Letters from readers: You must be kidding?

You must be kidding?
While sitting around during quarantine, it can be fun to think of some of the really bad ideas in history. Consider, among others, the Ford Edsel, licorice ice cream, the Maginot Line, leaded gasoline, taking rabbits to Australia or Smell-o-Vision.
It is also interesting to contemplate bad ideas for the future. How about naming Mike Pence as Commissar of Enlightenment? Donald Trump the Viceroy of Veracity? Or putting Mitch McConnell in charge of congressional progress? But the worst one yet is the idea of bringing the Summer Olympics, during a lethal pandemic, to Florida. Unfortunately, that last one isn’t a joke, as Florida’s CFO, Jimmy Patronis, the newly appointed Dean of You-Must-Be-Kidding, has actually proposed – out loud – such an idea. We had hoped such silliness had ended with Trump wanting to buy Greenland.
