On the morning after the United States reported more than 3,100 deaths in a single day, a new record, a government advisory panel convened Thursday to decide whether to recommend the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for approval. It’s one of two vaccine candidates on the verge of being cleared by the Food and Drug Administration, which would mark a milestone in the country’s battle against covid-19. A non-binding vote is expected this afternoon.
