The first we go over to San Francisco where another group gathered in San Franciscos Mission District this afternoon demanding justice for Sean Monterrosa. He was from San Francisco, and his family says he was murdered while kneeling and surrendering to police. This protest was held at 24th and mission street. The officer who shot and killed Sean Monterrosa said he thought that he had a gun but it turned out to be a hammer. The state attorney general announced a review of the Vallejo Police department. Reporter the state attorney general is stepping into performed the beleaguered Vallejo Police department grappling with the string of deadly shootings by officers. Experts with the state doj will take a look at use of force and antivirus policies to develop a comprehensive policing plan. It is a critical step for the Vallejo Police department. Reporter it has long been eroded even before the shooting death of Sean Monterrosa. We will be focusing on training, policy, and best practices and current and emerging resources. Police said an 18 year veteran fire through a police car window at Sean Monterrosa after mistaking a hammer for a gun. His family says he was kneeling and surrendering. He said the black americans, other people of color and the impoverished suffer the brunt of the system. The injustices range from the criminal Justice System to education. A criminal Justice System that treats people rich and guilty better than it treats people that are poor and innocent. You know that, and i know that. Why are we doing something about it . He also talked about the use of force by police. He says he has directed a commission on peace officer training to stop using chuckles and will end those type of holds. San franciscos mayor and the city supervisor are talking about a plan to redirect funds from the Police Department to the cities Africanamerican Community. It is still in the id phase. Days of unrest in San Francisco may have been sparked by the death of george floyd at the hands of minneapolis bans officers. The mayor and the supervisors say the roots why in policies that have harmed the citys black communities. Decades of disinvestment in the Africanamerican Community have been devastating. It is time for real change. Its time to put our money where our mouth is. We will redirect resources from the Police Department and make an investment in our community. Taking money from training or providing what the Department Needs could impact public safety. If we are understaffed, when someone calls they want us there before, right now. So just exactly where are these funds coming from . The supervisor said more money in the Police Department and more officers on the street dont mean a safer city. Investing in the black community with employment, housing opportunities and a collaborative relationship is the answer. The main thing is to come up where people can Work Together to keep people safe. This doesnt need to be either or with the 12 billion budget, there should be room for programs to aid the black community and provide for the Police Department.
