NEW DELHI: The Union home ministry, taking serious view of the outbreak of alleged political violence in West Bengal after declaration of poll results, on Monday asked the state government for a detailed report on post-election targeting of political workers belonging to the Opposition camp.
Sources in the home ministry said the Mamata Banerjee government has been asked to send a factual report “as soon as possible” on the incidents of political attacks and resulting damage/casualties across West Bengal since Sunday, along with the action taken by the state police.
West Bengal state BJP president Dilip Ghosh, who called on the Governor Jagdeep Dhankar on Monday to complain against the targeting of BJP workers in the state, said that post-election violence in Bengal had claimed 9 lives in the past 24 hours.
