The National Highways Authority of India has given local officials the power to spend up to INR2.5m ($33,000) on road improvement and rectification work in order to ensure repairs are made quickly. Project directors have been authorised to undertake rectification work at accident-prone spots identified by police chiefs or district road safety committees, with up to INR1m available for each spot. The move will enable officials to take immediate steps to ensure that road rectification measures are taken on an immediate basis, the NHAI said.
