ISLAND .. BUT AS OUR DANIEL ROBINSON EXPLAINS .. IT ISN'T WITHOUT CONTROVERSY. IT'S BEEN YEARS IN THE MAKING -- BUT -- SOON THIS ABANDONED PUBLIX HERE - WILL BE TORN DOWN TO MAKE WAY FOR THE NEW HARRIS TEETER. BUT - ONE LOCAL BUSINESS OWNER SAYS SHE'S NOT ON-BOARD. "THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT IT, IT IS WHAT IT IS. FOR PAT HARVEY PALMER - SHE'S SEEN THE AREA GROW FOR MORE THAN A DECADE. "WELL THE GROWTH OF LADY'S ISLAND IS UNBELIEVABLE AND WITH A HARRIS TEETER SETTING ITS SIGHTS ON LADY'S ISLAND - SHE SAYS IT'S ONLY GOING TO BRING MORE PEOPLE TO THE AREA. "A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T LIKE IT, THEY SAY WHAT HAPPENED TO OUT SWEET LITTLE OLD BEAUFORT THE WAY IT WAS. BUT YOU CAN'T STOP DEVELOPMENT, YOU JUST CANT. THE NEW GROCERY STORE, CONVIVENCE STORE AND GAS STATION - WILL SIT ON THE BUSY CORNER OF THE SEA ISLAND PARKWAY AND SAMS POINT ROAD. "IT'S A BLESSING THAT WE HAVE THIS NEW BUSINESS BUT THE BUSINESS IS COMING IN BECAUSE WE HAVE DRAMATIC GROWTH ACROSS THE SEA ISLANDS**} HOWEVER -- MAYOR STEPHEN MURRAY SAYS HE ALONG WITH OTHERS ARE EXCITED FROM THE NEW STORE...AND THAT THE CITY AND COUNTY HAVING BEEN WORKING ON HOW TO HANDLE THE GROWTH IN THE AREA. "THEY PERCEIVED SOME FEEDBACK FROM CITIZENS SO NOW THEY ARE WORKING WITH THE PLANNING STAFF TO MAKE SURE THAT WHAT COMES OUT OF THE GROUND OVER THERE IS REFLECTIVE OF LADY'S ISLAND'S VISION AND SOMETHING THE RESIDENTS CAN BE PROUD OF" WHILE HARVEY- PALMER ISN'T LOOKING FORWARD TO THE INCREASE IN TRAFFIC. SHE SAYS THE GROCERY STORE - WOULD STILL BE AN ASSET. "THEY WILL HAVE BUSINESS FROM NOT JUST LADY'S ISLAND AND ST HELENA BUT, BEAUFORT AND OTHER AREAS. IT HAS GOTTEN MORE UPSCALE THEN WHAT WE'RE USED TO. RIGHT NOW - THE DEVELOPMENT IS STILL BEING FINALIZED AND A PROJECTED OPENIN
