“We have received repeated assurances that the mechanism in place will not affect the vaccine shipments that are coming to Canada,” Ng told members of the Commons Standing Committee on International Trade.
Conservative trade critic Tracy Gray asked Ng if she had anything in writing from her European counterparts.
“You only have a verbal assurance is what you are saying today,” Gray said.
“I have multiple assurances through myself and through minister Hajdu, and from the prime minister that vaccine shipments to Canada will not be affected by this mechanism,” Ng replied.
Bottom line, all of those assurances were in phone calls and Ng has nothing in writing. That’s a problem says lawyer and international trade specialist Cyndee Todgham Cherniak.
