New this morning, just after midnight, Oakland Police moved in, cleared out a protest by homeless activists outside of oakland city hall. And you can see behind us, not much activity. The police are still stationed here but as far as temps are concerned, all of those have been cleared out. Though its easy to see there is a homeless crisis here in oakland, we have see seen a lot of people sleeping on the steps on any given night. Its something you can see here in downtown oakland. Understand this protest started yesterday morning. Protesters included homeless people, themselves and their supporters. They set up teem tent in the plaza. After an hours long protest they were shut down by Police Officers overnight. Police moved in, some of those protesters had to be physically carried out. We understand tents were broken down, people were detained, a dozen people were seen in handcuffs. And housing advocates say the city is not properly addressing the homeless crisis. Theres been an increase in homeless encampments in loke oakland and over the last twoyears there hasnt been any solutions to this homelessness problem. Reporter and, again, the protest started yesterday morning. Lasting several hours in to the night. From what we understand advocates say millions of dollars in funding has gone has not gone to a support services or oakland he homeless. And some of the advocates say that the tough shed buildings are unsafe because of the materials used and there are concerns people who live in them may get sick from the materials. At last check, we had checked in with the Mayors Office, but we were unable to reach anyone for comment. Its unclear if the people who were detained were cited or released or kept and detained for further questioning. Officers shut down the expressway at kurtner after a pedestrian was killed shortly after 6 last night. Police say a woman driving a toyota camry hit the man as he was walk across the be pressway. Driver stopped and is cooperating with police. They dont believe alcohol or drugs are a factor in the crash and the victims name has not been released. There will be mental healthcounselors at university of San Francisco after the university became aware of a student who was making threats and yelling obscenities on campus. We do have reports from parents who say that student had threatened to shoot up the school. The parents say they are concerned that usf officials didnt send out official notice about the threats. The school says the student was taken into custody by San Francisco police and there is no longer any threat. Its 5 05. First Court Appearance for one of the suspects accused in the deadly halloween night shooting in orinda. Dough meeko domes was arrested thursday on several gun charges. Frederick johnson was also arrested and charged. They were arrested days after four suspects were released from jail after the District Attorney decided not to file criminal charges. Five people were killed in that halloween night shooting. Nine others were hurt. People in union city are remembering two boys who were shot and killed in a School Parking lot over the weekend. It was saturday morning at 1 30 when the 11 and 14yearold identified as sean and kevin, were shot and killed in a van in the schools parking lot. 11 and 14 years old. Who would expect to see boys, children of that age in such a terrible situation. Reporter the gathering organized by a coalition of groups gave the people of union citys an opportunity to begin the healing process together. The community is hurting right now. The community is just dumfounded right now asking why. How . You know. This was 11 and 14yearold. I have grandsons who are exactly the same age 11 and 14. They claim machinery that was used to cut dry grass at one of the restaurants started the fire which burned for four days. He issued an executive order to make it easier for fire survivors to get into new housing. The order applies to victims of wild fires in four Southern California counties last month. Two Oakland Police officers are being hailed as heroes after saving the life of a teenage who had overdosed on drugs. Officers jose vega and dack Zachary Madison were at the eastmont substation when a man ran in saying his brother needed help. They pulled the 18yearold from the back seat of a car and started cpr but changed tactics when they were told that the teenage her used heroin and cocaine. The officers just learned how to use the life saving drug narcan. I touched the body and it was cold. No breathing and reaction was within 3 seconds no more than 5 seconds he started breathing again. He became a little more alert. And he got his pulse back. Its crazy how quickly they can come back after being fully unconscious and not breathing and not having a pulse by administering the narcan. Dough meeko domes was with arrested thursday and his arraignment is scheduled for 8 45 this morning here in martinez. He was arrested on charges of a felony in possession of a handgun and im anythings but not murder according to the Contra Costa County District Attorneys office. The charges are not directly related to the orinda shooting. Authorities say the gun found was not used in the shooting, but the Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office says its part of the investigation of the orinda shooting that killed five people on halloween. The bureau of alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives or atf helped the Sheriffs Office carry out a search warrant and raid last week. Ate rest was days after 5 other men were arrested in connection to the shooting. But were late rear leased when the das office didnt think prosecutors had enough evidence to file charges. The investigation is ongoing and we are work to analyze leads and evidence. And we want witnesses to come forward because we need their help. Reporter a second man was arrest Frederick Johnson was arrest on charges of a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as child endangerment.
