Groups . Not necessarily. After member has belies that major stake in the lebanese government in beirut, in the capital. It has ministers. It has members of parliament. I spoke with one today. Seiko, so hezbollah is considered a major militant group, so, it resembles an army. And establish political party. Army and establish political party. The Foreign Minister of iran paid a visit to one country that was also visited, i believe, by Antony Blinken. And that is qatar, the capital, though, where he made those belligerent comments today. So there are countries, both of them have in common, straddling both groups. And that just goes to show iran does have allies. It does have friends in the region. And iran just made diplomatic relations with saudi wavy just a couple of months ago. Iran is not necessarily completely out in the cold. It has assets and rishi. It is a benefactor of major powerful groups in this region. Once that are able and willing and clearly, in a very good position, have an appetite that to still conflict if tehran directs them to or if they desire to insert themselves. Thats why we can just say that iran is some sort of illegitimate nation, a state that is leading along all of these other militant groups that have no states behind them. It is simply not true. We are talking about a major power in the region, looking up against other major powers and then we can. And that is very threatening, for everyone here in the middle east. An it is such a smart point. And i guess my other point, the coalition and the Power Including Hezbollah and hamas which as vibrant Terrorist Actions as well. Yes, yes. Yeah, both groups are Terrorist Groups, as designated by the u. S. And israel and other groups. You are right in that sense. As israel prepares for a coating aided Military Operation in gaza, its Defense Forces must be preparing to fight a particular type of closed quarters urban warfare against hamas, while attempting to minimize potential harm to israeli hostages and any civilians in gaza. Joining me now with more on the idea, the capacity to do all of that, is a person whos written three books on his was military. And is currently a senior columnist with the jerusalem post, and Senior Fellow at the jewish people policy institute. He also has a daughter who is serving right now in the idf in southern israel. Lets start with your daughter actually. What is the mood and the morale of the active duty military . [inaudible] they are preparing for this Ground Incursion thats going to take place, at least the frontline troops, that what is everyones rocket attacks, terrorist infiltrations, what will come of that . So, the army is bracing for this next stage of the offensive. We have covered the leaflets dropped in gaza, and the call, thursday, 24 hours, given to evacuate Northern Gaza. Today they turned water back on. Despite that, obviously, every loss of life is a tragedy. And i wonder how you violence carried out the military objectives while also trying to protect innocence to the line . This is truly complicated especially in a place with a urban setting, thats repopulated, as hamas uses civilians. We saw images today that thomas was trying to struck and block civilians who are trying to move from Northern Gaza to the Southern Gaza. And they were trying to keep them in the north as well as sending messages to people threatening them from leaving because they want to continue to use them as human shields. They want israel to kill civilians. That is part of their overall strategy. But i think we have to understand what israel is trying to do. What its trying to do, it wants to try to empty out at that area, where its going to have to operate, because that is the hub and center of hamas terrorist activities in gaza. It wants to try and get civilians out of there. Thats the leaflets. Thats a call for people to move. Thats why they are turning on war in the south, so there will be watered down there. We should be talking about egypts border, we should be talking about each of not opening its border, but to all people from gaza. This iss words responsibility. Well have to keep in mind is that on the one hand people say dont go into gaza because you might kill civilians. And then, they say dont displaced people because you are the spacing people. So, shouldnt israel be allowed to defend itself . This was a Terrorist Massacre carried out against israel. Israel has to go in to weed out and root out this terrorist organization. That is exactly what the american president , joe biden, and then american Secretary Of State Antony Blinken and u. S. Secretary of defense have said this week that not only does israel have a right to defend herself, but it has an obligation to do so. I wonder if you can weigh in on some of the reporting that my colleague, matt bradley, just shared about the Whitening Radius of regional tensions with iran and hezbollah. How does the israeli National Security apparatus prepare for both commencing a ground war in gaza and the Strategic Planning for a broader conflict . Israel is very concerned about the whitening scope of this conflict. Thats why they may decide something in a bigger way. Antitank missiles fired at israeli outpost across the border. There was one civilian was killed, a Construction Worker. That Construction Worker was targeted by hezbollah and was murdered by hezbollah. We have to understand that is where the intelligence are saying this very clearly, iran is trying to stoke claims. They are trying to get more of their groups involved in this conflict. They want hezbollah to light up that northern border. They want the houthis in yemen to fire rockets. We could see iranian militias and iraq Firing Missiles at israel. They want this. The question is, and we somehow keep this contained . And if so, can israel just focus on gaza. Israel has called up 300,000 reservists. They have forces along both borders and israel is prepared for the possibility that this conflict will expand. Your expertise is so appreciated at the important, and our thoughts will be with your daughter, we hope she stays safe. Thank you very much. We are taking some time to talk with us today. Thank you. Thank you. Families of hostages taken by thomas terrorists are calling for their loved ones to return home safely. 23 year old was taken hostage by hamas from that Music Festival in the south of israel where more than 230 people were brutally murdered. His family believes he is among the hostages, and after seeing videos on social media showing him being held by Hamas Terrorists and forcefully walked into the gaza strip. Joining us now is his cousin, jonathan. Jonathan, im so sorry for your worry. And i wonder what your sense is, both what youve heard, and what your sense is about his safety . So, nicole, as far as we know, and we believe that he is safe. The last week that we saw him, the last evidence, we did see him on harmed. So our belief is that he is doing good, and we are very thankful for that. We are still, you know, in a State Of Mind that i dont wish on anyone in the world. The families are in pieces right now, just scrambling, really, hoping to hear something from him. But that is the current situation. What we do hold firm belief, the last time we saw him walking into the gaza strip, his hands tied, led by militants. But we do still believe his ally. Jonathan, if its not too painful, could you take us back to saturday morning when you learned that he had been taken . So, of course, i woke up in the morning to a terrible, terrible news from the south. I myself dont live in israel. I live in europe. But the news coming in was horrendous for anyone, you know, to see. And at some point, we just got the message in the family that, family group chat, that he was kidnapped. His family found out through video. It is a painful experience that i cannot even describe, to see a Family Member tied up, in captivity, hopeless. And, you know, he was an unarmed civilian. He went to a party. He had no way to defend himself. The last time we heard from him is when the rocket brought started in the party. And we did hear from other people in the party that he stayed back, trying to support injured people. You know, trying to help people get out. And we believe that could be part of the reason that he got, you know, kidnapped in the end. It is just a terrible state of being right now. We dont know exactly what his situation is. But we are thankful that he is still with us, and that he is still alive. What a remarkable, sort of, thing to know too, staying back and helping people. Thats why where he is at the moment, that was kidnapped and taken into gaza. I cant imagine doing the same, as you are doing right now, talking about this on tv. So, thank you very much for talking to us. And we hope and pray that you will all be together again soon. Thank you, nicole. We just want to, you know, shout out to the world, and to know that he is alive, and that we are happy for you to give us this time but to let the world know. Thank you so much. Please, come back with any updates or anything that you learned. Jonathan guttmann, thank you very, very much. Thank you. We have another entire hour of special news, coverage of the Israel Hamas War. Coming up, israel sea, air, and Land Incursion into gaza could begin any moment. And Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to, quote, demolish hamas. We will get a live report from the israel gaza border, just minutes away. Plus, Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer was forced to take over june rocket fire during his trip to israel. We have maryland senator and Foreign Relations Committee Chairman ben cardin standing by to talk about that. And Senate Resolution supporting israel. And then, we will have a chance to speak to New York City mayor eric adams. He made a powerful speech this week. It was a condemnation with antisemitism after the brutal Terrorist Attack on israel. The message he wants to send to the Jewish Community all Around The World, tonight. Dont go anywhere. Youre watching msnbc. [sfx game controller] when occasional heartburn wont let you sleep. Im michael wallace. Its 5 00 in the east. It is midnight in israel and in gaza. We are covering and unpacking the latest in the Israel Hamas War that has already claimed more than 4000 lives. And gazans are still battling a humanitarian crisis, last hour, Secretary Of State Anthony Blinken said that water has been turned back on in gaza by israel. And that the u. S. Worked with israel to make that happen. Also happening last hour, palestinian official confirmed that americans and other foreign nationals in gaza will be permitted to enter egypt using that rafah Border Crossings beginning at 9 am local time, that is two a. M. For. Especially u. S. Has between 500 and 600 americans have been unable to leave gaza. That Voter Opening will also allow humanitarian aid to float into gaza. Meanwhile, the israeli Defense Forces, or idf, is expected to launch an extensive Ground Operation in the gaza strip. At any time in the coming days. The stated goal of that mission is to remove hamas from leadership and work over the 150 hostages kidnapped in last saturdays Terrorist Attack. This as 1 million residents of Northern Gaza are evacuating, seeking shelter, as we tell you tory airstrikes leveled their campuses, homes, and places of worship. Also today, israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, met with families of some of the hostages kidnapped in last weeks Terrorist Attack. Photos of their loved ones in front of them. The pain, currently being experienced by every one of these families, as well as those of the civilians on all sides of this fight who have lost family and loved ones is for us likely unimaginable. But with the full scale Ground Operation in gaza soon to be underway, the situation is getting even more dire. Lets get to nbcs Alison Barber. Shes reporting live from along the israel gaza border. Alison, what are you seeing . Nicole, its been relatively calm, as calm as i guess it can, be given the circumstances in the last hour. We have seen two different groupings of flatbed trucks, sort of convoys, small convoys, though, headed into the direction of gaza, with Armed Personnel Carriers on the flatbed part of those trucks. About an hour ago, we heard what sounded like mortars firing into gaza, and artillery bombardment. We counted at least eight booms. We can hear periodically the sound of some sort of Military Aircraft in the air above us. But we havent seen any in the last couple of hours weve been here, at least, we havent seen any missiles coming from the side of israel or any coming out of gaza into the direction of israel. As we were making our way here tonight, we were stopped at a gas station in southern israel, between the cities of ashkelon and ashdod. And there, we met an israeli idf commander. And he wanted to talk to us. And we stood and talk to him for a little while about just everything that is going on. He said he is from this area and when i asked him if he knew anyone, that had been hurt or killed in those Terrorist Attacks that took place on saturday he sort of whispered yes. He talked about how since then, he has been waiting for the call to head to the front lines. Hes been told that his unit will likely position on the northern border in the event that hezbollah expands their attack but the thing that was so striking listening to someone who was spent time in the military who has family, who has spent years, he said his father spent 13 years in the army. He knows that, devastation, destruction. You can tell that he was incredibly paint by the Hostage Situation that is still going on inside of gaza. He looked at me and he said in nine days. We have grandparents, they have mothers, they have women, they have children. And he was frustrated that it has taken so long for there to be more of a response to get them out. He was frustrated that it took so long for Security Forces to show up when those attacks began on saturday. And then at one point, they looked at me and he said, im 32 years old. He lifted his hands of kind of like handcuffed and he said i know me and many other men my age would walk into gaza right now and would say take us instead. Just let the older people out on the, let the children out. As were talking about the situation and the need to evacuate people and whats going on with civilians in palestine, we just heard in gaza the palestinian people, incredibly difficult situation for them. But there is still so much pain here amongst israelis, and the fact that there are those hostages somewhere between 100 to 150 still inside of gaza. And they have been waiting for answers to see some sort of concentrated effort from people weve spoken to to get them out. And they havent seen it yet. And talking to that man, i was reminded of that pain they have. And the fact that he looked at me saying, i walk and right now. If we can just get them out. Remember, when talk about the people who are missing, murdered, they are from over 40 different countries. And based on Family Information have spoken out about people who are missing, believed to be abducted, there is one family where they had a three year old child and a nine month old baby, and their belief they have been abducted. So that is a thing to remember as we talk about the importance of people o remember as we talk civilians being ableo safety inside of gaza. Its also the pain still, the fact that there is still so many young people missing, and even a 32yearold commander in the idf who is no stranger to devastation, no stranger to death, he was visibly pained by that and the agony that its not been one, two, three days, but almost nine and now. So important. Such an important piece of reporting. You are such a pro that you observed all of that in what sounds like a chance encounter. I wondered if you can expand on what they believe their role may be, if any, in retrieving the hostages . Is that being handled by a different, covert part of the National Security apparatus . When we spoke to people, not just military people, other civilians to, their initial gut reaction of a Hostage Situation get Special Forces in there. Get them out. The idf said overnight they were carrying out some small raids. Covert action. In the overnight hours, they killed a commander within hamass Military Units who they say was responsible for leading to the attacks that took place and kibbutzes. When you are a fourth of the kibbutzs community is believed to have been murdered, and or abducted, 100 at a 400 people there. When we talked to people about what should the response be, most of the seat, this was the case when we are speaking to civilians in tel aviv, on monday, they want to see Special Forces just hit the ground go in and find the hostages. The reality it is far more complicated than most people can never comprehend. This Military Commander as well seem to feel the same. They want us to move forward and quickly. They feel like the biggest priority is trying to retrieve some of the civilians who have been abducted out of gaza and to get them home alive. Nbcs Alison Barber stayed up late for us. Thank you for that extraordinary report. We are so grateful to you for being our eyes and ears there. These latest developments are almost certain to usher in a tragic long and destructive war. Israel rely on aid from its longtime ally, the United States of america. Sources tell nbc news that top lawmakers are preparing for supplemental funding requests from the white house for additional aid to israel as well as ukraine. As soon as this week. Thats according to two congressional aides and to administration sources. Lets get to our next guest, senator ben cardin, democrat from maryland. He is the chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. Senator, thank you for taking the time to talk to us. Its good to be with you. Thank you. What if anything did you hear from senator schumer when they had to take shelter today in tel aviv . First, let me say its been extremely difficult as weve seen the sheer evil of hamas in full view. Executing innocent civilians. I have not had a chance to talk to senator schumer since he left. I talked to him before he left. He wanted to see firsthand what has happened. He wanted to talk to some of the families. He obviously wanted to let the israelis know that we are fully in support of whatever they need. I can tell you as chairman my priorities is to make sure israel gets what it needs to do everything we can to get the hostages back safely. To provide safe passage for civilians, innocent civilians, that are caught in this war. The president , the Secretary Of State, the Secretary Of Defense have all basically said what you have said. There is no daylight between any of them. Prime minister netanyahu. It would have been extraordinary three weeks ago. How much has that creation of the emergency unity government apart of the administrations clear comfort at standing still the soldier with prime netanyahu in the wake of the heinous terrace to track . There is unity and israel. There is unity in the United States. Democrats and republicans are working together to make sure every trail gets what it needs. Not just by our, words by our deeds. You are seeing this government in israel, making it clear that israel stands united in their defense. The horror of what we saw hamas do, that has brought us together to recognize we have to be united to speak out against such actions and to hold hamas accountable. We cannot let this organization continue to do its evil. Jeremy bash, a frequent guest on my program, said on friday that his daughter came home and wondered if it was safe in america to wear a Star Of David. The fear that American Jewish communities feel is briefed the white house about threats here at home. I wonder what your thoughts are about the repercussions of this tara tack in israel . Prior to this, we saw a rise of antisemitism and hate Around The World, including here in the United States. We know that International Events can sometimes spark a rise in hate. We are concerned. We are taking steps to make sure we protect all communities. Because of this conflict. Yes, i think there is a concern. I can tell you, we are taking all necessary steps to protect the population here in the United States. Globally, there is a rise of antisemitism. We have to recognize. That leaders need to speak out. We cannot tolerate hate and our community. Im pleased to see our leader speaking out against all forms of hate. Well the lack of a leader in the House Of Representatives and the republican Side Hamstring your ability to send aid to israel . We are going to start action in the senate this week. We will keep moving. We have heard from our House Colleagues that they recognize they have to function. Clearly, whats happening in the House Of Representatives is not good for democracy. We need a functioning House Of Representatives. We need a Republican Party to be able to get their act together. To provide stable leadership. Leadership that can Work Across Party Lines to get things done. Look at israels doing today and a unity government. We need america. A place in the world depends on upon our ability to work effectively and to be a reliable partner. We hope they will see the House Republicans come to gather and give that stability thats needed and our congress. Its so interesting. Stability is the byproduct. Senator ben cardin, thank you very much for spending some time talking to us today. We are very grateful. Thank you, nicole. We have much more special coverage of the israel hamas. More the crisis in israel has brought the Jewish Community to gather across the globe. Sometimes in fear. It has united leaders of various faiths to take a stand against antisemitism. Is it enough . We will hear from our team on the ground in Northern Israel about when americans are looking to escape the nature in israel. They might be able to get out if they want. Do all that is still coming up, dont go anywhere. My active Psoriatic Arthritis can make me feel like im losing my rhythm. Learn how abbvie could help you save. As a Ground Incursion nears the american Jewish Community is not only concern for friends and loved ones in israel some of whom are being held hostage and some of them lost their lives britley last saturday, some of whom have returned home to fight for their country, theyre also worrying about a rise in antisemitism right here in the United States. Because of all faiths coming together to combat that. Joining me is reverend al sharpton, and also joining us as my friend the president and founder of also joining the Reverend Danny S Jonathan Greenblatt, our friend and ceo of the anti defamation league. It strikes me that the three of us have had so many conversations about the sort of tinderbox and the powder keg, whatever word you want to use, of antisemitism here in the United States, stoked bipartisan actors. But jonathan, it is a whole new level of i think terror that a lot of people in jewish communities in this country feel, with the Terror Attack last saturday and the reaction to it. Can you just tell me how you are feeling today . Well, i think all of us in the Jewish Community are still processing the most murderous day in our history since the holocaust. More jews were killed on october 7th than any day since the second world war. That is staggering. And the pain, i mean, the Jewish Community is a small. Theres only 15 or 16 million jews Around The World. Everyone has only one degree of separation from the people who were butchered and burned and raped and killed in israel. Our community here in the United States, there is deep concern and the reality is that we were already dealing with record levels of antisemitism in america. And since the massacre at the av l, we have tracked 276 increase, a 300 increase, in just a week. Similar numbers in the uk. In france there were 1000 reported incidents last week in the first 48 hours, nicole. And germany i woke up this morning to a report from the head of my Europe Office that there were jewish stars, stars of david, painted on Apartment Buildings with large concentrations of jews. Because someone is targeting the buildings. In the Jewish Community that has dealt with so much of trauma over so many generations, we know what this is. Yes we are very concerned. But i think we are also very result. I have never seen our community more united. Ive never seen our community more together. And what is important here is it transcends partisan politics. On the right in the, left democrats and republicans are saying, the first and foremost we care about life. We choose life. Well push back on the terror of hamas in these efforts to intimidate us. I think that resolve is universal. And ive heard that here too. I think the other, thing jonathan, that is universal is fair. Through the micro decisions like, should i take my child to jewish preschool . Should i wear my Star Of David . How do you deal with that, and what do you tell people . Ive had dozens and dozens of calls in the last several days. I dont know if you are aware of this or, not but this past friday, october the 13th, was a purported day of jihad. Those are the awards of the hamas leader living in qatar, while his people suffer and. Gaza he announced a day of rage. He called on people Around The World to attack twos and jewish sites. The result of that, nicole, was that many jewish parents were afraid to say and held their kids back from school on friday. Many juice only they were going to avoid on. Friday wondering if they should travel on friday. Putting their stars of david away. Putting their mezuzahs away. We in america are intimidated by terrorists. When we are so harassed by these barbarians that it forces us to our lifestyle, i think that is incredibly scary. What is even scarier is to see these rallies and demonstrations here, nicole. People coming out in the streets for pro hamas rallies, celebrating the massacres. It is happening on University Campuses and in public places. This is also alarmed our community. So again, while there are people who are afraid, we are resolved. While there are some who are intimidated, much more many of us are energized. We will not be daunted by these terrorists. I think we will see the Jewish Community continue to come together in ways that will blow away these people who try to scare us. Rev, your lifes work is combatting hates. Many of us have talked a lot about the responsibility of Law Enforcement to protect and assemble all the tools to protect people. The fight against hate is much broader than that. I wonder what your thoughts are today . The fight must earn clued all of us. Even when it is not you or i specifically that become the targets, over a year ago and we started talking about this spike in hate crimes, against blacks and jews and latinos and asians, Jonathan Greenblatt and our urban league and all of us came together and how the first hate summit in the white house. Little did we know we would be where we are today. I remember just a few weeks ago, nicole. Over 150,000 people in the march on washington, that jonathan was bond with king the third and myself. While we were marching, a hate crime was happening in jacksonville, florida. Three blacks were killed by a white supremacist. I went to a funeral. Jonathan says, im going with you as a jew to stand against racism. When this happened last saturday i called him and i said, wait a minute. A lot of the people that were killed were not killed because of any politics. They were killed because they were jewish in israel. And that was a hate crime. We are going to stand with you. I said, you cannot against everybody and palestine most of them are not hamas we have got to stop this pace and the stuff we were going one against another. We need, ive always fought and always stood for, a two state solution. But you do not do it by making human beings, civilians, Collateral Damage. Thats what happened to the blacks and browns that worked in the world trade center. Anytime we normalize the coach or normalize the idea that Collateral Damage is all civilians are, then who makes you not be the next one on the list . So we must stand together now, for all involved. From israel to gaza. That they are not Collateral Damage. We need a peaceful settlement. Nicole, this is why when you asked to be feel scared and frightened, this is why we feel strong. This is what hamas doesnt have, this is what these terrorist dont have. Genuine solidarity and a bond, that the Jewish Community and the Africanamerican Community has had for generations. What you see the National Action network do, Whether Marching On Washington Were Standing with, israel the Jewish Community, today, this is what america looks. Like this is what they will never understand. This is why they will lose. In eight days there has not been much with has made me smile. Talking to the two of you together is a rare exception. We ought to bring in the communities that represents the palestinian population. There is a tradition for the. Lets not forget, nicole, andrew young. He was at the u. N. Because he wanted to russia. He negotiated a two state settlements. I cover a tradition of people that had to take flak for standing up. But i will not be concerned about taking flak for saying, it cannot have civilians become Collateral Damage for people that just want to be murderers. They are not militants. They are murderers. Terrorist. Jonathan greenblatt and reverend al sharpton, this conversation, i, hope is to be continued. Thank you both so much for taking some time to talk to me today. After the, break for us. What we know about the Israeli Military movement in gaza right now. And what may be ahead in the coming hours, days and weeks. Plus, What Americans Waiting to leave israel make a change chance to do so. Well bring you the latest after a quick break. Ter a quick break. Welcome back to msnbcs live coverage on the war against hamas. Were coming up on 30 past the hour. It is 12 30 pm in israel and gaza. A diplomatic official just confirmed that the rafah Border Crossing will be open tomorrow morning. And 9 am local time. Allowing americans and other foreign nationals in gaza to exit into egypt and humanitarian aid starts to flow into gaza at the very same time. Also developing, u. S. Secretary of state Antony Blinken says that water has been turned back on in gaza. Hes slated to return to israel with Benjamin Netanyahu after meeting today with saudi and egyptian officials. Gaza city is currently quiet as the idf masses for an extensive Ground Operation in the gaza strip. Which could come at anytime in the coming days. And Idf Spokesperson today confirming the Operations Mission is to permanently dismantle hamas leadership capability. U. S. And israel are trying to keep the conflict from expanding and spreading. The Foreign Minister warning in interview today that if israels military actions against gaza do not cease, quote, things may get out of. Hands this hour, nbc news reporting the more than 1400 people have been killed inside israel and gaza. At least 2670 people have been killed. More than half of those deaths have been women and children, according to gazas health ministry. We have Team Coverage in the region this evening. Stay up late for. Us nbcs Foreign Correspondent is in iran. And nbcs Josh Lederman joins us from haifa, israel. Lets go to allie first. Ali, iran is always so important to everything that has happened since the brutal Terror Attack last saturday. Tell us the latest. That is right. Iran has been very vocal about the israeli operation going into gaza. Theyve been issuing warnings left right and center. Irans Foreign Ministry said that if they dont stop their operations, if israelis dont star stop their operations today, tomorrow will be too late. They cannot stand by and watch as a bystander. If the scope of the war expands then heavy losses will not only be inflicted to israeli troops but two u. S. Troops as well. Warning americans not to get involved. Irans president spoke with Emmanuel Macron earlier and told him that these are atrocities are being committed by israel. Including the siege, and mass murder. He said that if the situation isnt halted, and it becomes further complicated, then the Theater Of War will expand. Another outlet here which is very close to the National Security council, warrant israelis. I said if they go and they will face another trap in gaza. And face a flood, to. A lot of Saber Rattling kohberger of iran. They also warned that you have this Ground Operation that does happen in gaza. And then hezbollah could get involved with Southern Lebanon and of course hezbollah takes all of its orders directly from iran. The big question is whether they will get involved. Theyre saying that they will get involved but its also important to note, nicole, that iran does not want to bring the fight onto its own soil. Irans theory has always been to fight israel. But not on their own soil. Thats why they have created what they call this axis of resistance. Or the have hezbollah in lebanon. Hamas on the gaza strip. And militants in syria as well as the Syrian Government being sympathetic to iran. And then of course we have militants in iraq going to Border Israel and yemen. They have all of these people doing their fighting for them. So the fight does not come onto iranian soil. Whole thing went out in iran, to make everybody very aware that they may be pulling the strings but there is no blood being spelled in iran. As this develops we will have to see how deeply involved iran. Gets everybody has been very suspicious about irans involvement. If this escalates than the finger of blame a. B. Pointed more squarely at irans involvement. Ali arouzi, our iran bureau chief, please stay safe. I want to bring in Josh Lederman and haifa, israel. Reporting on the mediterranean. Josh, what is the latest . Well here in haifa there is a charter ship that is going to be leaving here tomorrow morning, knuckle. Carrying up to hundreds or even thousands of american citizens who are trying to find their way out of israel. It has really been an agonizing decision over the last week. Thousands of americans have close ties to israel. Some of whom live here or visit often. About whether to stay here and be alongside israelis, who live here and are going to set out this danger and this war, however it goes. Or whether it is time for them to simply leave. For those who have made the decision that they want to get out, that has not been easy because the big three u. S. Carriers, American Delta and united, they have all canceled flights to and from israel. Many of the International Carriers have is. While the u. S. Government is now organizing. They dont call It Evacuation Flights exactly. You remember from your time in the government that is a very specific term. But they are referring to these Assistant Departures that are being organized by the u. S. Government. And includes the ship that is going to be leaving tomorrow morning. American citizens have been told that theyre going to show up at the Port Of Haifa just behind me as a stadium. They could bring one piece of luggage. They could not bring in the pets. I have to leave them behind. This is open both to americans and to their immediate relatives. But theyre not going from here to the United States. In fact, the ship is going to be taking them to cyprus from which point theyre going to have to figure out their own way to get back to the United States. I spoke to here in high five with the cline family from muskogee, illinois. Mother father and their daughter who made the difficult decision after wrestling with us for today is that it was time to leave israel, before this impending Ground Incursion. When we get to, cypress we dont have a hotel. We dont have flights. We dont know what time this ship is going to get. There we dont even know if there will be room on this ship for, us because this first come first serve. Theyre also leaving behind their 18yearold son, who was decided to stay as part of a gap here program. These are the causative about decisions that americans are making as they avail them selves of this opportunity. Theyre also charter flights will be leaving here, organized by the u. S. Both tomorrow and tuesday, michael. Josh, we just have the Breaking News of the u. S. State department has confirmed that 30 americans have lost their life. That killed. In the war. Since the Terror Attack commands. And 13 are unaccounted for. It just puts your reporting about these decisions and these families in your reporting, decline family and their 18yearold son left behind. Into this more stark and dire decisions of these families are making. That is exactly. Right the danger here is real. In fact u. S. Government said for americans who need to get to the Port Of Haifa for the ship, you are traveling on your own risk. We cannot guarantee your safety. And the concern is that the risk here in israel there was obviously well over 1000 People Killed in a single day last saturday. But if there is no actual ground more, we are going to see even farther uptick of violence emanating from the gaza strip. Rockets landing in israel, potentially additional attempts by hamas to infiltrate israel. And there could be additional americans who are directly in harms way. That is to say nothing of the 500 to 600 estimated american citizens who are in the gaza strip. And have no way to get out at this point. The government has been telling those americans that if they feel it is safe, they should make their way into Southern Gaza near the Border Crossing so that if that heel you talked about works tomorrow and they have a short window to get out that they will be closer to that point of exits, nicole. Well know in a couple of hours. It will be to amr time. 9 am local time. Josh, thank you so much for your reporting in please day safe. Earlier this, week the u. S. Secretary of state reacted on the ground in israel to the horrific images weve all seen now, after eight days of war. It is hard to find the right words. It is beyond what anyone would ever want to imagine. Much less actually see, and god forbid experience. A baby, an infant. Riddled with bullets. Soldiers beheaded. Young people burnt alive, in their cars or in their hideaway rooms. I could go on. That its simply depravity in the worst imaginable way. It almost defies comprehension. Depravity in the worst imaginable way. Those were the words of u. S. Secretary of state, just eight days ago, that. Happen im want to bring in congressman brad sherman, representing california. And a member of the House Foreign Affairs committee. Thank you for being with us. The Secretary Of State has been on a multi stop tour. The u. S. Secretary of defense was in israel alongside his counterpart. Until biden gave some notches comments that you would expect from an american statesman, but deeply personal comments about taking his kids and grandkids to the cow when they turned 13. I want your thoughts on the administrations response on the Terror Attack in israel . I think the Biden Administration is showing the incredible experience that President Biden has in foreign policy. And the empathy that he has four victims in this case, jews who have had the worst week since the holocaust. I think that administrations handling it well. Not only and standing with israel, but in arranging this effort thats the Rafah Crossing so that people can leave. We have water being restored by the israelis. So i think that the president is handling this well. I do want to comment and one thing that came up before i came on. That is, you had casualties to this tax roam the quote Gaza Department of health. They should realize of course that is the Hamas Ministry of propaganda. There is only one government in gaza. It is hamas. And we have to take all reports from something that sounds like a neutral Government Agency with a grain of salt. That feels really important. Say more. It is hard to get reliable information as to what is happening in gaza. One of the most controversial things is that apparently there are quite a number of gazans who were hit by explosions as they were moving south. And of course hamas says that is is really attacking people when they are doing what israel wants them to do. But in fact, there is a lot of evidence that is in fact a hamas ied that went off. And it would simply make sense. Hamas is trying to force his people to stay in Northern Gaza where they can act as human shields. Israel is urging people to move to the south. So you have to ask, who can you rely on and in whose interest is it to interrupt the efforts of Palestinian Civilians to move south and move out of harms way . Im so glad that you brought that to the four. We try to bring the best in the latest information to people. But you are right, it is more important than ever to examine the sources. I really appreciate. That Congressman Sherman from california, thanks for taking the time to talk with us today. Thank you. When hamas believes they are fighting on behalf of something, and theyre destructive despicable action they carried out. We are not all right when we still have hostages who have not come home to their families. We are not all right, and we are not going to say we have a stiff upper lip, and act like everything is fine. Everything is not fine. Israel has a right to defend itself. And that is the rights that we know. Your fight is our fight. New york city mayor eric adams. The speech was getting a surge in the world over. Bringing not just the Jewish Community of new york together, but rallying people to israel support, the world. Over mayor adams joins us right. Now we watch the whole thing a couple times now. And it feels like you gave voice to things that a lot of people were feeling. Just had not said yet on the platform you gave it. This impacts the israeli people. And israel and jewish people across the globe. But i needed for jewish people to know that it impacted all of us. You could not have been a father or a mother and not felt for those who lost their children. Who were removed from their homes. You could not be a son of grandparents and not see the look on the face of a holocaust survivor as she was being pulled away. It struck the fears of all of us. I wanted to convey that in a very clear way to the people who are experiencing this directly. But indirectly we are all feeling this pain. Hamas must be disbanded. They must be removed. They must be brought to justice. There was a sense on friday that new york might not be safe either. Not just for jewish citizens or jewish institutions but that the city could once again von hirable. What is your understanding . I know there was never any specific threat but has that passed . What is your sense of the Security Situation in New York City right now . I want to commend the peace police commissioner. He immediately had even those officers who were selling to non uniform duties to wear the uniforms. Because part of combatting terror is what we call armored presence. And we had officers had high profile locations that included houses of warships and mosques and synagogues. Churches and other temples. But we also send a very clear message that you will have the u. S. Right to protest but you will not do it with violence. And we monitored intel by looking as many of the social media platforms on sites. There were things we did visibly but there were also a very sophisticated intel operation that was taking place. And we wanted to send a very clear and loud message that new yorkers, we wont live in fear. Were gonna use every part of our Law Enforcement apparatus to protect new yorkers in general and specifically those of the Jewish Community here in the city. This rough rain that you invoked with great effect and passion that we are not all right, and how some of the applications. I mean our country and our politics are not all right. Our ability to knit together, despite our political differences as a country. They just had a much broader message. And im wondering if you could say more and say a little bit about the response that you got to that speech. I think you are extremely accurate when you think about it. I hate to bring religious philosophy to its. But there is a demonic spirit that i believe is crisscrossing our entire globe. We see this playing out in ukraine. You saw what happened in south america when children are going through and when i was there. And you watch what happens in israel. This there is a demonic spirits when you be had children, when you rape girls. When you pull people from their homes. When you want to execute individuals in front of their loved ones. There is a real demonic energy that is really something that all of us have faith, all of us that believe in humanity, should acknowledge. And we must come together, unify allround those things that we stand for. And i was really troubled when i saw the Democratic Socialist Party hold a protest within a day or so after this horrific action. Holding up swastikas and calling for the eradicate figure shouldve jewish people in this protest. This is not who we are. The overwhelming majority of human beings. We cannot allow the fringe element to drag us into a states that will take us out of who we are and our compassion that we bring towards these issues. I have heard from people on and off tv about how much they appreciated your comments and it is a privilege to get to talk to you today. Thank you so much, New York City mayor eric adams. Thank you for joining us. Thank you. It is a top priority for the israeli Defense Forces is of course rescuing the more than 120 hostages currently being held in gaza. After that, it is wiping out hamass ability to carry out acts of terror good. New york times reports this, quote. Tens of thousands of hamas gunman are thought to have entrenched themselves inside tunnels beneath gaza city in the surrounding parts of Northern Gaza. There is also the threat from hezbollah. A spokesperson for the israeli army said sunday that hezbollah action has escalated in the north. And in the west bank, israel says that 200 hamas militants have been arrested. The idf now says it is preparing to, fight quote, on two fronts and even more. National security adviser Jake Sullivan had this to say earlier today about israels priorities in the coming days. We believe that israel can be successful in dealing a devastating blow to hamas. They are working on that now as we speak. And we are supporting them in that effort because israel has not just a right to defend itself against this kind of terrorism, but as the president said, a duty to defend itself against this kind of terrorism. Former cia officer mark poly right office, joins me now. He is a National Security analyst. Mark, we have stopped asking the question of how this could happen. How could the signs be missed . It is such a almost medieval mass slaughter happening right on israels, under their nose. But the reason i bring it up as i wonder, they were blind to that. There were things they could be blind to as they prepare to heading to gaza . First and foremost, accountability. There is no doubt that from the israelis. The internal service and Israeli Military intelligence has a beat on gaza or we thought they did. Which entails human intelligence. Spies sources. Communications intercepts and the use of drones and technologies. That all failed. Knowing the Israeli Security establishment, ive worked with them for years. Theyre gonna kick the vowels up either boosts and jump back into the fray. They do have knowledge of gaza. But i think that what you mentioned before, the tunnel, system is an enormous challenge. He word we use is the gaza metro. It is going to be tough fighting when they go in there. Theyre gonna have to find the hamas operatives. Theres 10,000 across the city area. Leadership and regular street fighters but ultimately, all those who they want to target. And then of course theyre going to have to find the hostages. So it is quite a challenge. And theyre going to have to be up to it. One of the things, nicole and i think we all realize this. Now this is an existential threat in the eyes of the israelis. They are going into gaza. There is an inevitability to this right now but i think we all should certainly except. This is going to happen. Mark, what is the efforts to retrieve the hostages . Do you think it is happening it will be secrets . Do you think well ever now . Do you think will only know when its over . Clearly theres going to be operational security. Now weve seen reports that Special Forces were already inside. Nicole, you have intelligence that will drive a Military Operation. In this case i think the cycle is a bit reversed. Thats when operations can drive intelligence. What does that mean . It means capturing a hamas commander or uncovering a safe house. Were going to a place where there certainly can be documents. Thats what we would call sensitive site exploitation. All of this can drive the intelligence that would lead them to hostages. One of the things i think we should understand is that this might not have a fairytale ending. A lot of hostages are, there is going to be really difficult. I think that the idea of the hostages all coming out alive in one piece is something that we would love that to happen. I dont want to anticipate that. It is a matter of time but is also a factor. Mark, thank you so much for spending this time with us today. We are really grateful. An want to thank all of you for letting us into your homes during this extraordinary time.
