The latest from liverpool and the Labor Party Conference shortly. A very busy day for you. All the days top stories coming for you in just a moment. Before that, the latest developments on the israel hamas war. Mark has the latest. Hi, mark. Good morning, kaye. Good morning from jerusalem. Theres fresh fighting between hamas and Israeli Forces outside gaza. The Israeli Defense force said they thought they would be in a better place by now. Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu calls it rubble and a black day after the hamas attacks on saturday. These are this mornings key developments. An Israeli Military spokesperson has side while their forces are fighting masked gunmen in seven or eight places in israel. They thought they would be in a better place. Overnight the Gaza Health Ministry says over 400 people have been killed. At least 700 people have been killed in israel and over 600 bodies have been removed from the Music Festival targeted by hamas. Last night the u. S. Said it would send warships and fighter jets to support israel. Recall these are the latest pictures were getting as israel continued to hit the Gaza Airstrip with targets overnight. 78 children are among 400 killed in the territory so far. The u. N. Agency for Palestinian Refugees says a school sheltering more than 225 people took a direct hit. The u. N. Says more than 123,000 people in gaza have been displaced so far. Some rockets were also fired from israel toward gaza overnight. Lets get the latest from our International Affairs representative. Reporter whats most astonishing is the fact theyre still fighting hamas fighters in seven or eight places around the communities around gaza, and in some of the situations the Alms Fighters are Still Holding hostages. They also say hamas is still able to get out of gaza either by sea or land by the many breaches made in the security fence, and that poses a threat to the people of these communities around gaza, and we have seen yesterday a group of hamas militants not go in by sea. They went through the streets and starts shooting people. 15 israelis killed. The shots behind me, its a coffee shop. Le the bomb shelters this morning were full and theyre now half full, so a lot of people have left. Ourl Chief Correspondent Stuart Ramsey reports. A warning his report includes images of body bags containing victims and the bloody aftermath of the attack. Murdered in cold blood, the bodies of some of the victims of the hamas attack have yet to be removed. The blood splattered cars. The vehicles potmarked and broken by the hail of bullets. This was a coordinated attack on the town of surrat. The road leading to it was lined with vehicles attacked as they drove through the city in this surprise attack. Some escaped on foot, but many were killed or taken hostage and driven to gaza. Le survivors like isaac hid in their homes praying the gunmen wouldnt find them. It was simply terrifying, they say. Translator i was shocked. Shocked. 6 00 in the morning on a holiday. It was scary. Reporter the main Police Station was destroyed taken over by the gunmen who killed 20 officers. The scale of what happened here is clearly unfathomable for the people of israel. Nobody ever thought this was remotely possible. In the end, the Defense Forces destroyed the station. In many ways its a symbol of a Security System that simply failed. Even when we have the idea of one person is killed, we take it as a personal loss and personal responsibility. Here hundreds have been killed. Well do the most thorough analysis, learn our lessons, make sure that never happens again, but thats going to be tomorrow. Right now we have to do everything for the civilians and restore peace and we video to make sure hamas never does this again to israel. Reporter the country is scared and has been scarred by this attack. Security is now everywhere. The only cars in any significant numbers are heading north. On board families moving away from the Gaza Borderline with anything they can squeeze in. At a Petro Station we saw s. W. A. T. Teams. Amongst them are negotiators, but this is an ongoing war, and youre never far from it. Those jets in the air,s thats the sound that the iron dome, the Israeli Defense system. The soldiers are putting on their helmets. Youre never sure whats happening at any given time out here. The dome is protecting israel, but its still unnerving. The jets are above us as well. This is very much an active battlefield in many ways. The police and s. W. A. T. Teams are here because further along the road are where its believed hostages are still being held. The Defense Forces are still securing the gaza border, but theres already a buildup of soldiers and hardware. The government is in no mood for mercy and that willive Everybody Itably cost the lives of civilians. Reporter well, more than 100 people have been taken hostage by hamas. Thats according to a senior official of that group, and more people remain missing. These are just some of the faces of those people. Their families have posted their pictures on social media,er desperately seeking information about what has happened to them. Their fear is they are dead or as has become increasingly clear, they have been taken hostage by hamas. Now, among them is noah aggamani. She was just 20 years old dancing at the Music Festival hours before the massive attack. This is the moment when she is kidnapped. Manhandled on a motorbike and driven across the desert, a friend of hers told sky news it is her on the bike. Arms outstretched she begged her captors not to kill her. Later a video was released appearing to show her sat on her own, drinking some water. We do not know exactly where that is. Her father spoke to the media. Translator what can i say . All my life since she was born i tried to protect her and hug her and support her and love her, and here at this difficult moment at least cheer her up. I couldnt offer her a hand. Reporter a British National jake marleau was working at the festival as a security guard. We havent heard from him since about Early Morning yesterday. What i understand is there were rockets that fired over that party, and they were in an attempt to try and evacuate partygoers from the venue. Reporter by the way, ill be bringing you this program a little later, israel hamas war, from jerusalem. Thats at 9 00 tonight, uk time here on sky news. Ill be back from jerusalem in the coming hours, but for now back to kaye in london. Okay, mark. Thank you very much indeed. Lets tell you whats happening in liverpool. Its the Labor Party Conference. I asked whether it was appropriate for the Palestinian Ambassador to the uk to appear alongside the chattel Foreign Secretary. I dont know. I havent heard those remarks, but they are totally unacceptable. We disagree with them entirely. Would you employ david not to share a stage with him. Look, i dont know what davids schedule is. I dont know whether this man is at our conference. But david has been very clear and unequivocal about Labor Support for israel, for the people of israel, their right to defend themselves, their right to protect civilians, their right to get hostages back. Weve been absolutely categorical about that. Mari and ed standing by. What did you make of what she had to say . Speech of the day. Everybody in this Conference Center will be waiting to hear what she says. But interestingly, kaye, when you asked her about that potential appearance of the Foreign Secretary alongside the Palestinian Ambassador to the uk who said on sky news that the attacks from hamas on israel had been coming, and whether david was still very much going to be standing on a platform with the ambassador at a conference event, she couldnt confirm whether that was going to go ahead or not, and i think the longer the ambiguity around whether david was going to be appearing with that ambassador or not would potentially start to create a bit of a vacuum, a bit of doubt. I think the danker for the labor party right now is making sure they show theyre not wavering at all in any way when it coms to support for israel. What matters is in the next few days, will we see any descenting voices, any hard left tight pl ps at this conference sticking their head above and making waves . If we do, we could all start to see the party starting to slowly fray. I think Party Discipline on the attacks on israel will be a huge massive Talking Point and one to watch here in liverpool. Thank you. Ed also standing by. Le ed, good morning. Good morning. It is really the point here. This was always, you know, even before the events for the last few days, this was an opportunity as far as labor was concerned to try to show they were the government in waiting and thats, i think, the impression that were expecting to get from the speech from the chancellor coming up later today and indeed the speech that will be done tomorrow. Its about laying out part of the plan. Whats going to be interesting is comparing it to the conference, the conservative conference last week. Where is last week . A lot of it was about to some extent the political chaos, the narrative to bring things back under his control. It was also about canceling things like hs 2 and plans to change it to zero, kind of pushing back the deadline to eliminate petro cause for sale. Now here in liverpool, the labor plan and the labor intention is instead of canceling things to try and introduce new plans, and its kind of interesting that the particular thing that theyre focusing on today, and well hear more about it, its about changing planning rules. Going to be interesting. Its about potentially bringing that 2035 deadline back to 2030 as well. It is about growth, and that is the interesting thing. We are hearing more from the labor party about their plans to be proactive with the economy some would say. The conservative Party Last Week said it was about entrenching, now its about building the economy. Obviously its against the backdrop of whats happening in gaza and israel and some pretty torrid times in the bond markets as well. Theres lots of noise understandably. But the noise they want to give is no matter what the noises are, we are the safer pair of hands and obviously youll be able to judge for yourself whether you believe that. But it will be interesting to watch that speech coming up at 12 00. Interesting, too, to see who introduces her. Around this Conference Hall at the moment, so many businesses around the country, lobby groups as well, everybody is hit. Its more bustling because a lot of people see this may well be the government this time next year, and they want a part of it. Okay. Ed and also mari, thank you. Just hearing that Virgin Airways are considering their best course of options when it comes to flights to tel aviv. We heard from wizz air earlier today, they have postponed their flights given what happened on saturday morning. Virgin says theyre considering their options right now. Well get more of that. If you are getting ready to make that journey, i think the best thing to do is check before you leave home. Meantime, p metro bank is looking to shore up mortgages. Theyve been trying to raise new capital. Some 325 Million Pounds, some 150 million of that is via an issue of new shares, and theres also been a debt issue of 175 Million Pounds. In addition to that metro bank has refinanced some of its recent borrowings. The downside is theyll be paying a high rate of interest. In terms of the equity, colombias second richest man, he has raised his stake in metro bank. Hes put up a Million Pounds. He now merges as the biggest single shell with a 53 shareholding. So definitely good news as far as the market is concerned. The new shares were offered at a big, big discount of the Closing Price on friday. A few moments ago, metro banks have risen up 23 on the day. So big, big move there. The market likes it. For now. Well see you at 11 30. See you. Thanks indeed. Rachel reaves, well be hearing from at 12 00. In show at 11 30 today. Im hearing the latest from the Reuters News Agency that bear with me i can tell you that the Israeli Military has reestablished control of communities, however, they go on to say there are still pockets of resistance from hamas fighters. Next in israel, the deputy chief with us. Good morning again. Gentlemen, let me ask you, first of all, who can hamas rely on. Well, theyre on their own, i think, at the moment. They have had a lot of support from iran. I dont think iran was behind this. Indeed u. S. Secretary of state blinken has said theres no evidence of that, but they supplied them with equipment and training. But right now i think theyre on their own, which is where they want to be. They are the flag bearers as they see it for the palestinian cause. How long. There are a lot of people who are sympathetic and support hamas with the support of the palestinians. The palestinian cause is very deeply split. And the fact that hamas is a sunni Military Terrorist Organization with iran makes it difficult, but i think as lord ricketts said, the scale and the type of the atrocities make it very difficult for anybody to parlay behind and everybody will be conscious of both the israelis, and the slail allies will look very carefully at who publicly supports this. How surprised are you, shocked perhaps maybe, that this happened 50 years after the start of the cold war. Yes. Im very shocked. This is a deeply traumatic offense. It will have implications in all directions. They invest a significant amount of money not only in their armor, armory, soldiers, et cetera, but also in the security and defense. What happened. Yes. They have a renowned Intelligence Service and a very powerful military, and the iron dome to catch missiles. They thought they were securing their own people. Thele invisit it of the Israeli Forces has been part of their brand. This has been a shock. How did it happen . There will be a reckoning, an inquiry. Somehow they missed the signs of a major operation being planned in gaza involving large numbers of people, large numbers of equipment, and there will be repercussions from that. As you said earlier, kay, its a shock, and we will all suffer the consequences of this failure of intelligence. Israeli intelligence is always backed up by american intelligence. They have to deal with the tactical implications, but as lord ricketts sads, theyll have to look at how they failed so badly. Im intrigued about the hostages and what they plan to do as far as thats concerned. We have take about Hoss Teenages taken from Israeli Soldiers that were used to barter and returned to israel, but this time theyve got more than a hundred. They cant hide them in gaza, one would think, for any significant amount of time. Theyre using them on an emotional level for now. Where do you see that going . Well, this is part of what theyve done, which has surprised everyone. I suppose they see two things. First of all, it complicates an israeli problem with a Ground Invasion. No doubt well see a Ground Invasion. Freeing the hostages is very difficult. Theyll no doubt use them as human shields. That will make things much more difficult. Secondly potentially as Bargaining Chips against return of palestinian prisoners held by israel. If they could pull that off, it would be another sign they were now the dominant Palestinian Organization and had put the palestinians on authority right back at the very beginning. The big question is what happens in gz after an Israeli Ground invasion. Whos going to govern gaza . Theyll try to buy a certain amount of reduction of violence. That has broken. If hamas are going to rule, the Palestinian Authority dont have the authority to, the International Community, u. N. , cant do it. How will they keep gaza safe in the future . Interesting because hamas to an extent sold themselves attacking the israeli stage or Security Operators or the Israeli Defense force, but the attacks on the israelis and the young israelis at the super know va were supporters of a Peace Settlement in the middle east, and theyre gloating on youtube. And often when they took people like gilead, they treated him quite well. But one gets the impression opinions over the years have hardened, but i feel hamas treatment of hostages is really going to push them more in the direction sort of the behavior we expected from al qaeda and others, the very, very hardlined fundamental list terrorists like the jihadees. Whats next. What next indeed . What next on palestine policy. The International Community have let this slip right off the agenda. The americans have been very focused on this issue of israeli Peace Settlements with other arab nations. The abraham accords, morocco, sudan, and joe bidens piece of action was is supposed to land a saudi deal. Saudi has been pretty negative toward israelis responsibility toward this. Theres a problem there and a problem for netanyahu. Well see what Israeli Politics decides on that, but the policy of aggressive settlement policy in the west bank, talking about annexation, which would completely end the palestine jan state, all of that leaves the palestinians desperate, and what weve seen here, completely unacceptable by hamas is partly tapping into a deep sense of desperation in the palestinian community. Netanyahu has done nothing to give palestinians any sense of what their future is. The politicians, if you can call hamas that, we see bloodshed. And on a Grander Skashlgs Israel saying they havent seen anything like this since 9 11. There is a worry. Israel has a very strategic can problem. There is worries in northern israel on the borders of hezbollah, heavily supported by iran. Theres an issue about what might happen in the west bank with 2 million palestinians. So the wider regional ripples will really sort of begin to involve a lot of players. We still have got a lot of civil war in israel, issues to do with syria. The issues are people like saudi arabia oar ee or egypt that Sha The Borders is going to fold up. The scale, of course, is much higher than its been in a number of Gaza Palestinian israeli conflict. Thank you for joining us on the program. Of course, weve heard from our Prime Minister talking about hamas, describing it as a terrorist organization and the British Government offering their support to the israeli people with the israeli flagle. Whats going to happen next . The weather. Next, it will be warm, scotland will be dry for a time, but there will be more rain tomorrow. Mostly mild now, but rather murky. Central britain has some patchy rain, inland fog in its sight as well. Still to come on the program for you, israels Defense Force admitting there is still pockets of resistance from hamas fighters in the south of the country. Mark will have more. Rk will hav. Of resistance from hamas of resistance from hamas hello again. You are watching the Breakfast Show on sky news. Mark standing by in jerusalem. Mark, the death toll in the region there continuing to rise this morning. Reporter yeah, truly horrific figures, kay. To shed more light on whats going on in Southern Israel, im joined by the International Spokesperson for the israel Defense Force. Thank you very much for being with us. I wonder if i can begin by asking you about reports there are still hamas gunmen at large in Southern Israel as we speak. Is that true . Hi, mark. Thanks for having us on, and kay. Theres actually been a little shift. We had about two or three hours ago we had open areas where was felt robust fighting going on. I think weve managed to gain control right now. Hopefully it was supposed to happen yesterday. We gained control. We cant deny there are still terrorists inside israel. There are still small pockets of exchange, but in general, weve more or less gained control of the community. Right as we speak and we just got updated again, theres still small pockets of exchange. Our Special Forces are engaging, but in the end, in general right now, all of these locations, there were multiple communities packed with hundreds of terrorists, weve more or less managed to stabilize and reorganize the arena. Reporter but are israelis still being killed in Southern Israel. Again, i can get back to you on that, mark. Right now weve managed to stabilize it. There are still fire fights and a level of fog, but we are focused now on taking care of the terrorists. It was important for me to come on and say weve more or less stabilized the control and all the communities are in gaza. There are two last small pockets of people fighting. I dont know if theres people who have got shot or killed. It could happen. I mean we have dozens, hundreds of israelis, civilians and soldiers, killed. The scope of this is at an epic scale. Reporter let me ask you this then. Are all hostages inside gaza, or are there, to your knowledge, hostages being held by hamas gunmen inside Southern Israel . Before i came on, there was one Hostage Situation inside one of the scenes. Im sure hopefully it will be resolved in the upcoming hours. Again, there will be more terrorists in israel. They came in the hundreds, but right now i think thats more or less as much as i can tell you with an update of whats going on in the field. Were now focusing on the security. Reporter sorry to interrupt. On the issue of securing the border, to your knowledge, have more hamas gunmen come across the border in the last few hours . Have they continued to come across the border . So weve secured most of the breaching points. There could be a potential for them to come through. Theres areas where we ville were securing a small amount of breach points with Ground Vehicles and air coverage. They could have come through. Were still looking at other options for them to enter into israel. We cant deny that. Im seeing things in israel about tunnels. Were trying to make sure our border is secured. Also the ground and the sea. Reporter colonel, were 48 hours after this attack. You cant be happy with how its gone. You cannot be happy as the most powerful military in the middle east that there are still hamas gunmen loose in Southern Israel israel. Mark, again, were not happy. Its been a barbaric act. Ive been told the largest number of jews and israelis killed since the holocaust. The scope was something different. It was a surprise attack. Again, failures are what were not happy about. Were going to sit down and learn what happened here. Right now, mark, were focused on getting back control. Reporter but what would you be saying now to those who say it is the Defense Forces job to defend civilians . What would you say to the families of those who have died or been kidnapped. Were not regular army, mark. This is the peoples army. Were not a deployable army. This is the army of the people. We have managed to mobilize 300 thousand reservists. Everybody has come to join. The army is the people and the people are the army. Theres no difference. Were one entity. But israel prides its of its intelligence and security and defense. Let me ask you one final question. The hostagetaking, dozens of hostages inside gaza. How complicated does this make any Ground Invasion to come . Im not going to talk about our plans right now. I hope that we will bring Disruptive Solutions to solve this operational scenario, but as you see and as you saw last night, we are striking in a very severe matter hamas targets. The Hostage Situation is a hard one, mark. Well solve it though. Reporter yeah. But there are those who have said a former Israeli Intelligence officer told me yesterday that any is rah i will Military Action Inside Gaza and there are reports today you are drafting 300,000 reservists, a move more than ever before, that any israeli action in gaza would be regardless and he used that word regardless of there being hostages there. The reservists are not the spokesmen for the army. Theyre there to stabilize internal issues and also to ramp up our defenses in the northern arena. We have also an American Battle group not focused on gaza but basically with a message from the american central command, commanders saying, this is showing our support to our brothers. Again, it was important for me to mention also to the Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary, we are very thankful for the support were getting British Public and leaders. Reporter right. But to this point, all the leaders in gaza and hostages, how do you feel about there being hostages in gaza with is reeling about to launch a major Ground Invasion. Are you asking me how i feel passionately . I feel worried, concerned. Were here as i said before as the peoples army. One of the kids that grew up in my house and one of the best friends of my kid, i got a message from my daughter, just declared dead. So, again, we are ready. We are united. And were going to do what we need to do to get the idea back on track. Reporter isnt it the truth that the assault that is now taking place on gaza and your Prime Minister has said he wants to reduce many areas to rubble, isnt the truth that gaza is a crammed, tiny area of 2 million people, and it is simply impossible to avoid civilian casualties on the operation that is underway and about to take place . Mark, you know, one of the tragedies is up till last week, we had a paradigm. We had the harrahs crossing, we expanded that for people to work, okay, contained. If they didnt do this, this wouldnt have started. We have to keep that in mind. People in gaza, we will do everything we can to minimize Collateral Damage and that people are not involved. Well notify people if were attacking an area, but the hamas have entrenched themselves reporter but 400 people have already been killed. 400 civilians have already been killed in gaza, colonel. Also 400 terrorists, more than that, have been killed in gaza and more will be killed. Well do everything we can minimize, but, again, were going to act severely against hamas targets. Reporter is it your aim to eradicate the hamas leadership in gaza . According to the Prime Minister and our political influence, were going to do everything we can to degrade their military capabilities. Thats all i can say at this stage. This is an ongoing thing. It will be defined. Reporter i just want to ask you about the possible escalation of all of this. How concerned are you by hezbollah who are based in lebanon to the north of israel, gaza, of course, to the south . How worried are you about hezbollah entering this war . Were concerned. Thats why weve ramped up our defenses in the north. Also our defensive capabilities in the north. Weve done some tactical redeployment out there. Were ready for hamas to come in. I think theres been strong messaging for them that it will not be worth their while to go into this fight. I mentioned before the american capability moving in here, i mean, we basically the north is an iranian front. Israel is an iranian proxy. I believe they wont come into this. Hopefully they wont make that mistake. Reporter what do you think the likelihood is of a wider regional war . Id like to say there was a call for all the arabs to join in. That hasnt happened yet. When he made his statement a day ago, that hasnt happened yet. Were seeing little small events, but right now the focus is on the gaza strip and readiness of all arenas. Reporter right. The focus is on the gaza strip and we know 48 hours from this, hamas groups are still out there. This is an unthinkable things that has happened in Southern Israel. Do you admit the ideal has failed the people of israel . I have said before, the idea is israel. We only have one military. We dont have the privilege to give ourselves points. This nation is determined. We could have done a better job. Were going to overcome this. It was good talking to you. Reporter no, we can bring to to an end. Colonel hecht, i appreciate you coming on the program. Thanks very much, indeed. So well have much more from jerusalem after the break. Salem. Hi, im jason. Ive lost 228 pounds on golo. Changing your habits is the only way that gets you to lose the weight. And golo is the plan thats going to help you do that. Just take the first step, go to golo. Com. Hello, everybody. Youre very welcome to join us on the Breakfast Show with sky news. These strikes have taken place just down the road from us. Three Government Departments from today for five days, all this week, theyll be cleaners, Security Guards, and support staff walking out of these three Government Departments for energy, business, and science. And this is the second time theyve held a weeklong strike. The last one was in the beguning of september. As you might expect, its all about paez. Theyve been offered a raise of 2. 2 . Compared to inflation, its nothing. Theres a big Facilities Management firm and they want them to get back to the negotiating table. Earlier he spoke to the pcss national president. We can hear from them. Well, our members provide cooking, cleaning, and Security Services to some of the richest businessmen in the world, and at the same time, theyre employed by iss and have a payoff of 2. 2 less the inflation running at 6. 8 . Clearly they also work alongside people who are looking at much bigger increases. Many of them are very low paid members anyway. Many of them work two or three jobs just to get by. This is a reasonable dispute to try to get them a reasonable pay increase. So separately to that, today, Security Guards at the House Of Commons will be balloted on whether or not they should hold a strike, too, in the near future, a jd if they do decide to walk out, there will be restricted access. That means mps among those having to wait to get inside. Theyre rumbling on. It feels like theyre getting closer and closer to the heart of the government. Thanks. A couple of other domestic stories to tell you whats been happening in scotland over the weekend. Floods have brought Shah Voc To Scotland over the weekend. Parts of the country saw a months worth of rain in 24 hours and severe flood warnings including risk to life which remains in place in some areas. Its been compared to the infamous Beast From The East storm. Many have enjoyed the warmest start to october in five years. Schools are shut and flights have been canceled as a typhoon brought heavy rain and strong gails. The storm left Hundreds Stran Ed underground overnight. More than 420,000 jobs have been lost since 2010, sparking a fear that the economy may be in serious decline. Looking at the weather. Eathr the next couple of days mostly very warm. Scotland will return to dry, but there will be more rain. Its murky to the north and the coast in the west while Central Britain has some patchy rain. Still to come for you, Wilfred Frost will bring you the latest on the war between israel and hamas. The latest death toll has now reached 1,100, and we are being told that that number is likely to increase still further. The idea, israel Defense Force say there are still some holes in the fence between israel and gaza. Ence between israel and gaza really. This is an attack no one saw coming. Is it
