People were asked to leave their houses after a main road in Newport city centre was cordoned off by police on Friday night.
Commercial Road and Dolphin Street were closed for a number of hours due to an incident on Friday night, April 9.
In a statement, Gwent Police said Commercial Road was shut between the junctions of Albert Street and Bolt Street.
Residents said they were told to leave their homes at around 5pm.
