A san leandro Police Officer was formally charged today with voluntary manslaughter stemming from the shooting death of an African American man inside of a walmart. The case will test a New California law governing when Law Enforcement officers can use deadly force. Reporter veteran san leandro Police Officer jason fletcher, on the right, walked into the Alameda County superior court house tuesday to face a charge of voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of a black man he saw inside a walmart store. Outside court family of the victim Stephen Taylor stood together demanding justice. After a brief hearing deputies handcuffed fletcher, booked him and took him into custody until he posted the 200,000 bail a few hours later. Fletchers attorney said the officer is innocent. Is a very, very mature, experienced officer and did everything he could. Reporter but the Alameda County district says the officer did not do everything he could inside the store last april. The incident captured on video shows officer confronting taylor , who is holding an aluminum baseball bat. The officer tries to unsuccessfully grab the bat and pulls out his gun while yelling at taylor to drop the bat. The prosecution says fletcher teases him twice while taylor is Still Standing and the bat pointed down. Fletcher then shoots him in the chest, all within 40 seconds. Sickening.
