A morning for anyone visiting a popular lake. Stay out of the water where it is happening and the toxic crisis. Up next we will talk with the superintendent it we will check the conditions after we have been following some earlier crashes i am tracking a change in the weather pattern that will bring a drop and details coming up. This monday is the first day of school in the unified school district. It is one of the biggest in the district and the state. The district was led by San Francisco native who has been part of the Oakland School district. Lets talk about what is happening with the superintendent. Thank you for joining us. Monday is the first day of school so make sure you get some rest this weekend and we expect 56,000 students returning and we are excited about that. We believe we have some exciting things and we are excited to welcome them back. You are implementing some new programs targeted at middle schoolers. Our mission is to make sure every student has the skill they need to thrive so we are constantly looking at what we can do differently to make sure that is happening and we have middle School Reform going on we have revamping and reviving over the next couple of years we will make sure they are taking health and art and computer science. We are excited about making sure they have those skills. That is one change for them. Teachers are looking at this and we hope to move up to the high school and down to the elementary school. Over the last five years we know we have a crisis here affordability crisis in the bay area and especially in San Francisco. One of the things we have been able to do the average teacher salary has moved and 62 to 82 so we are excited and we want to make sure we retain the highest quality teachers and they need to be able to afford to live here. Is 82,000 enough wax even with where the state is and what they are providing this has been a priority. We are finding dollars and to be honest, we need to do more and we will continue to try to do more. You had a big hand in the other districts and we invited the superintendent she invited us to they went through a strike and they are cutting 20 million, how are they doing financially . Financially we are in as good a shape as we can be. We need more from the state and one of the big places we have been fortunate with is that our community has stepped forward the voters of San Francisco have approved taxes and this has helped us stabilize. We shouldnt have to go to the voters to get more it should be the state that is stepping up to say no, if we will provided we need to provide more funds. Parents are donated gallons of glue, boxes of tissue, disinfectant wipes, parents have a big hand in this. I want your take on a controversy the controversial mural. The board reversed an earlier decision the board actually voted to go into the process of the state mandate where we will review all kinds of options and as we are moving forward we are going to do what we believe is in the best interest of our students. We will go through this process and make that final decision what we are going to do. For as the mural is in one lobby of one of our high schools and we have 136 and what we are looking at is those students returning and doing what ever we can for them. I want to say, School Starts on monday, make sure you drive slowly around the schools. The mayor is talking about Pedestrian Safety.
