Claudine. Thank you so much. Patrol fog is there. Very shallow but its still there. The bases have come down up above that weve had a lot of tropical clouds. Well get more breaks in the clouds today, but its already mild to warm livermore and san jose 67. Warm degrees. Thats some pretty good activity here this morning, although it looks like its starting to kick out of the area. But from eastern solano to Contra Costa County, ive had some reports around concord. Also bay point, pittsburgh, brentwood, antioch, byron, out to Discovery Bay. Good line of thunderstorms, but its out towards tracy heading out to stockton, lodi, rio vista. Now its going to be hot today. Well get more breaks in the clouds. So 6070s by the water, 90 to 100 for those inland sal here. This time hes going to focus on the east bay. Steve, we have a lot of slow traffic on highway four this morning. Its become a lot slower. This is probably correlated with more people being in school these days and thats more people getting on the road early more than we had, lets say, last month. This is a look at 80 westbound beginning to slow down at elsa brandt and theres a small delay at the Richmond Bridge, which is kind of normal for this time on the 80 freeway. It looks okay in berkeley. When you get to the bay bridge, there is a backup that stretches out to about a 10 to 15 minute delay, 701. Lets get right back to the headlines. All right. Our time is 701. Donald trump facing yet another criminal indictment, the fourth indictment for trump so far this year. And the latest case, claudine, is from georgia. It accuses trump and 18 other people of conspiracy to unlawful change. The outcome of the 2020 election and keep President Trump in office. Fulton County District attorney fani willis announced the indictment late last night, wrapping up an investigation that went on for more than two years, rather than by abide by georgias Legal Process for election challenges. The defendants engaged in a criminal racketeering enterprise rise to overturn georgias president ial election result. The former President Trump is named in 13 counts. That includes the phone call made to georgias secretary of state, asking him to find enough votes to overturn joe bidens victory in georgia. I just want to find. 11,780 votes now among those whove been indicted, Donald Trumps attorneys, Rudy Giuliani and john eastman, former white house chief of staff mark meadows, and campaign attorneys Sidney Powell. All of them have been ordered to surrender by noon on friday, august 25th. All right. Here is a timeline for the pending trials for other indictments against donald trump. Our online coverage includes a link to the full indictment that you can read for yourself. All right. Our time is 703, starting today, authorities in hawaii plan to start releasing the names of the victims from the maui wildfire. 99 people are confirmed dead. At number could go higher as search teams and cadaver dogs have only covered about a quarter of lahaina. An estimated 2000 homes, businesses and other buildings have been destroyed. I understand that people want numbers. Its not a numbers game. Right now were at 99 souls and families, so were going to continue to do that. And there were several wildfires across hawaii, but the governor says of the line of fire is the most devastating. It is now 85 contained. Well maui is going to need help from people and organizations all over the us. And one Bay Area Group is raising money and collecting items all week. Lets go to ctvs james torres, joining us live with details about a large drive that is happening in San Francisco. Good morning to you, james. Claudine, good morning to you. Well, right now, were at the corner of north point and mason here this is coming off the bay bridge just past north beach, headed toward fishermans wharf. And you certainly cannot miss this 40 foot trailer here. And you see the sign in front of it. Donate here and injury to one is an injury to all that is a slogan. And the saying for the folks who are running the program here, this is all part of an initiative brought to you by the International Long horsemen and workers union. You see the setup that they have here at this corner, not just in the container, but they have a number of different some of these tote boxes as well, full of all kinds of supplies. You see bathroom supplies here, use shoes, sandals, socks, underwear, clothes, a number of different things, all sorts of supplies. Exactly what you would think of when you think of a Disaster Relief kind of response here. And i want to show you inside the trailer here on the side of it, there you see a sign thats full of signatures. Well wishes, prayers for a number of the victims over on hawaii here. And heres kind of how this all got started. We talked to some of the Union Members here, the Union Representing a number of dock workers throughout the bay area. Theyve connected with parallel unions and parallel dock workers over in hawaii who are telling them directly what it is they need. And ive shown you a number of the supplies there asking for. They say if you are bringing something and you need to choose something, maybe focus a little less on the water, focus a little more on the baby food, the Feminine Hygiene Products and clothes. Now, i had a chance to talk to the business agent for this union who also served as president in the past. And he says, why this is so important to get involved. The goal here is to fill this container to the brim, get this over to hawaii and bring another container here to start another drive. Itll be a long time and it will be a long need for the people over in hawaii who has nothing. We have everything in the United States. Okay. And this fire, the tour about is no good for anyone. And if youre headed out here this morning, theyre asking you to consider all sorts of supplies. You can see a full list of what theyre asking for. Its on our website right now at ktvu. And if you cant make it today, thats perfectly fine. The folks will be here until 8 00 tonight, but theyll also have this container here until friday evening. And then once it gets full and set off and sent to hawaii, theyll continue doing this again until the need they say is met. Were live this morning in San Francisco. Im james torres ktvu fox two news. All right, james, thank you. Time now. 707 today the man accused of fatally stabbing the founder of cash app will be charged. Here we see video of nino moment from an earlier court appearance. Now hes accused of killing bob lee in San Francisco back in april during his preliminary hearing, a judge said there is enough evidence against mo money for him to stand trial. But many being held without bail. If he is convicted, he could get life in prison. And also happening today, the San Jose City council will debate a proposal to create its own power company. Andre sr here now to explain how city leaders are looking at their options. Andre they certainly are, dave. Good morning to you. Matt mehan says todays vote is about the citys ability to create a utility company, including the Economic Impact. He says no final decision will be made before city leaders get a lot more answers to their questions. Even if it passes, the city is not committing itself to having a san jose power or a municipal utility. Like many bay area cities, san jose currently receives its power from pga. Matt mahan says one of the things the council will discuss today is whether creating a city operated utility will eliminate some of the delays in new construction projects, a move that could lead to cost savings as the state expands transmission lines into san jose. If we were to tap directly into those, we may have more direct control over our destiny in terms of prioritizing projects, ensuring they get connected to the grid faster. There could be some real benefits there. Demand for electricity is growing across the state, which explains the new transmission lines. Mehan says those lines are already planned to run through key parts of the city. The primary line were looking at would be coming down from new york through North San Jose near our Wastewater Treatment facility, which is a major energy use. Where would that come down past the airport . Another major user of energy down into the dirt on station area where we anticipate Downtown West eventually being built out. Well the mayor says while there are a lot of positive reasons to consider a san jose power company, he wants to make sure the city does not take on more responsibility than it and its taxpayers can handle. We asked pg officials for a reaction to san joses proposal to create its own power company, but have not yet heard back from them. Well send it back to you, claudine. All right, thanks, andre. Well, todays planned strike by thousands of San Jose City workers is on hold represent lives from the city. And the two unions have been meeting regularly. One of the unions tells us it has reached conceptual terms that will go to the city council today for review and approval. Workers, including librarians, emergency dispatchers, Animal Shelter techs, engineers and airport employees have been working without a contract since the end of june. The workers are demanding better pay parental leave and improved staffing, and traffic is flowing on the east shore freeway again after an overnight crash that left a ups truck perched on the top of the Center Divide on interstate 80. Take a look at that situation. This all happened around midnight. That truck hauling two trailers slammed into the Center Median and then ended up perched on that concrete divide. Crews had to bring in a large crane to fix it. That road only fully reopened just a few minutes ago. And right now, we do have a look at 710 of highway four westbound as youre driving out toward the willow pass grave. We do have some slow traffic there. Its been slow from about pittsburgh. Nothing unusual about this slowdown. I can show it to you on the map. And is pretty slow, but it does get better by the time you reach highway 242 and 680. Only has some minor slowing between concord and walnut creek. 80 is slowing. And also bronte, there is a backup at the Richmond Bridge as normal. And as you drive down to the bay bridge toll plaza, you will see some slow traffic at the toll plaza. Its not severe, but there is a backup of about ten minutes there. San mateo and dumbarton bridge look pretty good. Theyre crowded, but the traffic looks good over to the peninsula. Its 711. Lets go back to the desk. Okay, sal, thank you. Well, were moving harmful levels of forever chemicals from Drinking Water. Coming up, the one city leading the way to punish those accountable. And we have details of a 10 billion settlement. And growing criticism over mauis largest Electrical Service provider. Why the companys president and ceo is defending the decision to not shut down power lines when wind gusts hit over 80 miles an hour. Comcast business, powering possibilities. The wildfires in maui. But theres been criticism also of mauis biggest electric Service Provider for not shutting down power lines when the wind gusts reached 80 miles an hour. The president and ceo of hawaii electric is defending that decision and says there are also problems with pga Public Safety power shutoffs here in california. Most utilities dont have that program at. And its worth noting that even in places where this has been used, it is controversial. And its not universally accepted and its seen as it can be seen as creating a hardship for those customers that have medical needs that are higher risk. It would require coordination with First Responders. And as you have probably seen and maybe even reported, that the in lahaina, the electricity powers , the pumps that provide the water and so that was also a critical need during that time. Now, yesterday, the price of stock and Hawaiian Electric dropped out more than 30. And lets say thats because there are big concerns the company may have to pay large amounts to settle lawsuits already filed. And compared to pga, e Hawaiian Electric is a small utility search and Recovery Missions are intensifying in hawaii, and so are the efforts to house the thousands of displaced survivors who lost everything in that historic blaze. Foxs jake alexis is in maui with what crews are doing to help so many people and their animals overcome this trauma. Jake. Claudine. The death toll is climbing here in maui as search efforts press on. And even though supplies are pouring in, Officials Say the road to recovery could take several years. Over 1 Million Pounds of food has been delivered. Food water, diapers, baby formula are going out. Donations are flooding into wildfire ravaged maui, where the deadliest us blaze in over a century tore through the Historic Town of lahaina, destroying more than 2000 structures and killing at least 99 people. A number expected to rise as crews have only searched 25 of the affected area. The devastation inflicting trauma on many survivors. With licensed counselors arriving to the island to help people process their grief. I spoke to one gentleman who lost his home, his wife and kids and his vehicle. And as crews continue to try and locate the hundreds of people still unaccounted for. So do efforts to find the estimated 3000 pets that are also missing. Many injured animals are arriving at shelters needing emergency care. We have seen dogs that have essentially had their their paws all the way burnt down to the bone, but more help is on the way with members of the San Diego Humane Society heading to maui. You go there specifically because were trying to find animals to help them and you find animals and conditions that are you know, its very difficult to see. Hawaiis governor says the wildfire is roughly 85 contained. As crews look to put out the remaining hotspots claudine. All right, jake. Lex is reporting from maui this morning. Thank you so much for that update. Well, californias rob bonta is among 22 state attorneys general opposing a recent settlement in a case involving socalled forever chemicals that are found in Drinking Water that is the name given to potentially hazardous compounds that can exist for many years. The small city of stuart, florida, played a major role in a 10 billion settlement with a Company Three back in june. That followed a nationwide legal battle involving more than 100 local companies that claimed three was contaminating water supplies. In this case, the evidence was pretty overwhelming that by no later than 1983 and knew these chemicals were toxic , the epa has determined exposure to these chemicals can cause cancer and other Serious Health problems. Bonta is among the state attorneys general who want federal courts to reject that settlement. All right. Our time is 719 again. Were going to help you get to where you need to go. So whats happening out there . Well, were looking at commutes that are busy. And of course, we do have the east bay as some of the busiest commutes are there, including interstate 80 slogan elsa bronte. It does get better by the time you reach the macarthur maze and that the bay bridge toll plaza there is a slow traffic no doubt about it 10 to 15 minute delay before you make it onto the span. And then after that it looks good. San mateo and dumbarton bridge still look pretty good. We havent had any incidents out there this morning on those mid bay crossings. We do see some slowing on 880 between hayward and fremont. Not all the way, not all the way through, but it is slow and 101 is slow through mountain view, 85 is slowing as you drive up to highway 17. These are very normal looking backups. 719 lets talk about todays weather here, steve. All right, sal, thank you. Had some activity for a while. It looks like its lifting out, heading to the valley. Could reappear, though. Theres moisture to get into that low, which is off of southern california. Itll start to lift north next couple of days. But it has triggered some activity here. Now, there was an initial at 4 00 in the morning. You were there at 4 00. And yes, i was i went from about fremont to oakland to richmond to novato , petaluma, and then kind of fell apart. Another band went over parts of the east bay and then another one now the one over towards antioch, pittsburgh. Brentwood has now lifted. Fairfield, vacaville, heading out to rio vista. You can see thats a pretty good activity. Theres been a lot of lightning being reported out to the just now east of now oakley, antioch, Discovery Bay, brentwood had a little bit of activity there. And theres still some lines there to the south, but now more towards manteca, also modesto heading over towards stockton, probably out to lodi as well. Doesnt mean were done, but it just means those were the main bands things of looks like theyre quieting down for now. The air aloft is warm out, veers 80 degrees northeast, 12 berkeley labs, 61. They actually went from northeast to south. So that cooled it off a little bit. Ben lomond mountain, those 75 northeast. So with that northeast in place or a northerly breeze in place, you know what . I know its going to be a warm to hot day for those inland 6070s on the temps and there is fog and bases are Shallow Water temps have come up. San francisco boys 60 point race 61. Monterey boys in the low 60s. Thats the warmest weve seen in a long time. Some of this moisture ive been going right along the crest of the sierra and also the mother lode is going to make for another active day up in the mountains yesterday. I mean, this is just the beginning is the way its looking here. Over the next 5 to 7 days, kings canyon with a quarter of an inch, covers 17 one hundreds near truckee, 11 100 in tahoe city picked up. 08. But watch the moisture just take off and continue. Just favor the mountains. The Sacramento Valley, the mother lode in northern Sacramento Valley up to del norte. Humboldt county will probably see some bands rotating through here as well. Its just impossible to pinpoint. So the low clouds are on the on the coast. So the combination of that is not going to help as much today unless youre by the waters edge. Look at that point. Now, it doesnt mean this is right, but its trying to bring in more tropical moisture here in about seven days. Ive seen other projections, more towards arizona. Another one keeps it off southern california. But just the amounts being forecast in the mountains, thats pretty hefty totals for august, no doubt about it. 60s by the coast. Water temps have come up. So the temps, even though theyre not as cold as they were, 6070s, 80s, 90s and some locations inland livermore, antioch, fairfield and less some cloud cover comes in. I think youre hitting 99 or 100 today. Not much changed. Wednesday starts a little cooler. Thursday, much cooler friday. You guys okay thank you steve crews car congestion here. And theres been a line of thunderstorms have been moving through there, pushing out of the area, though, 5060s well on their way to some upper 90s to near 100 today. You can see now this there was earlier line that was towards fremont oakland, nevada. And another line went through concord walnut creek, livermore. The next one is now pushing out to eastern solano Contra Costa County hitting now stockton, lodi, rio vista, vacaville. But it would not take much today. It would not take much to get some development here. Well have more sun breaks versus we had overcast yesterday , 60s, 70s, 80s, that is to 100 degrees. Yes, sir. 100 livermore today. So close here. And hes going to talk about a bridge, a freeway. Both what both first of all, were going to start with interstate 80. Steve this morning. We have already some slow traffic here coming out on 80 westbound as you drive, its going to be 39 minute drive. Its kind of getting busy between the bridge and the macarthur maze bay bridge toll plaza backed up all the way out to the toll plaza 580. Macarthur maze, 15 to 20 minute delay. San mateo and dumbarton bridge look pretty good and there have been no problems on 880, although its pretty slow from hayward to fremont. 732 lets get back to the headlines. All right. Thank you, sal. Well, former President Donald Trump indicted again, this time in Fulton County, georgia. And political analysts say what makes this case different from the others is that trump could face jail time if convicted, even if he becomes president again, he would not be able to pardon himself for a state crime news ally joins us live to explain the latest legal case against the former president. Ali, caught in the state of georgia has some pretty strong racketeering or fraud laws on its books. And the District Attorney in Fulton County, georgia, and a team of investigators from her office relied on those laws to make this case a grand jury indicted former President Donald Trump on 13 criminal counts, including violating the states racketeering act, soliciting a public officer to violate their oath, conspiring to impersonate a public officer, conspiring to commit forgery and conspiring to file false documents. Now, this indictment accuses 18 other people of helping trump pull off what it says was essentially an Election Fraud conspiracy. Others charged include Rudy Giuliani, former white house chief of staff mark meadows, and attorneys john eastman. Sidney powell and kenneth cheeseburger. Specifically the participants in association took various actions in georgia and elsewhere to block the county of the votes of the president ial electors. I just want to find. 11,780 votes. Thats a key piece of evidence. The leaked phone call that trump made to georgia secretary of state back in 2021, asking him to find more votes in his favor and reverse his election loss in georgia. Legal analysts say, because this is a state level criminal case, trump would not be able to pardon himself if he were reelected president. Even if he gets elected president again. He doesnt have any power to pardon himself on a state offense. And in fact, in georgia, not even the governor could pardon him. It would have to be the pardon board. And after serving five years in prison, so this is a really significant case against him, even before this indictment was filed, trumps attorneys knew the case was coming. They had tried to disqualify the District Attorney and her office from investigating this. They took that claim all the way to the Georgia Supreme Court and lost. The court said trump did not have the legal standing to stop this investigation. The Fulton County d. A. Says she wants the judge in this case to set a trial date quickly sometime in the next six months. Trump and the 18 other people charged have until august 25th to turn themselves in. Analysts say it is very possible because there are so many people involved here that some of the other Associates Charged in this indictment may turn on the former president and testify against him to save themselves from prison time. Claudine and dave, back to you. All right. Thank you, ali. Well, former Oakland Police chief Loren Armstrong has filed a legal claim against the city of oakland. That claim alleges that armstrong was fired in retaliation after publicly criticizing the federal public monitor who oversees the police department. The legal claim also says that some allegations of misconduct are not supported by the facts. The claims states that armstrongs firing caused him loss of past and future earnings. The citys attorney has declined to give a comment to ktvu. Our time is 736. Oakland police still out there searching for the thieves who targeted four oakland businesses over the weekend. Now Surveillance Video shows people using cars to ram into garage doors and break into those businesses. It all happened on 26th street near broadway saturday morning at 7 a. M. When did it start to become this bad . What do we have to do to change things . How do we stop this . The mta will decide if it will Start Construction this fall or wait until the start of planned water and sewage construction in that area in 2025. Business owners on gary boulevard criticized the plan because it would get rid of several Parking Spaces on geary boulevard. All right. Time now is 739. Time to check the roads with Sal Castaneda. How are we looking south . We looked like a pretty decent commute for this time of the morning. Claudine and dave, good morning to you. We do see some slowing in the east bay right in the middle of the east bay, 880 and 680 are pretty slow. Even fallecidos road are slow this morning is slow this morning as you drive over to the old grade, i think were beginning to see just an emergence of the fall pattern. The bay bridge is backed up yester day. It was cleared up by 8 00, so im not sure if its going to happen today, but right now its still pretty robust there. If youre driving to the san mateo bridge, you can see that traffic is moving along pretty well. We havent had a lot of incidents in san jose, but weve had some slow traffic there on 101 and 280 and 85. These commutes are getting pretty full, as you would expect, on a normal commute day over to the west side of the valley, its 740. Lets talk about todays weather. Heres steve. Thank you kindly, sir. Yes, sir. All right. Our low upper low. Its elongate and kind of stretching out a little bit, but its off of southern california. Eventually itll lift northward. But look at all the moisture. It taps into the moisture. Man soon tropical takes it from southern california, arizona, nevada and sends bands up here. We had more of an overcast yesterday that didnt really allow too much development. Today we get more breaks which has generated some pretty good buildups and thunderstorm activity, although it looks like its pushing out now to the valley eastern solano, Contra Costa County, out to sacramento, stockton, rio vista to lodi. But near vacaville, fairfield, a little bit of activity there. Some brief downpours. We had some to oakley, brentwood, antioch, pittsburgh. I know Discovery Bay was pretty active for a while now. Most of that is east. Some of these bands, though, continue to come up from the valley up by five, out towards manteca. We have a little bit of an offshore breeze, not strong, but enough. And with breaks in the clouds and tropical moisture continuing to kind of dance around, its going to be warm to hot and muggy for many here today. We also have fog. Dont want to lose sight of that. It would not take much. Again, it looks pretty quiet now, but it would not take much to get some buildups as this lowest ends up. A lot of moisture here up in the mountains. It is just beginning. Yesterday, kings canyon, kivas truckee and tahoe city, all of the 0. 08 to 0. 27. And boy, is there a lot more on the way according to the forecast models. Here they are just taking this moisture from the sierra and cranking up big time northern Sacramento Valley up to del norte, humboldt county. Some of these could easily clip us almost impossible. But the amount being forecast, it is like, okay, thats not bad. Wait, man, hold on, hang on there. Thats a lot. An inch of rain for tahoe and truckee. Now, again, well take the rain. We dont want the lightning, but this would be the remains of a tropical system. Doesnt mean its right. Theres a big difference between all three of the deterministic models. One of them takes a more towards arizona. Another one takes it off southern california. But there could be some tropical moisture here, i think, throughout the rest of the month here, flirting with us, if you will. Some tropical clouds, but more sun today. So partly sunny, partly cloudy, muggy, hot. Theres already been a few showers. Well go from 6070s 80e for some inland little change wednesday that low lifts north thursday that starts a cooling trend much more pronounced on friday there claudine and dave. All right see thank you time 743 is food prices keep going up. And researchers at the Lawrence BerkeleyNational Laboratory are using bacteria to create renewable plastics. The researchers say they successfully engineered microbes to make biological alternatives for the Raw Materials that are used in plastics. While the traditional plastics cant be recycled, this new approach creates plastics. It can be repeatedly broken down and formed into new products. Whats great about is that they can be chemically recycled back to the original building blocks. And so you remake the same material fresh and it loses none of its properties as you recycle it. However many times you recycle it. So thats thats the key advance here that enables this technology to do better than what we can do today with existing plastics. That project by the way, was a collaboration between scientists at the Lawrence BerkeleyNational Laboratory, the molecular foundry and the joint bioenergy institute. An estimated 2000 homes, businesses and other buildings have been destroyed. I understand that people want numbers. Its not a numbers game. Right now, were at 99 souls and families, so were going to continue to do that. There were several wildfires across hawaii, but the governor says the lahaina fire is the most devastating. It, by the way, is now 85 contained. Well, maui is going to need help from people and organizations all over the us. One Bay Area Group is raising money and collecting items all week. James torres joins us with details about this large drive that is happening in San Francisco. James corden good morning. Were at the corner here of north point in mason, just off the bay bridge, headed toward fishermans warfare. And the organizers here are pretty much getting a lot of what theyre asking for. You can see some of the setup here behind me, a little slow this morning. Its still early this morning, but they still got this 40 foot container packed full of supplies. I mean, water, clothes , shoes, backpacks, flashlights , all sorts of things that you would expect to ask for in terms of a Disaster Relief drive. All of this being put on by the International Longshore and warehouse union. They represent a number of dock workers here in the bay area. They connected with dock workers in hawaii to find out what exactly they need to collect to help those on the islands. The big need here seems to be baby products, things like food, formula, diapers, as well as feminine hygiene and clothes. Theyre also asking for a number of camping supplies, flashlights, batteries and tents. We spoke to one woman who came out here all the way from sausalito. She told me she used to live in lahaina, worked along front street for years, and now shes felt an obligation to give back as much as she can. They said they needed roller bags like luggage that had wheels. So i brought one of those, and then i brought they said they needed backpacks. So i brought a big backpack that was my hiking pack. And then i brought all kinds of toiletry stuff and what else is in there . Oh, some dry goods. Like food, you know, like soups and canned stuff. The goal here is to fill that container by the end of the week. Organizers will then send it to hawaii on a barge, then refill it for another shipment. They hope to keep doing that until they feel like they dont need to do that anymore. And if youre interested in donating, you still have some time. Well take you back live out here. From where were standing, not only are they filling this container with a number of donations, but they have a number of messages, too. Youll see a number of these poster boards that just have tons of different prayers, little messages of encouragement, just things to uplift some of the folks who are still working to survive after losing so, so much. Now, the container here again on the corner of north point and mason right headed kind of just outside of north beach, headed toward fishermans wharf. They are collecting donations for pretty much the remainder of the week. So theyll stay here until 8 00 tonight. You will have until friday night if you wanted to come by with any of these items, you can see what exactly they are asking for. A list of these potential donations. Mayor matt mehan says the vote is about the citys ability to create a utility company. It will look into the Economic Impact of doing so, he says no final decision will be made, but before city leaders get a lot more answers to their questions, even if it passes the city is not committing itself to having a san jose power or a municipal utility like many bay area cities, san jose currently receives its power from pga. Mayor mehan says one of the things the council will discuss today is whether creating a city operated utility will eliminate some of the delays in new construction projects, a move that could lead to cost savings as the state expands transmission lines into san jose. If we were to tap directly into those, we may have more direct control over our destiny in terms of prioritizing projects, ensuring they get connected to the grid faster. There could be some real benefits there. Now demand for electricity is growing across the state. Mayor mehan says those lines are already planned to run through key parts of the city. The primary line were looking at would be coming down from newark through North San Jose near our Wastewater Treatment facility, which is a major energy user, would then come down past the airport. Another major user of energy down into the meridian station area, where we anticipate Downtown West eventually being built out. The mayor says while there are a lot of positive reasons to consider a san jose power company, he wants to make sure the city does not take on more responsibility than it and its taxpayers can handle. We asked pge officials for reaction to san joses proposal to create its own power company, but have not yet heard back from them. Well todays planned strike by thousands of San Jose City workers is on hold. Representatives from the city and two unions have been meeting regularly. One of the unions tells us it has reached conceptual terms that will go to the city council today for review and approval. Workers, including librarians, emergency dispatchers, Animal Shelter techs, engineers and airport employees have been working without a contract since the end of june. The workers are demanding better pay, parental leave and improved staffing and traffic is flowing on the east shore freeway again after an overnight crash that left a ups truck perched on the top of a Center Divide on interstate 80. You can see the situation there. This happened around midnight. The truck was hauling two trailers, slammed into that Center Median and then ended up perched on that concrete divide. Crews had to bring in a large crane to fix it. And it took a while to get that open. The road fully reopened just before five this morning. Time now is 810. We do have traffic that is going to be busy in some areas still. Lets go right out to the toll plaza. You can see its improving. But yesterday at this time, it had improved quite a bit. Today, its a little busier and that means youre probably going to have this commute go stretching on until at least 9 00. We also do have a look at the san mateo bridge. Suddenly, we have some slow traffic there. So wasnt this slow, but now its beginning to slow down as you drive westbound on the bridge, were looking to see if theres anything blocking lanes. I dont see anything now, but well keep checking for you at 811. Lets go back to the desk. So thank you. Were moving harmful levels of forever chemicals from Drinking Water. And says there were also problems with pga Public Safety power shutoffs here in california for most utilities dont have that program. And its worth noting that even in places where this has been used, it is controversial and its not universally accepted. Its seen as it can be seen as creating a hardship for those customers that have medical needs that are higher risk. It would require coordination with First Responders and as you have probably seen and maybe even reported, that the in lahaina, the electricity powers, the pumps that provide the water and so that was also a critical need during that time. Now, yesterday , the price of stock in Hawaiian Electric dropped by more than 30. Analysts say thats because there are concerns the company may have to pay large amounts to settle the lawsuits already filed and compared to pga, Hawaiian Electric, its still a small utility. State officials in hawaii are launching a review into why the islands Warning System was not activated. Maui county reports a significant wildfire risk on the island. But last week, the states Warning System, armed with dozens of sirens, never sounded. Survivor say text alerts about the coming danger never arrived because cell towers were down. Some say it resembles whats happening in recent california wildfires. Were going to have to rethink our whole approach to this to move away from sort of the mass media era of warning and towards something that can be a little more precise and a little more specific here locally, San Francisco relies on people opting into mobile alerts because the citys siren system has been offline for four years. The city says funding isnt yet available to fix that system. So if you live in alamo or danville and you felt it hit us up on social media, tell us how you felt that it was 3. 4, according to usgs preliminary data. Lets go to the bay bridge now. You can see that traffic backed up all the way out to the maze. Metering lights are on. Its not so bad. At the san mateo bridge, there was a momentary stop there, but then everythings moving along. We didnt hear about anything on the span. You can still see its very busy on 880 between hayward and union city and 680 in pleasanton and heading south to the south bay and that south bay commute now has filled in. But thank you, sir. Im on the wrong graphic. I have no idea whats next. Okay. There we go. The upper low, which is off of southern california, the blazing hot temperatures for the Pacific Northwest were sandwiched in between, but this low is tapped into a lot of moisture and its i would get used to this, i think august the rest of august is going to be rather active here. We had pretty good lines of thunderstorms. Theyve pushed out to the valley. Theyre out to stockton, vacaville, sacramento. But weve had some and i would not be surprised if we get some pretty good buildups today. Theres more breaks in the clouds therein lies the key on the forecast. Yesterday it was cloudy and it was humid, but very little in the way of activity. Today will be a lot more conducive to bringing in thunderstorm activity because you get those breaks in the clouds. Everything looks like its kicking out of my forecast zone. But theres a lot coming up, especially theres been some out towards tracy, you know, out to eastern solano, Contra Costa County now looks like its pushing out to the valley. But we have an offshore breeze here for many a northerly breeze and the air aloft is warm and it will not take long to get warm at all. Indications are if you get enough breaks in the clouds and i think most will today, more so than yesterday, upper 90 to near 100 degrees. You can see those lines moving up. And look at all the cloud cover. I mean, this will not take long. Were already seeing some cues developing over the hills. I think this will be an active pattern when you get these kind of breaks, you get better lift. So i would expect this activity to pop up here. Some of this moisture, though, continues to work its way up to tile tahoe keys had 13 100. Thank you steve bridges for that information. Kings canyon a quarter of an inch 17 near truckee, 11 100 in tahoe city picked up a 0. 08. The moisture, though, according to the forecast models, says lake tahoe, sierra nevada, northeast california, northern Sacramento Valley and northeast california. Im on the way and look at all this moisture. Now, again, just depends what forecast model you use are our good buddy, the gfs of course, being the precise model that it is really paints a lot of moisture up there and its also trying to bring in the remains of a tropical system later next week, well see another forecast models take it more towards arizona. Another one keeps it off southern california. But i do expect a lot of activity this week up in the sierra nevada, especially tahoe started yesterday and will continue today. Some fog is out there, sun, tropical clouds. So well go partly cloudy, muggy, a few showers, hot inland, 6070s by the water. 90s to 100 as you go inland a little change wednesday does look cooler to much cooler by the end of the week you guys okay thank you steve cruise car congestion here how the robotaxi company is responding after nearly a dozen driverless taxi calls. Inland temps will be hot, 90 to near 100 coast in bay 6070s. Weve already san jose and livermore, the front runners out there. Theres been plenty of activity this morning. Thunderstorm activity. A lot of this is pushed off to the valley but now stretching northward from Solano County up towards the lake county. Look at that, near clear lake just to the east of napa county. Its close. Ill mention it. Another band went out towards eastern oakley, antioch. But look at the development already here popping up here. I think this its early for this to be popping up. So something to keep an eye on today or be scattered showers or thunder showers, sun clouds, hot, humid, other than that, its a quiet day. So is here now. Wheres he going this time . Were going to go to the south bay, steve and i want to show you the traffic is moving along. Okay. If you are driving on the freeways, however it is, i mean, its slow, but there arent any major problems at earlier problem we had at the montague expressway has been cleared. I just gave it the okay, im not going to give it a good just because it looks pretty slow. But this is typical and its becoming the typical commute on were in the fall pattern, although there is improvement here at the bay bridge. Look its backing up. So if youre going to go a little later, i think you might actually have it down here. Its backed up only to the end of the parking lot. And that ramp up here where im pointing, all that traffic is beginning to dissipate. So unless something happens on the bay bridge, if you can hold off or lets say another half hour to 40 minutes, if thats in your schedule, pretty sure its going to be better for you then. 832 lets get back to the headlines. All right. Thank you, sal. Well, a grand jury in Fulton County, georgia, says the former president engaged in a conspiracy with 18 other people to overturn Election Results in that state. That accusation against former President Trump is part of a new criminal indictment that he now faces in the state of georgia. Lets go to ali ramos with more on this legal case against trump, which is a little different ali. Yeah the fourth indictment against him. And if donald trump were convicted of these specific charges in georgia, he would have to face time in jail. A minimum of five years. Thats because the state of georgia has some pretty strict racketeering or fraud laws on its books. A Fulton County, georgia, grand jury indicted former President Donald Trump on 13 criminal counts for trying to overturn the 2020 election in that state. Some of the charges include violating that states racketeering act solicitor, a public officer, to violate their oath, conspiring to impersonate a public officer, conspiring to commit forgery and filing false documents. 18 other people are also charged with helping trump in what the indictment says is a conspiracy. Really, they include Rudy Giuliani, former white house chief of staff mark meadows, and attorneys john eastman, Sidney Powell and kenneth crow, some of trumps associates are accused of doing things like harassing election workers and even trying to steal election equipment. In georgia rather than abide abide by georgias Legal Process for election challenges. The defendants engaged in a criminal racketeering enterprise to overturn georgias president ial Election Results. I just want to find. 11,780 votes that leaked phone call that trump made to georgias secretary of state back in january 2021 is a key piece of evidence in this case. Trump and the other 18 people charged have until august 25th to turn themselves into the Fulton County da legal experts say its very possible some of the other Associates Charged may turn on the former president in this case. Theyre going to be a lot of people trying to save their own skins by offering to cooperate against him and especially the many lawyers where hes likely to say its their fault. Thats the advice they gave me. I think it comes a point where they stand up and say, no, not exactly. And they dont take the fall for trump now, because this is a state level criminal case. Trump would not be able to pardon himself if he were re elected president. In fact, not even georgias governor could pardon him, only a pardoning board would be able to do that. Now, even before this indictment was filed, trumps attorneys knew this case was coming. They tried to disqualify the District Attorney in Fulton County and her office from investigating this. They took that claim all the way to the Georgia Supreme Court and lost the state Supreme Court ruled against trump and said he had no legal standing to stop this investigation. The Fulton County da says she wants the judge in this case to set a trial date soon, sometime in the next six months. Andre and claudine back to you. The claim states that armstrongs firing caused him loss of past and future earnings. The citys attorney has declined to give a comment to ktvu. Oakland police are searching for the thieves who targeted for businesses over the weekend. Surveillance video shows people using cars to ram into garage doors to get inside those shops. All the incidents happened on 26th street near broadway at 7 00 saturday morning, two auto body shops and two other businesses were targeted. I was shocked. Just to wake up on saturday morning and find out that somebody rammed their car into our garage, our business, and basically broke in the businesses that were targeted have not disclosed what was stolen. Other people who run businesses in the neighborhood are sad and frustrated. They say, when did it start to become this bad . What do we have to do to change things . How do we stop this . Im just sad for everything thats happened because oakland is a wonderful, wonderful place to live. Some Business Owners say they are worried police will have a hard time finding the culprits because their faces were covered. New this morning, santa rosa firefighters extinguished a fire at a Mobile Home Park. The Department Posted a video on social media of the response. Crews were called to the sequoyah Mobile Home Park on fulton road about 530 this morning. The flames were coming from one mobile home and threatening two others. But firefighters brought it all under control before it caused further damage. No word yet on how that fire started or any injuries. And happening today, a lawsuit against a san rafael ordinance restricting homeless encampments will be the subject of a court hearing. The City Council Approved the law last month which says individuals can only camp in a space. Thats 100ft s and 200ft s for camps wh multiple people. The camps must also set up at least 100ft from playgrounds and ten feet from electrical lines and other equipment. But several People Living on the streets are now asking for a temporary restraining order in federal court. Time now is 838. The San Francisco medical examiner has identified the woman whose body was found in a duffel bag at Golden Gate Park sunday night. Her name is kelly coco. The San Francisco resident was 37 years old. They say the death is suspicious, but cant say if her death is related in any way to the outside lands Music Festival, which was wrapping up sunday night. Investigators are not releasing any more information except to say they do not believe the community should feel threatened. Theyre asking anyone with information or video of the area from sunday afternoon or evening that might help them to please come forward. Well, engineering experts are warning that socalled connectivity issues with Driverless Cars could get worse. The San FranciscoCompany Cruise is getting criticized for a tech glitch this past weekend that caused six of its ten cars to stop in the north beach neighborhood, which then tied up traffic. Crews blamed that connectivity issue on the heavy use of cell phones at the outside lands Music Festival in Golden Gate Park. These vehicles need continuous connectivity back to a Central Office and what the company say is that when they lose the connected city, the cars stop to ensure safety. Now that still happened as the California PublicUtilities Commission approved the expansion of robo taxis in San Francisco. We did interview a Carnegie MellonUniversity Professor who is an expert in robo cars. He says the cpuc in its expansion approval, failed to address repeated interface with emergency responders. Crews and waymo say they are proud of their safety records and are always looking to upgrade safety. Well, today the San Francisco mta is set to vote on the plan for transit only lanes along gary boulevard in the richmond district. The muni and taxi only lanes would run between 15th avenue and 33rd avenue. The agency will decide whether to Start Construction this fall or wait until the start of planned water and sewer constructions in the area in 2025. Business owners on gary boulevard have lashed out at the plan because it will eliminate a number of Parking Spaces on gary boulevard. All right. Time now is 840. And lets talk about these temperatures. That humid weather always takes a little bit of getting used to. Steve, were not used to that. Andre wrote the book on it. I think being in south florida. Right. South florida, i mean, its nothing compared to that. But for us, yeah, its rough because i feel it now. All right. Yeah. So we have higher humidity, so kind of muggy here. And theres been a lot of activity popping up now, some of its died down, but i think theres more on the way here. Upper is off of southern california. Itll lift northward and start to cool us down, but not for a couple of days. Watch up towards lake county and close right by clear lake. There eastern side, a lot of cloud cover streaming up. Most of this tends to favor out to the valley. Now, we had bands go through early this morning from about fremont to oakland and novato, another band went over concord bay point, pittsburgh, brentwood, antioch had some pretty good activity. Discovery bay now thats out towards stockton and rio vista. But look at this already watch right around altamont pass. Tracy right back over towards concord, vallejo east bay. So i would not be surprised to see some Rapid Development here today as some of this tropical moisture move moves through. The key is yesterday we had cloudy skies. You need some kind of break sun breaks to generate some lift and well definitely have that today 70s already on many of these temps. Its going to be upper 90 to 100 and less. A lot of cloud cover comes in and cuts the edge off. But youre seeing some development already taking shape there. And i would i mean, its early, so there could easily be plenty more on the way later today as we get some afternoon heating, although there will be a little bit of a cap, i should add, in the atmosphere due to how hot its going to get. But moisture continues to circulate northward towards the sierra and tahoe. The next couple of days. Look very active here. Kings canyon quarter of an inch, khyber 17, truckee 11, 100. Tahoe city, eight one hundreds forecast models say, you know what, were not done yet. Well send more bands in for more rounds of thunderstorms. Not only tahoe, truckee, but northeast california. Northern Sacramento Valley, also up to del norton. Humboldt, kind of look at that moisture just streaming northward. Of course, our good friend, the gfs forecast model is just going nutty on some of the projections here. It tries to take more tropical moisture. The remains of it, and send it up into nevada, southern california, also in Southern Nevada and then into tahoe. Well see. Theres not a consensus on it, but i think the rest of the month could be active here with more tropical moisture on the way. If youre inland today, its going to be hot, muggy, 90 to 100 coast and bay dealing with some fog. So 60s and 70s there a pretty big spread here on the temps. But i think we top it out today. Itll still be rather warm and muggy and hot. Wednesday starts cooling down thursday, big drop you guys on friday. Okay. Thank you, steve. Police in menlo park are warning residents and visitors to watch out for a Mountain Lion. That puma was spotted yesterday morning near sandhill road, not far from the Sharon Heights golf and country club. And an alert immediately went out to People Living in the area. Wildlife experts say the cougar did not appear to be aggressive and likely just wandered through the neighborhood. Mountain lion habitat is often splintered by urban right, so its possible that this Mountain Lions habitat is just as dissected by 280. Right. Or dissected by the golf course. And its possible the Mountain Lion was simply moving from one patch of suitable habitat to another patch of suitable habitat. Wildlife experts say so far this year, there have been 36 Mountain Lion sightings in San Mateo County. All right, time now, 849. Time to talk to sal about our roads on this tuesday. How are we looking, sal . Well, were looking pretty good. I have the bay bridge thats improving here. I love to see this right before nine because it gives some of the later commuters a little bit of a break. If you dont want to go between, lets say, six and eight, if you want to go closer to nine, lots of times we can do this for you and have a very nice looking commute. And if you want to go even later, then itll be better. And ive seen that it hasnt been terrible on the san mateo or on the dumbarton bridge. Weve also seen just a lot of slow traffic in the east bay. 680 right through that construction zone. Ive had a lot of people say why are they going to be done with this . This is not very good today. Its slow there. And 880 is very slow. Both directions from hayward. If you were to start at 238 and pick one way or the other, both of them are slow. People are avoiding 880 and theyre on 580 now. So out of san leandro, 580 is kind of slow heading up the highway 13. So we kind of have a late commute. Its surprising that more people arent at the bay bridge, but it could be that youre just having trouble getting there with all that slowing. 850 lets bring steve back in with todays weather. I say that about 80. So when are they going to be done with this . There are a lot of places there are a lot. All right. Thank you. We had some activity popping up. Theres already more cloud cover now. Yesterday we had clouds with us. Most of the day. Then they cleared late today, therell be more hit and miss. Some development already taking place. Looks like it would not surprise me to see some more showers. Thunder showers pop up. We had some earlier. Most of the activity, though, was now towards eastern solano Contra Costa County. Theres a little bit up towards lake county right now. Now, again, it just depends. Hit and miss. You have the broad brush, but the sierra not a not a problem. It looks like its going to be active up there. Probably for a week or so, not continue, but there could be some pretty hefty totals. So if youre going to the mountains, keep an eye on things. They had big thunderstorms yesterday. We get a mix of sun clouds, fog, maybe showers. Its going to be hot inland, 90 to 100 degrees out there for some after today. I think still well be on the downward slide, especially as we head towards thursday and friday. Much cooler by then. You guys. Thank you so much.
