Arising from a criminal conspiracy to overturn the the 2020 president ial election in this state. Fulton County District attorney fani willis announced the charges late monday night, wrapping up an investigation that lasted more than two years. The charge is alleged interference in the 2020 election by former President Donald Trump and his supporters to illegal keep President Trump in office. Former President Trump is named in 13 counts, which include trumps phone call to georgia secretary of state Brad Raffensperger asking him to find enough votes to overturn bidens win in georgia. I just want to find. 11,780 votes, specifically , the participants in association took various actions in georgia and elsewhere to block the county of the votes of the president ial electors who were certified as the winners of georgias 2020 general election. Among the others indicted trumps attorneys Rudy Giuliani and john eastman, as well as white house chief of staff mark meadows and georgia gop officials as well as campaign attorney sidney powell. Charges include false statements impersonating a public official , forgery and conspiracy to submit false documents rather than by abide by georgias Legal Process for election challenges. The defendants engaged in a criminal racketeering enterprise to overturn georgias president ial election results. Tonight the Trump Campaign issued a statement before the News Conference saying the investigation was a democratic attack on trumps First Amendment right to free speech. The District Attorney says there are arrest warrants out, but she is giving the defendants until noon on friday august 25th to surrender. Mike, jenna katsuyama live for us tonight. Jenna, thank you. Political analysts say this indictment is the most serious. The former president is facing tonight on the 10 00 news, we spoke to laurie levenson, law professor at Loyola Marymount university. This is very significant because think that some people think trump is running for president. So he can avoid being convicted on the federal charges, but it wouldnt help him even if he gets elected president again. He doesnt have any power to pardon himself on a state offense. And in fact, in georgia, not even the governor could pardon him. It would have to be the pardon board. And after serving five years in prison. So this is a really significant case against him, both in scope, the potential for exposure and the fact that itll be very hard for him to keep a whole group of 91 people together in solidarity when they go to trial, leaving. Johnson says the new charges also carry a mandatory minimum if convicted, she says the defendants could face 5 to 20 years in prison. And Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries released a joint statement in response to the indictment tonight. They said in part, the fourth indictment of donald trump, just like the three, which came before, it portrays a repeated pattern of criminal activity by the former president. The actions taken by the fulton County District attorney, along with other state and federal prosecutors, reaffirm the shared belief that in america no one, not even the president , is above the law. Our coverage of this latest Trump Indictment continues online. There you can find the latest developments and a copy of the full indictment. The council will vote tomorrow if it should move forward with gathering more information on the impact it would have on the city. Ktvu is Lamonica Peters spoke to the mayor about the pros and cons. San jose mayor matt marin says Tuesdays City Council vote is about the citys ability to create a Utility Company. And its the first of many steps in the process. Tomorrow, even if it passes the city is not committing itself to having a san jose power or a municipal utility. Theyll take a look at the Economic Impact and other key factors before finalizing any decision as the state expands transmission line into san jose. If we were to tap directly into those, we may have more direct control over our destiny in terms of prioritizing projects, ensuring they get connected to the grid faster. There could be some real benefits there. Currently the city of san jose is serviced by pga and mehan says he has discussed with them the citys needs and concerns. He says the council will discuss if creating a san jose Utility Company may avoid more construction delays and lead to future savings. Right now what were looking at in the short term is interconnection rates. How quickly can new housing and jobs get connected to the grid so that we can continue to facilitate Economic Development in san jose . Demand for electricity throughout the state continues to grow, which is one reason new transmission lines are being installed throughout the south bay region. The primary line were looking at would be coming down from newark through North San Jose near our Wastewater Treatment facility, which is a Major Energy User would then come down past the airport. Another major user of energy down into the durden station area where we anticipate Downtown West eventually being built out. The mayor says although they are considering creating a Power Company in san jose, he also doesnt want to overburden the city with more responsibility than it already has. In time for this report. Hawaiis state attorney general has launched a review of the Wildfire Response after the islands Warning Systems failed. Ktvu is brooks jarocz takes a closer look at the systems and why some Say Something similar could happen in San Francisco. Damage, destruction and death. Despite the highly likely probability of a wildfire in lahaina. This was unexposed. If you just judged what could happen by whats happened in the last year or two, in the last five years, you may be drastically underestimating your risk, but maui countys own reports show the risks were there, suggesting hawaiis and mauis fire problem is more extreme than on the us mainland, averaging four fires a year and increasing in frequency and severity with drought and dry vegetation having high, prolonged wind events at the same time sort of exacerbates the whole thing because that dries the fuels out further. It if spreads the flames warnings about growing grasses were there, but even the countys own documents show a Strategic Plan fails to address Fire Prevention as a mission or goal. A significant oversight. Just last week, a failure to use hawaiis highly touted Warning System sign warns never sounded. And even with some text alerts about the impeding danger, survivors say they never received them with telecommunication towers down, its strikingly similar to what happened amid recent california wildfires. And San Francisco has a siren alert system that has been offline for four years, since funding isnt yet available to fix it, relying on residents to opt into mobile alerts instead. But even hawaii has had its mishaps. A false Missile Warning was sent in 2018, saying it was not a drill. Were going to have to rethink our whole approach to this to move away from sort of the mass media era of warning and towards something that can be a little more precise and a little more specific public warning experts say theres going to be a shift to a commercial and Community Based approach to alerts, catering to neighborhoods in a more immediate way. Mauis 2020 mitigation plan, says lahaina and west maui, has the highest rate of nonenglish speakers in the county and the second highest rate of households without a car. All of that may have added to the chaos and confusion as flames furiously claimed land and lives. Brooks jarocz ktvu fox two news. All right, checking in on the weather, the rotation of this low south of here is creating this moisture plume coming from the east to the west. Thunderstorms over the last 12 hours all throughout this year in nevada, some showing up down south, down towards gilroy, morgan hill and working their way up towards mount hamilton. That was just an afternoon. All of that has died down except the moisture. The high humidities stay in the area. So temperatures today with the high humidity, were cooler, but they obviously felt more uncomfortable because the humidities were in the 40 and 50th percentile, especially in these inland spots like fairfield. Tomorrow itll be a lot like today, less humidity, about same temperatures, maybe a little bit cooler. But at the same here with less humidity. So it wont feel as hot. Theres this fog out of the coast. You cant see it here. You can see the sea breeze and green that represents sea breeze and as we go into tomorrow, you can see the morning watch these clouds. Boom, thats that southern flow. So theres your humidity, maybe a shower or two north of here, the afternoons fog stays at the coast. And then wednesday morning it continues. When you see that flow, its coming from the gulf of california, a lot of that moisture. So its real volatile. So the potential for thunderstorms on tuesday and wednesday and thursday in lake tahoe area, a pretty real deal. The forecast for tomorrow, you see theres the moisture and then you see the heat. The reds are 90 in the seabreeze, keeping most of that heat just in the inland bay valley. So around the bay, comfortable inland, not so 100 degree forecast in fairfield, 87 in vallejo. Much cooler here in the 71 in pacifica. The five day forecast has got pretty much a significant cooldown showing up as we get into thursday, friday , saturday and sunday. So fire danger is always high, but this humidity doesnt kind of helps out a little bit. Ill see you back here tomorrow night. All right, bill, thank you. Researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory are using bacteria to create renewable plastics. Researchers say they successfully engineered microbes to make biological alternatives for the Raw Materials that are used to create infinitely recyclable plastics, also known as pdk. While traditional plastics cant be recycled, this new approach creates plastics that can be repeatedly broken down and formed into new products. Whats great about pdk is that they can be chemically recycled back to the original Building Blocks and so you remake the same material all fresh and it loses none of its properties as you recycle it. However, many times you recycle it. So thats thats the key advance here that enables this technology to do better than what we can do today with existing plastics and this project was a collaboration between scientists at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the molecular foundry and the joint bioenergy institute.
