Personally i dont mind the heat, when i run, but running in the humidity, no. It is sticky. Yes. No pun intended. That is what i was going for. It is not a bad morning out there, even just spectating for the rock and roll Half Marathon. If you know anybody running make sure you help them stay hydrated throughout the race. That will be something folks need to be worried about. When we have warm, humid air out there you get dehydrated a little bit faster. We will talk about what we are experiencing here in philadelphia which is a little bit of fog. We have jose churning in the Atlantic Ocean at this point still down to the south of philadelphia, it is right now 500 miles off the coast of Cape Hatteras and 500 miles from bermuda and still a category one storm. So again, still packing quite a punch, it is a very powerful system as just off the coast, of the u. S. Taking a look at our computer model spaghetti plot here it travels north through the next couple of days, good news is models keep it off of the coastline, and it has been trending a little bit further out to sea in the last 24 hours. That is some good news. We will see those, further away from the land and will curve away, as we get toward the end of the forecast period which is toward the end of the next week. So overall right now our trend to keep it off of the coastline but effects will be seen from new jersey and back down into southern delaware. We do need to keep an eye on it. We will give you a if you will look at those impacts in a bit storm scan three shows us some light showers in Lancaster County to start the day out. We have maybe a little bit more moderate rainfall where we see orange and yellow. Be careful west of the city this morning. Temperatures go from the 60s to around 72 degrees by 9 00 a. M. We have fog out there. If you are traveling this morning make sure you have give yourself a little bit of extra time. We will be up to 85 degrees by 3 00. Eightyone at 5 00. That is when we could see a stray shower, isolated thunder shower, jan in the second half of the day and we will give you another update with jose locally in just a bit. We will get back to you, thanks, matt. This morning thousands of runners are taking on 13. 1 miles, the rock and roll Half Marathon is underway right now. Eyewitness News Reporter anita oh is live near art museum where race kicked off just a short time ago, anita, good morning. Reporter good morning, jan i have to tell you that the energy here, excitement you can feel it in the air even with this weather today. The last group just took the line. These are runners crossing the 3mile mark here by the art museum. They will be doing an entire run throughout kelly drive, arent, all the way down Martin Luther king drive and, of course, for a very great cause. I will bring in vince, executive director of American Association for Cancer Research. So mitch tell us you why do this and why thinks so important to you. Well, good morning anita. We have a number of run their run for our research team. They are raising dollars for research. The a American Association of Cancer Research has 37,000 members all over globe with one specific focus to find cures to cancer, through funding, science. Many of these runners out here are not only running but they are spending time raising dollars and volunteering for the organization. Other thing this is great fitness and fitness is a wonderful form of prevention. We are all about that. That is all part of the mission. Reporter you have made a career out of this you are a runner yourself. What are stories you hear that inspire you. Amazing. There is a two time cancer survivor out here running today, young lady by the name of sarah happy, shes out here running. She run 59k yesterday. She took the challenge. Shes running half mar then today. What inspires me is somebodys spirit and their wonderful energy, enthusiasm for trying to give back, because shes appreciative of the doctors. Shes appreciative of the scientists and researchers and what they have done and really motivates me to go out and train and try to do my best as well. So wonderful. Cheese steaks may not good for the heart but they are for the soul. Why do you love to come to philadelphia and bring the race here. Well, first of all philadelphia is the hometown of American Association of Cancer Research so what better way to promote something really positive. Promote our great city, city of brotherly love. This race is a great tradition , people here in the Delaware Valley love to get involved and in runs and activities like this so to me it is a no brainer for us. Makes sense to promote the brand of the a ac r. Thanks for being with us. A great cause. Coming up in the next half an hour we will bring you a very inspiring story that you do in the want to miss. Live along the art museum, im anita oh for cbs3 Eyewitness News. See you at 8 30, thank you. Still to come on cbs3 Eyewitness News this morning , how you can help local Senior Citizens in our area from going hungry. We will tell but a special Program Giving out food to help feed them and their families. Also ahead this was the scene after a sports car slammed into a crowd of people at a car show, the terrifying crash, was caught on camera. More on this scary moment when parachuter flies on field of the Football Game but misses his mark, we will show e3 y2e3ty y5yy you each drive a ford all yes. Ght . Im going to show you a next generation pickup. Awesome. Lets do this. The bed is made of highstrength steel, which is less susceptible to punctures than aluminum. Stronger the better. And best of all, this new truck is actually all laughing oh my. The current chevy silverado. Current chevy owners and lessees get a total value of tenthousand, six hundred dollars. Or, 0 financing for 72 months on this silverado all star. Find new roads at your local chevy dealer. Now 11 people were injured , some seriously when that porsche crashed in the crowd. Driver was not injured. You can see him getting out of the car there. So far no word on any charges, but eyewitnesses say right before that crash the driver was showing off, and going too fast when he who control of that vehicle. Well, it was a very rough landing for parachute jumper at a college Football Game, take a look, navy seal parachuter was trying to land on the field at byu wisconsin game in utah, but his approach was just way too fast and slammed right into the wall behind the end zone. They goes. That parachute ended up in the crowd. Neither jumper nor anyone in the crowd was hurt. Incredible. Wild video there, matt but not expecting any wild weather here in our area. At lee not today, we are keeping an wild weather in the atlantic. We had three tropical systems, one including help say, the other two are still out in the opened ocean but maria can pose a problem. Not so much, right now, anyway to the continental u. S. But we want to look at maria because it could go through northern part of the Lesser Antilles and across puerto rico. As we know as irma made its track to the west it went right overtop of areas like saint martin and barbuda and both of those island still reeling from that Hurricane Irma that came across. Tropical storm maria, unfortunately taking aim at northern side of the Lesser Antilles. Help say is spiraling off the carolina coastline 500 miles off the coast of Cape Hatteras and will continue its northward trend as we guy through this workweek and we will feel effect is here across the new jersey shore and down into parts of the southern delaware as well, probably in the tuesday to wednesday time frame. Right now, it sits as a category one storm 80mile an hour sustain wind. Central pressure coming in at 973, that has not changed that much, in the last couple of days. We have been sitting there. That is why we have a category one storm. Our National Hurricane center track continues to bring this northward. Good news as i showed you model runs a little bit ago, National Hurricane center forecast track follows those. Keeping it off the coast line in the last 24 hours the trend has been to keep it, well off the coast of new jersey, and again, that is good news for us. Now with the cone, of course, it could track further west toward the earning, that could bring the effects closer to new jersey but it could also end up going further out to sea and that would make it better for us. At this point into that tuesday and wednesday time frame, that is when south jersey, and points toward, delaware could be feeling the impact of jose. Now what exactly are we talking about with this down the shore . Were already seeing rough surf and we are seeing, those strong, rip currents that we need to be worried about especially with the lack of life guard out there at the end of the summertime season, the rough surf and rip currents really, add an extra problem. Now, beach erosion could be seen, we will get a little on shore flow as this tracks to the north and goes past us here in that tuesday to wednesday time frame. So beach erosion could be an issue, it is not massive beach erosion by any stretch of the imagination, minor coastal flooding is a possibility as well but areas like the back bay and areas that usually flood when we have issues, off the coast line, that is where we will see minor coastal flooding tuesday into wednesday and even further inland around philadelphia, central new jersey, we will get rain shower activity from jose, probably at best. Future weather today, mixture of sun and cloud from time to time. We will go with spotty showers , here and there, as we go through the night time hours tonight, fog, redevelops , and then it could pose a problem for us on our drive to work tomorrow. Do keep an eye out for that on monday morning, and monday afternoon a little bit more cloud cover and another chance for maybe a shower as well. Seven day forecast. Eightyfive today. That sunshine after the fog clears we could again see a shower or thunder shower later in the afternoon. Tomorrow we will go up to 38 to start off the workweek, a few showers continue on tuesday, and then were warm and muggy, all the way through the weekend, jan, fall officially starts on friday but it will in the feel like it, we will go with a high of 83 friday afternoon. It will feel like it soon enough, matt. Beautiful too. Ill say that. Thanks, matt. It is 8 17. Time to check the road. Lets go over to Amanda Mueller in the cbs3 traffic center, hi there, a manned. Hi jan, construction and event closures are the theme of this mornings drive. We have been following this all morning. We have an update this is a live look at 76 approaching the blue route. Left lane is blocked on the eastbound side between the pennsylvania turnpike toll plaza and blue route. Got news is the westbound side closures just cleared up and traffic is moving, as normal. Continuing with construction between, on going construction work has route one oxford bypass right lane, closed at church road on the southbound side, but this work is set to go on until september 21st. Oh, great. Reporter deborah isell has come to rely on this box of food. Each month the usda donated box is delivered to her Senior Housing community in germantown. My favorite is when we get spaghetti. Reporter she uses the food to supplement her pant try and feed her children and their children. Peanut butter for protein. Reporter she knows how important these supplies are. I wouldnt know what to do without them. They are an essential part of the senior living. Reporter need so great there is a wait list for the government box. Philabundance is now stepping in with a new program called pantry boxes through a grant from the ww Smith Charitable trust, 625 additional eligible seniors in philadelphia and Delaware County will now get this 15pound box of shelf safe food once a month. Philabundance says Program Helps a particularly Vulnerable Group of people. Trying to pay for your bills, trying to pay for your medical expenses, your prescriptions, food is one of the last things that seniors end up paying for when they have to stretch their budgets. Reporter but grand for pant try boxes only covers six months and while Pilot Program is getting rave reviews, more again ross donors are needed to keep the program going, not only that, even with the additional food boxes is there still a wait list. It goes to show that it is really helping fill that gap but that there is much larger need then there is supply at the moment. Diced domain owes for that spaghetti. Reporter as for deborah she volunteers and helping to organize and hand out to others, very same boxes, that have made a difference in hear life. It is very rye ward to go give back to the community as well, that is why i volunteer. She does a good job too. September is also Hunger Action month, philabundance is trying to raise 25 you this dollars to provide 50,000 meals for those in need in our area, to donate, just log on to philabundance. Org. But those people are being warned that water sewer and electricity are working intermittently. Meantime a Houston School flooded after Hurricane Harvey is getting back on track thanks to some help from Chester County preschoolers and kindergarteners. As Ukee Washington shows us in this weeks story of brotherly love, this is a tangible project that they can sianni feel. Reporter they are young but they understand what other children need and they understand brotherly love. God bless america reporter these singing preschoolers at Assumption Academy in stratford might in the know everything about hurricanes but they know the important stuff. It brakes up a lot of peoples houses in schools and buildings. Reporter they learned that when harvey blew in and rained on houston classrooms were damaged. It all got ruined. Things blow away. Reporter but help is on the way thanks to principal Patricia Welsh and power of facebook, Assumption Academy partnered with an Elementary School in the houston independent School District to collect school supplies, that school, bravard elementary got flooded and need to start over the principal explains. We are talking to them about how children can help children just because were little doesnt mean we cannot do good things. Reporter the principal says her 120 students have been eag lawyer collecting essentials. Colored pencils, glue sticks and all of the other stuff. Reporter drive just started and the first van is already full. We will send our supplies as we get them. That as we go through nighttime hours tonight partly cloudy skies, little bit of fog could redevelop as we head into our monday morning, and could affect our morning commute tomorrow, make sure that you stay tuned to Eyewitness News tomorrow morning for update on that and then you can see also a few more showers, that could develop, as we head through the afternoon hours on our monday, it doesnt look like we will have as much sunshine thomas what we will get to day so trying to get out and possibly enjoy that sunshine later this afternoon. As we will get to 85. It is a warm, muggy day, you compare this to where we should this be time of the year, again 85 for the high, we should be at 78, on friday, first day of fall, we should be still be in that mid zero sevens range but then quickly drops off through october and november we will get down in the 60s and 50s, very, very quickly. Heres jose, category one storm spiraling about 500 miles south of Cape Hatteras, it will travel northward, it should stay off the coast by a decent margin for us here in the northeast. We have already seen that as potential for a lit built of beach erosion with on shore flow, and then we will have minor coastal flooding, possibility especially in the back bay and those extra flood prone area, the further inland toward philadelphia we will go with a couple showers. We will keep an eye on Tropical Storm marina that could be a hurricane later today and takes aim right at Northern Edge of the Lesser Antilles areas that got hammered.
