Its been two months since00 pe the south streets of last night in the citys latest march and rally in support of the black lives Matter Movement. Demonstration included members of the bay area all of moms who put wore bright yellow shirts and carried piece sense. Group leaders came to act as human barriers to protect the demonstrators and they say they refused to be intimidated. Four we know there are forces that would try and undo the good they are doing. Or prevent them from doing what they are doing. This Bay Area Group was inspired by the walls moms in portland. Embers of that have become the icons of the nightly protest that had taken place in portland during the past two months. The protesting remain peaceful during the earlmorning reporter good morning. The protest started last night and did not end until early this morning. Protesters took to the streets of oakland, not only to support the black lives Matter Movement, but also in solidarity with demonstrations happening and portland after federal forces were sent there. Oakland Police Department says several people were arrested last night and the Alameda County superior court house was set on fire. Windows at the Police Department were broken and spraypainted. There were other reports of vandalism and small fires set in the downtown area as well. The Department Says some people through fireworks at officers. While the protest took a violent turn in the latenight hours, it did not start that way. Protesters does not take away from the message that federal police should not be involved in protests and they are taking a stand against their presence in oakland if it should get to that point. Four i feel like protesters are just people who want to be heard. They are fighting for equality, and is likely should be allowed to do that without intervention. The wall of moms group held a smaller protest in palo alto and supported the protesters in portland. Several people stood along the corner yesterday afternoon. Organizers say they were protesting Police Brutality and President Trump sending federal officers into cities. And there were protests all around the country, around 200 people gathered in downtown los angeles. There was some vandalism at federal buildings, and officers made a few arrest. About 50 people chanting outside l. A. City hall, and one group the product a freeway about a mile south of downtown. But this protest wrapped up before 10 00. A very different story in seattle, where 21 officers were injured and police made more than 40 arrests. Two large groups of demonstrators joined forces and marched toward the King County Family Justice Center. They broke windows in several businesses and entered a construction site and set fire to equipment in both car windows. When Police Ordered this crowd to leave, the crowd began throwing bottles and tossing explosives at officers. As many as 5000 people came together for a demonstration in Downtown Portland overnight. That is where there have been protests every night for the past two months. This started as demonstrations against police toddy, but theyve turned into protest against President Trump who sent federal officers into portland. Police called last nights event a riot and federal agents used tear gas and the crowd, surrounding the federal courthouse. Most of that crowd left by about 230 this morning. And thats the coronavirus pandemic, cases continue to rise in the 4. 1 million cases reported. Florida now has more cases than new york making estate with the second most cases in the country behind california. At least 50 intensive care units reached capacity. Last year, 18 states set daily case records and 40 have had 14 day increases per capita. More than 73,000 new cases were added across the country yesterday. The second highest daily total since the pandemic began. Here in california, the state added more than 6000 covid19 cases over the last 24 hours. Right now, there are over 446,000 cases statewide. More than 8400 people have died. In the bay area, there are more than 47,000 covid19 cases, and 761 people have died. A vaccine for the coronavirus has set to begin final state testing tomorrow. A few other vaccines have begun smaller, late stage studies and other countries, and here in the usa, the series of studies are planned to begin each month to the fall. 15 members of the Petaluma Fire Department are under quarantine this morning after one firefighter tested positive for covid19. Officials say the firefighter it is in Good Condition and has not been hospitalized. Fire station with the infected firefighter works is closed for cleaning by a professional Sanitation Company while the station is closed. The Fire Department will assist petaluma and responding to emergency calls. Its now been two months since george floyd was killed in the custody of minneapolis police. 700 people filled the streets of oakland last night in support of black lives matter, and demonstrations th while the protest and open begin, peaceful thdown. You can take a look at the video here. The oakland Police Departments of the Alameda County superior court house was set on fire. You can see the shattered windows and graffiti in this video. Several people were arrested last night. According to the pd, there were reports of vandalism to the police station, and small fires set in downtown oakland as well. While the night did take a violent turn, it started peacefully. With hundreds of protesters wanting their voices heard. They were not just there to support black lives matter, but also, in solidarity with demonstrations happening in portland after federal police were sent there. This is the first weekend of San Franciscos new health order in response to the growing number of coronavirus cases in the city. It does require people to wear masks , and nearly all situations once they step outside her door. This was a scene on the streets of San Francisco yesterday. Some people were wearing masks, but others were not. Woman says she understands the importance of keeping her face covered to stop the spread of the virus. I was doing it before they made it mandatory because we are all trying to be mindful of each other, but we know people are not. So, i tried to do my part. Everyone over the age of 10 years old and San Francisco is now required to wear a mask anytime they come within 6 feet of another person. Those who cannot wear a Face Covering due to medical conditions must carry a written note from the doctor, or other medical professional. And, crowds of people seem to be ignoring social distancing and mask wearing guidelines. The city has repeatedly asks large crowds not together there. Efforts have also been made to deter people from going to the lake. A restricted parking and band food trucks and vendors on the weekend. But it does not seem to be working. Large gatherings are feeling the spread of the coronavirus in oakland and elsewhere. And officer with the los angeles Police Department has died from covid19. Officer Valentin Martinez died on friday. He was a 13 year veteran of the department. Officer martinez was 40 factors old and was about to become a father. He tested positive for the virus at the end of may. L. A. Mayor Eric Garcetti described martinez as a hero. One of those frontline individuals that embodies the City Government family. Said would never stop working for all of you. He made the ultimate sacrifice serving all of us. Officer martinez is the second lapd employee to die from the illness. For the 23 lapd officers have tested positive for the coronavirus true the department is investigating where martinez may have contracted the virus. Police are investigating a shooting this morning that left a 20yearold man dead. Officers responded to reports of gunfire at about 7 30 on friday night. Through the intersection of Gateway Drive and brown street. The victim in this case was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released his name yet, and they have not said if they have anyone in custody. This was vallejos 16th homicide of the year. Pleasant hill police are looking for a hitandrun driver lucy crashed into another car. Police released this photo of the damaged car. Now, this happened just before 11 00 on friday night. Police say a 10, 2000 model Ford Explorer was traveling northbound when it ran a red light. The suv hit a red nissan on concord avenue. Witnesses say the driver of the explorer got into interstate 680 going southbound. The person in the nissan was not hurt. A memorial for the founder of a legendary Motorcycle Club was held in oakland. Friends and loved ones gathered together to read bertolli livingston who started back in 1958. The group was the bay areas first allblack Motorcycle Club. The dragons became known for their commitment to family and their strong sense of community. The club often organized charity drives and fundraising events. Beakers at the memorial talked about livingstons place in the club, and the city of oakland. As founder and president , toby exuded the values he built into the clubs foundation. Community, honor, family, and brotherhood. The dragons became the blueprint for countless Motorcycle Clubs and toby became a leader to so many backers around the world. Livingston was also friends with the black Panther Party who had headquarters near the clubhouse. He was 86 years old. Police in kentucky say three members of an Armed Militia Group were accidentally shot in a bizarre incident during a demonstration in louisville. This happened yesterday during the latest protest in the hometown of breonna taylor. She is the africanamerican woman who was killed in a Controversial Police shooting earlier this year. Police say one member of that Militia Group accidentally shot and wounded three others during a counter demonstration. All three of those who are expected to recover. Nearly all of the bay area School Districts are beginning with the new school year with online classes only. And a new National Poll finds most American Parents are worried about returning to traditional inperson classes when instruction resumes. The Associated Press survey found that 80 of those questioned are worried or scared about sending their children back to class as they think it would contribute to ridding the virus. Colleges and universities across the country are also trying to figure out if they will hold inperson classes when school resumes. Most of the major bay area colleges are planning to hold limited classes on campus. Many schools across the country say they will only have online classes. That includes Harvard University which plans to charge the full tuition. Then, as some students consider their options. Im considering taking the fall semester off because after experiencing the virtual spring, i really feel like i missed out on a variable is enough active the harvard education, which is the harvard experience. Reporter most schools that plan to hold on campus classes say it wont be the same as last fall. Instead, masks will be required , dorm capacity reduced, social distancing in classrooms, and coronavirus testing will be conducted. A network of volunteers and Health Professionals are refurbishing tens of thousands of masks to help slow the spread of covid19. The group called the scrappy stripers takes expired masks that have been sitting in storage and makes them safe and usable once again. Volunteers removed the elastic and restrapped the mess with a thicker band. New ones are no longer suitable Public Health guidelines and they are acceptable to be used in the community. This just seem like the opportunity to bring people together and get them a little bit of hope, let them feel good about serving in the community and giving back. So far, the scrappy stripers have finished about half of the 80,000 masks that were found at ucsf. The products are donated to seniors, homeless people, and members of underserved communities. Hundreds filled the streets of oakland last night in support of black lives matter and the ongoing demonstrations in portland. The protest in oakland remain peaceful during the early evening hours but then things changed once the sun went down. Ktvus Sara Zendehnam joins us live with the aftermath. Good morning, sarah. Two of morning. Now that the sun is up, we are actually getting a better look at the aftermath after last nights protest. You can take a look at this video here. The oaken Police Department says the Alameda County superior court house was on fire. You can see shattered windows and graffiti in this video. Several people were arrested last night. According to the pd, there were other reports of vandalism to the police station, and small fires set in downtown oakland as well. While the night took a violent turn, it started peacefully, with hundreds of protesters just wanting their voices heard. They were not just there to support the black lives Matter Movement, but also in solidarity with demonstrations happening in portland after federal police were sent there. A group called the bay area wall of moms acted as a human barrier to protect demonstrators. They were inspired by the wall of moms in portland who had done the same thing at protest there. They say they are taking a stand against the presence of federal forces in oakland if it should get to that point. Is terrifying and one of the reasons im willing to put my life and body on the line because i the that this is becoming a fascist dictatorship. We are still waiting for back numbers. Wall smaller protest in palo alto in sport of the protesters. Several people stood on the corner yesterday afternoon. Organizers say they were protesting Police Brutality, and President Trumps decision to send federal officers into cities. There were protest all around the country, about 200 people marched through downtown los angeles. There was some vandalism at federal buildings, and officers made some arrests. About 50 people chanted outside of las city hall, and one group briefly blocked a freeway thats about a mile south of downtown. The protest is wrapped up by about 10 00 last night. A very different story in seattle for 21 officers injured. Police made more than 40 arrest. Two large groups of demonstrators joined forces and marched toward the King County Family Justice Center and broke windows at several businesses, then entered a construction site, setting fire to equipment and breaking car windows. When Police Ordered this group to leave, the crowd started throwing bottles and tossing doses and officers. As many as 5000 demonstrators gathered for a protest in Downtown Portland overnight. Thats where there have been demonstrations that have been taking place every day for the past two months. These have started off as protests against Police Brutality, but they have developed into demonstrations against President Trump who sent federal officers into the city of portland. Police, last night, declared the event a riot, and federal agents used tear grass on the crowd. Most of the crowd left by 2 30 this morning. Florida, now has more cases than new york, making it the state with the second most cases in the country behind california. At least 50 intensive care units run for to have reached capacity, and last week, 18 states set daily case records. 40 had a 14 day increase increase per capita. More than 73,000 cases were added across the country yesterday. Thats the second highest daily total since this pandemic began. Here in california lets show you some numbers for the state added more than 6000 covid19 cases in the last 24 hours. So right now there are 446,452 cases statewide. More than 8400 people have died. In the bay area, there are more than 47,000 covid19 cases, and 761 people have died. Vaccine for the coronavirus is set to begin its final stage of testing tomorrow. A few other vaccines have begun with smaller late stage studies and other countries here in the united states, there are a series of studies that are scheduled to begin each month through the fall. 15 members of the Petaluma Fire Department are under quarantine this morning after one firefighter tested positive for covid19. Officials say that that firefighter is in Good Condition and has not been hospitalized. They say 61yearold Valerie Lyons died friday night. She joined the department in 1997, and most recently worked as an administrator in the coroners office. The procession is underway for the late georgia congressman john lewis, and its across the Edmund Pettis bridge right now in alabama. That is of course the same bridge were civil rights marchers were attacked by police in selma 55 years ago. Lewis had his Skull Fracture during that march, and it was a march to gain Voting Rights for africanamericans in this country. The congressmans body will cross the bridge alone, and then it will be met by an honor guard of state troopers who will then escort his casket to the state capital. There in alabama. He will lie in repose there at the capital for tonight. Of course, you can see live pictures here. The procession is just Getting Started here. Of course we are going to continue to follow it. Of course congressman lewis represented atlanta in congress for 34 years. On wednesday, he will lie in state at the Georgia State capital. And then he is scheduled to be buried in atlanta coming up on thursday. Lewis died of pancreatic cancer earlier this month at the age of 80. And again, we are continuing to follow this procession here in selma, alabama this morning. The body of civil rights icon john lewis will be making its way across the Edmund Pettis bridge. Hundreds of people filled the streets of downtown oakland last night in the citys latest march and rally in support of the black lives Matter Movement. The demonstration included members of the bay area wall of moms who wore bright yellow shirts and carried yellow pea signs Peer Group Leaders say they came to barriers to help protect demonstrators. That protest in downtown oakland remained peaceful during the evening hours, but then there was violence and vandalism and arson once the sun went down. Police did make several arrests after the superior court house was set on fire, and windows at the Oakland Police headquarters were broken and sprayed with graffiti peaceful demonstrators say the overnight violence should not divert attention away from their fight against Police Brutality. Especially right now with whats happening in portland which is really disgusting to me, and im just here to represent, and to show oakland, or show portland im here with them. Sara zendehnam is going to have more on last night to menstruation oakland coming up for us at 9 00. And suv drove through a large group of demonstrators during a protest in a denver suburb. Video shows the crowd scattering as a blue jeep runs through that group. A protester fired a gun and two other protesters were injured. One was taken immediately to the hospital, and the other walked in later with a minor wound. The jeep was towed away, but its not clear yet if anyone has been arrested. Demonstrators also broke windows at the courthouse and set fire to the inside. Please in kentucky say three members of an Armed Militia Group were excellently shot in a bizarre incident during a demonstration in louisville. It happened yesterday during the latest protest in the hometown of breonna taylor. The africanamerican woman who was killed in a Controversial Police shooting earlier this year. Police say one member of the Militia Group accidentally shot and wounded three others during a counter demonstration. All three are expected to fully recover. This morning, police are investigating a shooting that killed a 20yearold man. Officers responded to reports of gunfire at about 7 30 on friday night. Near the intersection of Gateway Drive and brown street. The victim was pronounced dead at that scene. Police have not released his name yet. They have also not said if theres anybody in custody in connection with the shooting. This was his 16th homicide of the year. This morning, police are searching for a hit and run driver who say crash into another car. Police released this photo here of that damaged car. This happens just before 11 on friday night on contra costa boulevard. Police say a Ford Explorer was traveling north when he ran a red light. The suv then hit a red nissan traveling westbound on concord avenue. Witnesses say the driver of the explorer gone to interstate 680 and headed southbound. The person that nissan was not hurt. A memorial was held for the founder of the legendary oakland Motorcycle Club. Friends and loved ones gathered in oakland to remember Toby Livingston who started the East Bay Drive and back in 1958. The group was the bay areas first allblack Motorcycle Club. The dragons became known for their commitment to family and their strong sense of community. The club often organized charity drives and fundraising events. Speakers at the memorial talked about livingstons place in the club and the city of oakland. Founder and president , toby exuded the values he built into the clubs foundation. Community, honor, family, and brotherhood. The dragons became the blueprint for countless Motorcycle Clubs and toby became a leader to so many bikers around the world. Livingston was also friends with the leaders of the black Panther Party who had their headquarters near the dragons clubhouse. Toby livingston was 86 years old. Police in france say a Church Volunteer has admitted to setting fire to a historic cathedral earlier this month. Investigators say he is now facing arson charges for the fire that badly damaged the 15th century gothic cathedral in the city. San franciscos annual strictly bluegrass Music Festival has been officially canceled due to coronavirus. The event was scheduled to take place in october in golden gate park, but instead, festival organizers are putting together an online broadcast that will feature new performances along with old footage. Ongoing demonstrations in portland. The protesters remain peaceful in the early hours but later in the night things changed. A look at some of the damage was done to the cities. Crews in front of the oakland Police Department 40 at the building after windows were smashed. The courthouse was also damaged after part of it was set last night. And other reports of vandalism and small fires that in downtown oakland as well. There were about 700 people to to the streets. They did not want the focus to shift from their messages because the night of unrest. Protesters were there just to support black lives matter but in solidarity with demonstrations happening in portland. A group called the bay area wall of moms have acted as a human wall. They say theyre taking a stand against the presence of federal forces in oakland. If they should get to that point. We know there are forces that could try to undo the things theyre doing. Theyre not going to intimidate me. Im not afraid of them. The protest wrapped up early this morning. There were lots of other protest that happened last night all around the country. About 200 or so people march to the streets of downtown los angeles. There was some vandalism to federal buildings and officers did make a few arrests. About 50 people stopped intended outside l. A. City hall. This protest wrapped up by about 10 00 last night. A different story in seattle. 21 officers were injured and police made more than 40 arrest. Two large groups of deputies joint forces and march toward the King County Family Justice Center. They broke windows in several businesses and then entered a construction site is that fire to equipment and broke car windows. When Police Ordered this group to leave the crowd began throwing bottles and tossing explosives at officers. As many as 5000 devastated gathered Downtown Portland overnight. Where they have been having protest every day for the past two months. They started the demonstration against Police Brutality.
