In the face of public outrage pg e president and ceo bill johnson standing by the decision for a Public Safety power shut off. He shows photos where the inspectors found the high winds blue tree branches into the wires. Thankfully the lines were not energized. The addition came to a high cost to customers it added up to half a million there. Critics questioned why the outages were necessary. I asked to do a complete and thorough and soon investigation on the circumstances around the power shut off. Pg e does not intend to reimburse anyone. The policy of all the utilities, when theres a weather event, which this is, the company does not think its liable for these costs. Why after months of planning pg e had communication failure. What we know is that the communication, the notify case acation notification, the web site, everything has been a failure. Johnson promised better communication with customers, resting text and emails. We need to get customers hooked up faster, work on the cost structure. Johnson apologized for pg e executives posting a party days before the shut down. It was insensitive. It was poor judgment given the timing of this. Pg e will have future shut downs if theres high prior risk weather. They have weather stations and pg e has added 200 new devices this year. Portions not affected by adverse weather to remain in service. I asked johnson if the devices mean fewer people will be impacted by shut down. He said yes. I asked how pg e will pay for the improvements they are seeking a rate hike in 2020. Well see if the changes will damp down the criticism. Pg e has rejected San Franciscos offer to buy the power lines in the city. The company sent a letter to the mayor saying the offer is too low. Pg e has completed inspections of the high voltage transmission line. They say 21 were in the south and east bay and four in the north bay.
