Oakland Police Arrested two people so far in connection with the death of a man who was killed while chasing down the thief who stole a laptop. On wednesday, Oakland Police said they have arrested two suspects. The monte claire district are still concerned about a recent rash in crime. Its not enough. Its good that they were caught but its not enough. This is the condition that is going to continue i believe. Witnesses say the victim was working on his laptop on Tuesday Morning inside the starbucks. Someone walked in, stole his computer and ran to a waiting bmw. The victim grabbed on to the door of the suv but the driver took off which knocked the victim into a parked car. By the time i saw him he could not move at all. Nothing. Just like, you know, completely lying on the floor. The mans death is the last straw for many in monte claire which has been hit with a rash of bank robberies, car thefts, burglaries, and thefts. Its a loss of life that maybe will act as a wakeup call. Just last week this man stole ski jackets after casing the store for months. Owner tom riveli says hes fed up with the crime spree. My concern is it going to happen again. And as a business owner, a tax paying citizen as a resident of oakland for 65 years, i have rights as well. Theres a little bit of slowing on the very far right of the toll plaza but for the most part it is a nice drive. And we look at a lot of the dense fog here on the san mateo bridge. Tracking the flights into and out of sfo. Its early and theres not a lot but the fog is effecting flights there. In fact, speaking of the weather, i know a man. Ive got a got. Mark tamayo. Theres no fog here looking out towards the bay bridge and looking good to start off the c i know this week with a lot of people off they like to head to the coast. But keep in mind we have a pretty big swell out there with a high surf advisory. So all day for most of your thursday. Wave heights a good 15 to 20. San francisco closed out the year 2019 with the lowest number of homicide in 56 years. Last year there were 41 homicide down from 2015 when there were 40 singz homicides. That drop is due to team work between Law Enforcement and Community Groups focusing on those neighborhoods with high crime rates. However, San Francisco still has the nations highest property crime rate. Mostly driven by the high number of car breakins. However, San Francisco police say theyre making improvements there too. There were 600 fewer car burglaries for the first 11 months of 2019 compared with the year before. Now the police have increased their efforts to deal with the problem like having extra patrols time is 4 45. Inmates who sued San Francisco the Santa Clara County jail may be getting a settlement. San francisco has tentatively agreed to pay more than 2 2 million to inmates who were exposed to raw sewage. Bad plumbing caused toilets to back up into the cells for a year and a half. There was a similar situation at the District Attorneys Office which also had sewage leaks. The board of supervisors will have to approve an agreement first. Our time is 4 45. Workers in different parts of the economy are divided on a New California law of regulating independent contractors. State Assembly Bill 5 or the gig worker law is already facing a legal challenge. In essence ab5 could require companies to reclassify contract workers as employees qualifying them for benefits like minimum wage and paid sick days. Now i continue to watch some of these other commutes. The bay bridge traffic is looking already. Now as i was talking about this commute here, 580 at greenville road on the shoulder theres a minor injury crash there. That may be the reason why we have slowing pass. I checked in with the planes coming in theres no major delays for the planes because but theres some fog on the approach. Oh, yeah. Thats a very good helpful observation this morning. Ill be watching the fog reports kind of change quite a bit over the next the fog forms in one place. It goes away. And the conditions will change rapidly. Even on the commute this morning as well. But look at the quarter mile out toward livermore and the Oakland Airport down to about a half mile and in the Central Valley out towards the delta all these areas until 10 00 this morning. That happens typically especially for some of the inland spots you have a stable weather pattern that sets up after some rainfall and thats what were watching for this morning. Dozens of people spent new years day at the Golden Gate Bridge trying to save lives. The volunteer organization the Golden Gate Bridge yesterday talking to people who might seem like theyre thinking about suicide. The holidays can some people. And this Organization Says the Golden Gate Bridge is still one of the top suicide locations in the world. We talked to a man from iran who recently lost his son to suicide. Now he wants to bring hope to others. This is my son ben who took flight off the bridge. You can probably see the south tower on august 19th 130 odd days ago. He was 26 and he was a beautiful young man who had too much pain and im very grateful for the bridge watch angels and what theyre doing today. Now the Golden Gate Bridge district is right now building a safety net on the bridge trying to prevent people from jumping off. That project wont be finished for three more years.
