Mayoral candidate, 29, survives assassination attempt in Mexico where 88 politicians have been killed ahead of the June midterm elections
Francisco Pancoatl was shot twice in the hand while driving his car in Puebla, Mexico, on Thursday night
The 29-year-old is the ruling National Regeneration Movement party's nominee for the mayoral seat in the city of Ocoyucan
Pancoatl wrote on his Facebook account that he expects to be hospitalized for several days 
A total of 88 politicians who held or sought office have been killed since September 2020 when campaigning for the June midterm elections began
