“She was a guest in your house and she was your partner’s sister. She had looked up to you as a big brother,” a judge told the man (file photo).
A man who raped his sister-in-law said he was so disgusted at himself that he’d take the death penalty.
The 36-year-old man was jailed for almost five years by Judge Stephen Clark at Hamilton District Court on Monday.
He can’t be named, to avoid identifying the woman he raped after she fell asleep on his couch in January 2021.
He had drunk “far too much” that night and was remorseful and gutted, defence lawyer Glen Prentice said.
