Police and the east bay are investigating a latenight officer involved shooting in oakland. It involved a car chase, and a san Leandro Police officer. That is why you have two agencies investigating what happened here. Lets take you to the scene. We have a live picture to show you. This is from the intersection of san leandro and apple street. 7. 11 00 last night, that is when police say they spotted a stolen vehicle, and had followed it into oakland. You can see flashing lights at the scene. The area around where all of this happened is still blocked off. It is a large Law Enforcement presence. Im being told that a tow truck five minutes ago had towed away the vehicle of the suspect, the man who was shot and killed by police in this area late last night. 11 00 last night is when police say they filed a stolen vehicle report, it crashed near maine and apple street, and san Leandro Police say that is when the driver of the stolen car got out of the vehicle with what they described as an installed style firearm. That is one of the officers shot and killed the driver. We dont know the mans identity and we dont have any other information about what happened here. Since the officer involved shooting happened and oakland, Oakland Police are investigating with the allegheny districts office. The officers placed on paid administrative leave. The Senate Minority leader says that renters need to be given Financial Assistance and, in addition to eviction protection. We can prevent americans from being kicked out of their apartments for another few months, but if they cannot pay their rent, they will be right back at square one when the moratorium expires, with more unpaid bills piled up. Sends a bipartisan deal is not close, President Trump says he considers executive action that will come in three areas, school outs, Unemployment Benefits, and eviction protection. Bay area transit agencies and agencies all over the country have said that if the federal government does not give them financial help, they will go out of business. They want 34 billion dollars and eight from congress, as part of the next Coronavirus Relief bill. The Transit Agency says with dramatically reduced ridership, they have been running with reduced capacity through the pandemic, taking essential workers to and from their jobs. They say that keeping Public Transit alive is critical to the nations economic health. We need congress to act now. There is an urgent need, at its core, the economy cannot and will not recover without transit. The Transit Agency says that while they are losing revenue because of lower ridership, the operating costs are going up, with the extra cleaning that has to be done during the pandemic. Another agency is also supporting the sales tax measure on the ballot in order to help save caltrain. San francisco municipal transportation agencys approved a deal that would put a 1 8 cent sales tax hike on the November Ballot in order to pay for caltrain. The tax would generate 108 million a year for caltrain, caltrain says they are in a financial crisis because of a steep drop in ridership during the pandemic. The tax measure still has to be approved by transit officials and county supervisors in three different counties. State lawmakers are asking the court system to keep eviction bans in place in california, for now. The Judicial Council that oversees the court system could lift the ban on evictions as soon as next friday. The la times says that some lawmakers want the Judicial Council to resume eviction proceedings next month. Several state lawmakers plan to work with the governor in order to find a way to prevent a crash of addictions during the pandemic.
