It was so bad as they put out some of a hot spots, the flames broke out just after 2 30 pm this afternoon. This hillside burned is very close to a densely populated area with apartments and Single Family homes. This fire did cause a traffic backup. Drivers were being asked to avoid that area as crews continue their work on putting out the fire. After two of the most devastating wildfire seasons in california history, fire chiefs across the state are looking at new ways to try to prevent the next disaster. Also to better respond when flames to break out. Joining me now, chiefs officer at the San Diego Supercomputer Center that uses ai to fight fires. Thank you so much for being here. This program, explain how it works. So this is an integrated data system that brings data from diverse groups, from platforms. To understand the conditions of what can happen. What information is being collected . What type of information is given the firefighters . When a fire happens, there many different types of data coming together. There are weather conditions that we need to understand. Landscape. Vegetation. And there is fire detection. And the detection can from satellites, it can come from cameras that are looking at the fires. Or there are official fires they can give information about the fire growth that is going on. So putting it all together and feeding that into a fire behavior tool that can actually understand. This could take hours at a time, through this type of system we can look at this. First, we can actually bring the data in the best possible way so that when we feed this into the fire model we are giving a good information. Also, any quick information we can then make these models scale. So if you have multiple fires or different types of centers, we could get some information. That way you can put your crews in the best possible situation to stop these firestorms friday. It is my understanding that already some departments are using the system. Including the los angeles fire department. They have been testing it for more than one year. What has a reaction been from this department . So as you said, fire is dynamic. You need to get ahead of it. We need to understand. We need these models where conditions are changing. Conditions are changing about fires. That the fire department, the orange county, you mentioned los angeles county, what they do is when there is a fire they get on the system and they have a call about the fire. They first understand the gross. At the same time, the response. They will be doing the modeling over and over again. So that they can actually understand what is going on. And really stay on top of it. Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with us about this new technology. It is not been used at least right now by some of those agencies in southern california. In washington, fox news. For boron all of these issues we are joined by immigration lawyer. We appreciate you coming today. Sort of a result revolving door it seems. Custom and Border Protection commissioner, john sanders is going to be stepping down. How much do you think this has to do with the criticism that he is facing over conditions in some of these detention facilities . First and foremost thank you for having me. This is a very important issue that we need to keep ringing attention to. Bringing attention to. I think the reason he is stepping out is because of the criticism. Voicing concerns about the catastrophic conditions, also at the border. Is as we know, the Border Patrol is struggling to deal with this massive influx of migrants coming to the southern border. Obviously, we are in at the same time about these migrants in particular, children, being held in awful conditions. How does the approach need to change . From the federal government . First and foremost, we need to deal with a horrific conditions. Attorneys have visited and reported to the Associated Press that they are seeing children suffering as a result of the Trump Administration immigration policy. You have 13 and 14yearolds taking care of infants and toddlers. They are living in unsanitary conditions without basic necessities and basic human ghts. They need to immediately remedy the situation so these children are in a safe environment. Where they give them food, proper sanitation, toothbrush, basic necessities that they need. We are hearing that over 300 children, a lot of them have been taken out. About 150 were brought back in. We are hearing reports about those conditions being improved. So the immediate need is to have basic conditions where they can survive and be able to care for themselves. I know that a lot of people here about what is going on. The crisis unfolding at the border. They want to help. They want to step up. Maybe they want to make donations. Do you get the sense that the federal governments is welcoming that kind of help . Or welcoming donations of food or clothing . Absolutely not. Their reports for my colleagues all across the country, theyre trying to raise funds for immigrant organizations to be able to get into the facilities. When attorneys are visiting these facilities, it is choreographed. There is not at open door where they can provide this. A lot of organizations are trying to raise funds, and the basic necessities, toothbrushes, clothing, diapers. They are not able to have access. We can continue to contact our local lawmakers and voice her concerns. And not allow these catastrophes and conditions to continue. Some attorneys who also visited mentioned to the Associated Press that some of these children who had flu like conditions were quarantined for weeks on then. We appreciate your onsite insight on all this. Certainly in important issue. We have to leave the conversation there. I appreciate you coming in. Thank you for your time. Thank you. Every day when i come to work, i engage with 4000 people. I speak to them. I say hello. I invite the men. I give them good graces going out. He provides a lot of smiles. He has been working at reporter working at bart. He joins me now from San Francisco where he will receive and award from the San Francisco Mental Health board for making lives better every day. William, welcome. Thank you so much. Im going to be here. First off, let me just say that that short film that you were featured in, it literally made me cry. Your approach to the job, the joy that you try to bring two people, it really is inspiring. What you do enjoy most about being a station agent . A station agent is a very exciting job. You meet people every day. Thousands of people. You can make a difference in their lives. And they make a difference in my life. It is just a wonderful thing to do. Every interaction is to be considered your opportunity to make a difference. It seems like you really do. It seems like you really do connect with writers. It is funny because i have read bart before. I feel like im sitting next to somebody who had a really terrible day and just wants to get home, they are angry, theyre frustrated. And it is almost as if they see you and their entire day changes . Yes maam. I understand that. The thing about being and agent, the frontline employee, it is emblematic of life. Every morning when you wake up you have to make a decision about what you are going to do and how you going to be. Because so many things you dont have control, you have control over yourself. With that in mind, when you decide to be a positive person, positive things happen. I like your philosophy. In that film, you talk about earlier in your life, feeling like you work kept in this. You said if youre in a corner or in a box, it is not necessarily because someone put you there. It is because you agreed to be in that box. How did you get out of the box . Just coming to terms with the fact that i have to be responsible for my actions. And that the thgs tha happened to me, are a direct result on how i affect lives in how i affect other people. It is not easy, but once you get in the mode of being self responsible, selfdirected. It gets easier. We are all in this world to try to be our selves, to work through different societal ills that we have. Like the person youre sitting next to on bart, those are human beings. You want to meet people where they are. I decided to do that. Is and you do very well. William, how do you feel about getting this award tonight . I am beside myself with enthusiasm and happiness. I am the frontline employee at bart. Believe me, i know what coworkers and employees, other station agents, train operators, who really making efforts. They are as deserving of this award is i am. I am not the guest of honor here. There are so many other people being recognized by San Francisco Mental Health board. I am just one of many. Im just glad to be counted among the many people that are trying to affect positive change in the society. We appreciate what you do. You are so humble as well. Again, congratulations. I hope to see you one day when i passed through bart. Thank you so much, i am looking for to that moment. Thank you. A well deserved honor. You may remember ktvu coverage. So the point of no return, it chronicles this journey, the launch of a solar impulse. So let me start with you. Explain to everyone what happens when this prototype launched for around the world. Sure, this was back in 2015, and they really were not sure how far it would make it. This was pushing the limits of the technology. In terms of energy efficiency, the size of the 747 in terms of the wingspan, but it is the weight of the car. It is extremely experimental. They set off and we were just compelled to capture this true 21stcentury adventure story. This is two pilots that are at the controls, taking turns and piloting a different length of this journey. Let me ask you, the most challenging part of the dirty, it sounds like it was the trip across the pacific from japan over to hawaii . Because you get all over open water. You better hope that you have enough power to get you where youre trying to go. Yeah. I lifes were on the on. And experimental aircraft trying to cross and ocean on solar power. It was completely out of the box. A lot of people did not think that they would succeed. They had these two Extraordinary People that were just determined to make his statements about changing the way the we go about doing things. And proving what clean technology, clean energy that we had only begun. It was the dawn of this revolution. That is the statement that they wanted to make. And they did. It was really touching go. It was a true adventure. This whole notion of a solar powered aircraft, it started back in the early 2000s. What was sort of the genesis for this project . The film project . For the prototype. And for you guys to chronicle it too. The idea for the plane, came from the idea of the flight around the world with a hotair balloon. He thought, what about doing this with no fuel . Could it be possible . The Airline Manufacturer said no. Probably not. He spent over a decade building the team and trying to prove that you could do it. That they could do it without a drop of feel. Is and they ultimately did it. You think that this is the future of air travel . Do you see a point where the masses are traveling on this . They may deploy solar, as a partial energy for planes in the future. But the big revolution is in electric. In fact, one of the pilots Just Launched his first, he went on to create the First Electric plane out of his company. It is a two seater, small plane, but it is purely electric. It is like the tesla of airways. The airbus and all of these companies are investing in electrics. For small, starting out with two cedars, 10 cedars. It will be hard to get over the ocean on electric. It is exciting. A dramatic story being told here about the slight around the world. Obviously, a very Important Message when you talk about the consumption of fossil fuels and the need to address climate change. We will have a screening coming up tonight in oakland. If you want to check out the film they could do so. It is called point of no return. I appreciate you both coming in. Thank you very much for your time. I appreciate it.
