The strip. The priority now needs to be to stop further civilian suffering. And here we need to find a way to quickly deescalate the situation. Israel is intensifying warnings of an intimate offensive by air, ground and sea following rampage by hamas in israel one week ago. Good evening. This saturday. Im cristina rendon. Is israels military warning Palestinian Civilians to evacuate south as it plans to move in order to root out hamas militants responsible for last saturdays attack on the country . We begin tonight with ktvu zac sos live in our studio with the latest. Zach. Yeah, cristina, the idf continuing to drop leaflets warning the regions population of more than 1 million palestinians to move south. Exactly when that ground offensive offensive is expected to take place, its still not known, but there is mounting concern by much of the population that there wont be enough time to evacuate as thousands of israeli troops continue to amass along the gaza border for an expected Ground Invasion targeting hamas militants. Hundreds of thousands of palestinians continue to flee to the southern part of the strip after initially being given a 24 hour window by the idf to evacuate. But the United Nations and the eus Foreign Policy chief, josep borrell, warning of a humanitarian crisis. The task is 1 Million People moving to the south in 24 hours is just impossible. The un reporting half of gazas population has been displaced. But life here is bad. There are no basics of life and nothing since we came here, our family has not had any food, no water or anything yet. Israeli while continuing to defend its military response following last saturdays terrorist attack by hamas, the idf accusing hamas of using civilians as human shields in gaza were palestinian Authorities Say more than 2000 are now dead. We didnt put those civilians there. They are not our enemy. We are not trying to kill or injure any civilians. We are fighting against hamas. That needs to be abundantly clear. Saturday, workers at an Israeli Military base faced with the grim task of identifying the bodies of more than 1300 People Killed by hamas. Given special religious permission to continue their work through the sabbath, a day when work is normally halted nationwide. And hamas, believed to have taken hundreds of others hostage. President biden speaking with the families of 14 Americans Still unaccounted for. Their going through agony, not knowing what the status of their sons, daughters, husbands, wives, children are. I assured them my personal commitment to do Everything Possible, Everything Possible to return, every missing american to their families. The us continuing to stand firmly behind israel, reportedly deploying a second us carrier to the region to join the uss gerald r ford. Secretary of state antony blinken. As addressing the conflict during diplomatic talks with saudi leaders on saturday. Hamas is not representative of the Palestinian People or their legitimate aspirations for the future. Hamas is a terrorist group. Its only agenda is to destroy the state of israel and to murder jews. And its important that the entire world see it as such. The priority now needs to be to stop further civilian suffering. And here we need to find a way to quickly deescalate the situation and while president biden, the us government, continue to stand firmly with israel, the mounting humanitarian crisis in gaza also certainly on the president s mind right now in a phone call saturday with palestinian president Mahmoud Mohamed Mahmoud Abbas and israeli Prime Minister benjamin netanyahu, the president pushing for humanitarian aid to be allowed to the region. Yeah, its really interesting to see all of this unfold. Of course, well be watching it closely. Zach, thank you. Well, people in all corners of the us expressing their opinions on the conflict in gaza. In washington, d. C, demonstrators turned out in the rain in Lafayette Square to voice their support for the palestinians. The Group American muslims for palestine, known as amp, says its expressing solid charity with the Palestinian People and demanding an immediate cease fire. Amp is also criticizing the Biden Administration for its support of israel. The demonstration comes as israel is gearing up for the next stage of its war with hamas. Here in the bay area, thousands gathered in San Francisco to march in support of palestinians, while others who had been stuck in the middle east for days finally made it home. Ktvu Bailey Ocarroll spoke with people from both groups. They could stop this today, thousands of people of all ages made their way to San Francisco to protest us Financial Aid to israel and to bring attention to the innocent palestinian lives being lost due to the israelhamas war. My family was originally displaced in 1948. Weve been through this before and we dont want to see it happen again. For us, eco, a San Francisco native, attended the rally with his daughters and wife. He says the biggest concern right now is that palestinians feel forgotten in this doesnt feel two sided. It doesnt feel like theres any humanity towards the palestinian us, towards the people of gaza. These children, these elderly. It just what we need from them is we need for them to see whats happening and call cause, you know, an end to this, an end to this genocide. Stop funding israel now eco and the others at the rally are calling on us officials to halt funding to the Israeli Government and military. According to al jazeera, in 2023, us military funding to israel topped 3. 8 billion. Its part of a record ten year, 38 billion deal that was signed by president obama back in 2016. But manny yekutiel, a San Francisco native and owner of mannys restaurant in the mission district, was stranded in israel, says that funding likely saved his life. Most of the people probably dont know what its like to have missiles being directed at your head. I now know what that feels like and im so glad that israel had its iron dome Defense System to protect people who are not part of the military from being killed by hamas terrorist attacks. So im very thankful you flew to tel aviv ten days ago to celebrate his dads birthday and nieces bat mitzvah. Three days in everything changed. What i felt and heard was about seven different groups of missiles being directed at the area that i was in in beit shemesh. I was in and out of bomb shelters. I saw children running and screaming and crying and parents covering them and trying to shelter them. He never expected to see the horrible scenes he witnessed in his lifetime, but says it puts life here into perspective. Live and i came from a country in a place, israel, where its all so complicated, its all so big. But there is a sense of family. There is a sense of connected ness and it would be easy to go through life and have those really deep connections with other human beings start to fray and weaken and fold and that would not be a life well lived. And now manny said that he traveled 90 hours to get home. He was on the state departments list for evacuation flights, but he was able to book a commercial flight on his own. He told me he will take the next few days to process what he just went through in israel in the newsroom, im Bailey Ocarroll, ktvu fox two news. Well have more on the situation in the middle east coming up, including the challenges for americans getting flights out of israel. Thats at 1030. And you can really tell he cares. Yes. Just an amazing individual. Right. And whats interesting, when you get awarded a scholarship, its usually a formal letter. You get in the mail and you say, read it. And this is great. He actually calls each recipe out and youre actually getting a friend. Hes going to keep calling you to make sure youre doing okay. So its just just hes done so much for the community thats wonderful. And you can find more information online. Yeah, thats right. Yeah. Its on our website if you want to learn more about the foundation or maybe contribute to it, its all there on ktvu. Com. I love it. Thanks. Great job, great story. I love the story. Wonderful. Thank you, mark. Thank you. And were talking about whether we are, i mean, were are like im thinking of the scholarship and yes, yes, yes. Moving on to weather. Yeah. Weather weathers looking pretty good here in the bay area. In fact, if you want to get outside tomorrow, we are expecting some cloud cover in the morning. Then clearing skies into the afternoon hours. Here is our view above the south bay this evening and well drop in some of the current numbers out there. Santa rosa, 57 livermore 62. Its actually fairly mild. San jose right now, 64 degrees. What about rainfall . We were talking about that chance and we had a little bit of some measurable rainfall last night into early this morning across portions of the bay area as we look ahead here, this is into next week and its still a fairly quiet forecast and maybe some drizzle point zero one. And theres actually a slight chance of a shower to favor the north bay. That will be on monday as another weak front moves in. Take a look here at the temperature trend, though. As you can see, not too much happening in the short term for sunday and actually cooling off into monday. But then we will y wednesday anda big rebound ins thursday. By thursday, the hottest locations approaching the lower 90 is just amazing here. In fact, take a look here. For a place like concord, 78 degrees on monday. A little bit of some warming on tuesday, wednesday, close to 90 degrees. And thursday, we will likely top 90 degrees and probably thursday should be the hottest day of the week. Heres a satellite where you cant see actually an atmospheric river, not here for the bay area, but up in the pacific northwest. So we have the clouds and the focus of the rainfall up to our north. Right now, though, we have the rain approaching eureka. Maybe cape mendocino. And then for us, the low clouds and fog and also a few high clouds have been pushing back into the bay. Well wake up to some gray tomorrow morning. Temperatures in the 50s to right around 60 degrees and then into the afternoon hours. There is the eventual temperature range, upper 60s to the 70s, warmest locations will be approaching the 80s. So this High Pressure wants to stick around somewhat for your sunday and its a nice one but were going have some cloud cover tomorrow morning and then skies becoming partly sunny into the afternoon. Heres that weak front that comes on board monday. Theyll definitely send in the clouds and the chance of a sprinkle or a light shower favoring the north bay. But it is only a slight chance. The main action will be up to our north. Heres a forecast models. We put this into motion. There you can see the cloud cover tomorrow morning, trying to mix up into the afternoon hours. And then on monday, well thicken up the cloud cover. Youll notice some rain definitely up toward eureka, right around cape mendocino. We have clouds here in the bay area and all that energy is close enough that we do have that slight chance of a sprinkle. Once again in your monday forecast. And once this system moves on out, we begin our next warming trend into next week. Take a look at the numbers for tomorrow, 60s, 70s, warmest locations will be approaching the lower 80s out toward concord , antioch and livermore tomorrow afternoon for your sunday. Heres a look ahead. Your five day forecast there you can see that slight chance of a shower into monday. Fair skies on tuesday. Well definitely have to keep an eye on fire danger by midweek, were going to have those at least the offshore winds develop. Probably not going to be strong wind event, but itll definitely have a big impact on temperatures. Look at this. By thursday, it could be a beach day, 80 degrees for the shoreline around the bay, upper 80s in the inland spots in the 90s, it looks like the heat wants to pay us a visit once again into next week.
