As of yesterday, 928 homeless , or marginally housed people, are safely sheltered in hotel rooms, while huge encampments line the streets all over San Francisco and we learn of new outbreaks and congregate settings every week. Reporter for her part, the mayor said its not as easy as the supervisors make it out to be. There is security, staffing and logistical issues that dont have easy answers. The mayor saying monday, as much as she would like to get the homeless into hotels, its easier said than done. Especially those with Mental Health or Substance Abuse issues. Getting people to just comply with basic requests like Wearing Masks or staying six feet away from not only one another, but even the people that are trying to help has been very difficult. The supervisors held an online News Conference to say the mayors excuses are wearing thin. Reporter they are saying the state and federal government can help cover the cost, shelter staff can be moved into the hotels and additional staff can be trained. They insist its a matter of political will and demand the mayor follow the law they passed. The board of supervisors of the city of San Francisco unanimously passed legislation. Reporter the supervisors say at this point there is still time for the mayor to work with them to try to get the citys 8000 homeless into hotels. They say if she does not they may have to start looking for a legal way of forcing her to do so. Some neighbors in san jose are protesting the construction of two tiny homesites that were recently fast tracked. The city is building one near the exit ramp of bernal road to monterey road and another one by 101. The protesters insist they arent against the tiny homes, but say the city has rushed to get the projects built during the covid19 crisis without community input. They call that quote, reckless and negligent. The big issue is they have suppressed the voice of the public and reduce Public Outreach during the covid19 crisis.
