Lets go back to the headlines. Crews in the east bay are still on the scene of a fire. This fire started at mayhews landing road. Investigators say the flames spread from a car inside of a garage to other parts of the home. The one woman inside the house did get out safely. Investigators are calling the fire suspicious. We will update this story as soon as we get more information. All right, as california reopens, the rising number of coronavirus cases is a problem. Ktvus Sara Zendehnam is here to tell us what the governor says he might do, good morning, sara. Reporter a good morning. Governor newsom says that tightening stayathome restrictions is not what they need to do just yet. They are prepared if the numbers keep trending up. It was expected that we would see more positive coronavirus cases with looser restrictions and testing. Governor newsom is worried about the direction the state is headed in. 35 of positive cases in california have happened in the last two weeks. That is nearly 47,000 new cases. In a News Conference on monday, newsom says the state is starting to see a slight uptick in positivity rates, a 16 of crease in hospitalization and an 11 increase in icu admission. We have the capacity to handle these numbers for now. Telephone yet has nearly 185,000 cases of about 6000 from the day before. As an 5600 people have died. California conducted a Record Number of tests on sunday. That was 92,000 tests total. The new sectors of the economy, this is what the governor had to say about them. We do not intend to do that. We dont want to do that. I want to make this clear, we are prepared to do that if we must. Dearly, we have the capacity. That is individual and collective capacity to not have to go in that direction by just being a little bit more thoughtful about how we go about our daytoday lives. Reporter the state is closely monitoring 11 counties and supporting them as they navigate their larger increases in coronavirus cases. None of the 11 counties are located in the bay area. The two closest to us are san joaquin and the others are in central california. Newsom says we are in the first wave of coronavirus. We need to talk about this before dealing with the potential second wave. The government urges everyone to wear a mask. It is important to cover your face. Reporting live, Sara Zendehnam, ktvu, fox 2 news. Officials in the east bay are closely watching a coronavirus outbreak in concorde at a nursing center. Health Officials Say 13 people at san miguel villa have died of either suspected or confirmed coronavirus infections. We do not know when these people died. 62 people and 13 employees have tested positive. So far, more than 2200 nursing home residents have died from the coronavirus. Coronavirus cases among san quentin have exploded. The number of people now confirmed to have the virus is more than 300. The sharp increase comes after 121 inmates from chino were transferred to san quentin and mixed with the general population. The chino prison has been hit hard by covid19, or than 500 cases have been reported at the facility. At least three inmates have died. The state has what amounts to a scoreboard where it tracks how each county is doing on several measures. Those includes the number of tests and cases as well as the number of hospital beds available. In certain cases, counties can be added to a watchlist if numbers spike. If the numbers dont improve in two weeks, the county can be ordered to reimpose restrictions. Happening today, Health Officials in marin county will talk to employees of a Waste Disposal company where dozens of people tested positive for covid19. It happened at Marin Sanitary Service in san rafael. Some employees became sick earlier this month and were diagnosed with covid19. After that, all employees were tested. 43 employees tested positive. That is 15 of the workforce. We had two employees of the 43 get pretty sick. We had four, five, six employees who exhibited symptoms and went home right away to get tested. The others were pretty much a shock. They were asymptomatic. County Health Officials believe the outbreak is contained. They say it might have been transmitted between employees who were taking their brakes and did not wear masks or social distance. Happening today, top government Health Officials will testify before congress. Dr. Anthony fauci, the head of the cdc and officials from the fda will give updates on the Coronavirus Response as the states continue to reopen, despite increases in the number of cases nationwide. Last month, dr. Fauci eopen. Police are looking for a man a woman, who is believed to cough on a boy. Police say the woman was upset that a woman with a 1yearold child behind her in line was not properly socially distancing. Police say the suspect took off her own mask, not close to the childs face and coughed two or assault. Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call san jose police. This morning, police are looking for the gunman who shot ter 3 00 yesterday afternoon outside of a Residential Hotel on leavenworth near eddie. One witness says she was standing on the Street Corner when a man in a gray van drove by and started shooting. He drove by in a black van, i seen the gun in the window. I heard him shooting, everyone is getting down on the ground. I was scared. I got down. Investigators say all five victims are young men who are expected to fully recover from their injuries. Police are asking for witnesses or anyone with information to please come forward. The time is 6 09. This morning, details about the investigation into a Deadly Police shooting over the weekend. It happened on sunday afternoon. It was at an apartment in north temple drive after reports of a stabbing. They say a 19yearold man was holding a knife and he confronted Police Officers. The officer said they ordered him to put down the knife, but, instead, the suspect ran towards police, yelling, kill me. Thats when the officer opened fire. In this case, the officer, you know, in that position, is protecting himself. He used his Service Weapon to stop that young man from charging at him with a knife. The police chief says the footage should be available within the next few weeks. The victim was the suspects father who was treated and released. 1000 google workers have urged the company to stop selling services to Police Departments. According to reuters, 1600 employees of the Parent Company signed the petition. The document asked the company to take real steps to dismantle racism and accuses google of profiting off of racism with business contracts. The petition cited the sale of email, document editing and file storage tools to a Police Department in new york state, a google spokesperson says those tools will remain available for police. Some of the schools who might be renamed include francis scot sunset district, navarro sara elementary , Washington High School and john muir elementary. In petaluma, a protected display is under debate about Racial Justice. Posters supporting the black lives Matter Movement have become a contentious point at the park. Middle School Students call themselves the Kindness Committee and post uplifting signs around petaluma. Another group hosted Racial Justice signs on the display. One man from the neighborhood has been tearing them down, saying they are illegal. That is just not a healthy thing to be doing. So, why is he doing something that is so wrong and so antisocial . He was yelling at the children, the children are sobbing. It is just disgusting. The group is angry with police who accused the children of provoking the man. An investigation is underway after reports of a noose being found at the raceway over the weekend. On saturday, a worker at the race ray found a piece of twine tied in what appeared to be a noose hanging from a tree. The Sheriffs Office is investigating. Officials say they take this incident very seriously. They are dedicated to operating a facility that is welcoming to everyone. Fellow nascar drivers rallied behind Bubba Wallace after a noose was found in his garage on sunday. Yesterday, before the race at talladega, they pushed Bubba Wallaces car to the front of the line, showing solidarity. Hundreds of pit crew members followed. Bubba wallace is the only africanamerican nascar driver. He says he is sad about the incident, but it is not keeping him from seeking racial equality. The testing is available to everyone regardless of their immigration status. That site will be open from 1 00 to 7 to friday, then saturday from 9 00 to 3 00. Starting today, the nba is taking a big step to resume its season. Teams can have up to 4 players going to the Practice Centers in as many as eight players beginning in july. Today, the santa clara board of supervisors is expected to vote on a measure that would formally declare racism a Public Health crisis. Ktvus allie rasmus joins us to talk about how this will impact black lives matter and people dealing with covid19, allie . Reporter pam, three resolutions that the board will take up later this afternoon, a call for looking at things like hiring practices, addressing and mitigating work lace bias at county offices and agencies and considering how local ordinances and Health Policies may disproportionately affect people of color. They this morning, santa clara supervisors will take up three resolutions on social justice. One would publicly fund black lives matter, the other would declare racism a Public Health crisis. Another resolution was to support an amendment to reintroduce affirmative action at colleges. The naacp and other Community Activist groups in the south bay say that these resolutions are good first step. They want to see them producing concrete results in the future. This is not about symbolic gestures. It is about actual policy changes that could lead to the people freedom, and leaders in Santa Clara County. It is a hard stand to fight systemic racism and making the changes that will have meaning for the children who come long after us. Community organizers said they appreciate the countys effort, but they were also very upset that the city council did not reduce the Police Departments budget last week, rejecting their calls to defend the police. Dozens of demonstrators gathered outside of the Solano County das office yesterday, demanding that the das office immediately prosecute all Vallejo Police officers involved in shootings or recuse themselves from the cases. Civil rights attorney john represents the family of a man shot and killed by a Vallejo Police officer earlier this month. We will not accept the rationalizations, the false statements, the coverups, none of that we are going to accept. Most of the anger was directed at krishna abrams. Protesters say she refused to file criminal charges against any of the Vallejo Police officers involved in recent deadly shootings. Now, da abrams issued this statement, as a career prosecutor, i have always supported Law Enforcement and all members of the community who have been victimized by crime. Neither has affected my ability to objectively review and make decisions on cases. There is a showdown on Police Reform. Mitch mcconnell expects the vote to happen sometime tomorrow. Senate democrats wanted several amendments, including a nationwide ban on show colds and no knock warrants. They also want changes to a legal doctrine that protects Police Officers from most civil lawsuits. The republican bill does nothing, nothing, to reform the legal standards that shield police from accountability for violating americans constitutional rights. Large majority of americans support a large majority of good, decent, brave Law Enforcement reearn the trust for their vital institutions. The current order runs out at the end of the month. It prevents people from getting evicted because of the coronavirus. Tenants have up to a year to pay overdue rent. The Power Company is expected to outline the steps it has taken to reduce the number of planned blackouts that are expected to reduce wildfires. Solano county is one of the many areas that has been ravaged by wildfires in recent years. Pg es says it is halfway through its Vegetation Management program. That includes hardening more than 100 miles of power lines by installing stronger poles and putting some lines underground. Pg e crews are also working to separate the power grid into smaller sections. That would allow it to shrink the size of potential shut offs by about a third. The time is 6 48. San francisco is among many cities where there are complaints about loud fireworks at all hours of the day. Many say it has been happening for weeks, adding sleepless nights and terrified pets to all of the stress of the pandemic.
