Everybody. It will feel cooler. 50s on the lows. But the humidity continues to be pretty high. Even though the high temps have been coming down a little bit. Hurricane irma, category 5, moving into well, getting close to puerto rico right now and the leeward islands. 185 Miles Per Hour. The pressure bottomed out at 14 millibars or 29. 66 of mercury. That is amazing. The track looks to be now at least the gfs and the euro take it into about almost the florida keys. Just off florida. Then take it along the atlantic side. And then bring it inland monday morning, South Carolina and georgia. I think the update is coming in within the hour from the National Hurricane center. We will see if they still buy into that. Either way, there will be impacts for the weekend. Our low cloud deck is there. Higher clouds continue to filter in around the low that keeps the humidity factor high. Temperatures in the 60s coming down temperatures in the cities still coming down. 60s but coming down to the 50s. 67 in sfo. 50s to the north. You can see how everything is coming in from the low. That drags across high and mid level clouds. This one will get bumped in by that system. Another one will take its place. That will continue to i think play into our weather early next week. 60s, 70s, 80s, and a few 90s. Higher humidity the farther inland you go. Cooler coast and bay. Another bad day for the east shore when it comes to slow traffic and a long commute unfortunately. That motorcycle accident remains there. Now traffic is backed up before highway 4. If it continues, this will be backed up all the way to the carquinez bridge. Motorcycle accident blocks two left lanes on 80 westbound near el portal. If youre getting on in richmond, theres a spot where you will wonder where everybody s then it slows in berkeley. If you drive from vallejo to San Francisco, it is a long commute. It is taking an hour to make the drive from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze. That is not usual. Even for a show and crowded day, that is a lot more than normal. When you get to the bay bridge, you will see a backup there as well. This is more typical. 880 traffic is slow driving through. If youre driving on the altamont pass, there is slow traffic there as well. The east bay traffic as we pull back here will be slow. What has become kind of normal is the 680 slowdown coming out of pleasanton to the sunol grade. Hurricane irma is dropping rain and winds of 225 Miles Per Hour across islands in the northwest caribbean this morning. The category 5 storm is continuing to move northwest. Martin as it gets slammed by irma. The small island was blasted overnight by the eye wall of the storm. This video taken by a camera before it was knocked off line by the storm. Early reports show there is major destruction as well as blackouts across the island of saint martin as well as st. Barts. Some people have been taking to social media, posting their location and asking for help. People living in the florida keys are stocking up with supplies and making evacuation plans ahead of the powerful storm. Schools are closed for the rest of the week there and residents are being told to evacuate now. The process is expected to go in phases. But traffic is still going to be very heavy as the week progresses. Its going to be crazy getting out here. It will be grid lock. Getting out of the keys, theres only one way in and one way out. It will be crazy. With a category 5 coming at the florida keys, we could be looking at wave height thats would literally put the ocean over the islands. We have to remember we are an Island Community and islands go under water. Frightening thought there. There will be no shelters set up in the florida keys. Thats why people need to evacuate. The line of traffic already building to get out of the florida keys heading towards the mainland. It will only get worse over the next couple of days. Some red cross workers from the bay area are heading east as it moves closer to the mainland. They picked up supplies from the agencys warehouse in alameda before beginning the fourday drive to florida. The workers are expected to arrive there and help out in Disaster Relief events just as the storm is expected to hit the florida straits. As we showed you live at the beginning of the 7 00 hour, Congressional Democrats held a News Conference early this morning to demonstrate their opposition to President Trumps announcement yesterday that he is moving to end daca, the program that protects young immigrants from deportation. We all agree that president s decision to end daca is a despicable act of political cowardness. Cowardness squared because he gave the announcement to his attorney general instead of just making the statement himself. Kamala harris also spoke. They called it irresponsible and said she talked with senior members of the Trump Administration who confessed to her they had never spoken with or met any daca recipients. President trumps repel of daca means that many could be deported in six months unless Congress Takes action. He said that president obama had overstepped his executive order. He Gave Congress six months to find a solution. Republican senator lindsey gram supported President Trumps decision but is discussing a bipartisan dream act that durbin introduced 16 years ago. We will start off with a look at in fact, i can bring up 280 if i can. Northbound 280 in san jose, there it is. On the right you can see see it is moderately heavy. On the left, traffic is slow approaching the san jose state exit. Looking at traffic on 101, 280 and 85, all of the freeways are very crowded getting into the valley. It definitely is different from what we saw in june, july, part of august. Now were in that fall pattern where a lot of people are driving to work almost everywhere you look is crowded. So i dont want to alarm you, but this is the new pattern going on. 680, highway 4, a lot of people have been on 680, avoiding 80. As gasia mentioned, it has been slow because of earlier problems. It is backed up from just after the carquinez bridge all the way down to the maze. So the theme is almost everywhere you look, youre going to have a tough one, even getting on to the bridge. I want to take a look at 101 in san rafael. The happy exception. Yeah a little congested but traffic has been doing very well here from novato to san rafael and all the way down to madero. Lets bring in steve at 8 18. You will appreciate this, sal. Today is the first time that san bruno has fallen below 70 degrees since last thursday. San bruno. That is hard to believe. Wow. How about my peeps in daly city. I dont have that yet. Okay. Using sfo climate data, the average low is 56. Not to go below 70 since last thursday is rare. You dont see that here very often. It has been warm. But it is running a little cooler coast and bay. The fog came back for somement you can see the satellite image right there. The tropical clouds continue to be funnelled up by the low off shore. Bringing up monsoon moisture. Late in the season for that. Some of that coming up. You see around las vegas and arizona and Southern California. And bands off shore. These funnelled up. They can go from sunny to mostly cloudy here. Possibility of some scattered showers more likely over the higher enter ape. I would think up in the sierra. The fog is there. The air quality is getting a little better. If you are heading up to the sierra, they are looking for afternoon thunderstorms. Same for northeast Southern California. But there is still plenty of moisture. Some of the afternoon heating would not surprise. A little cooler to the north. Upper 50s, 60s. Look at san jose, 68 degrees. Sfo, 68 degrees. Brentwood, 71. Livermore, 68. Concord, 68. Some of the east bay temps, upper 60s. Dublin at 68. A little cooler by el cerrito and berkeley and even vallejo. There are bands rotating around the low which will swing in here. If you get the sun, you will probably get clouds later on. This will get kicked in tomorrow. Another low will take its place. Then it will sit there and kind of wobble around all the way into the weekend and early next week. These are tough to forecast. Theyre called cutoff lows. Cut off from the main circulation. They have a mind of their own. This could be something to keep an eye on for early next week, possible shower activity. 60s, 70s to 80s to 90s. And some locations inland are really muggy. Coast and bay temperatures are coming down. Yes, your humidity is high because the fog is back. At least the temperatures are cooler. It is kind of a push, if you will. But cloudy and cooler thursday and into friday. A quick warmup on the weekend. I noticed the fog coming in. Where have you been. On vacation. Thank you, steve. It is incredible to see so many warm nights. I would agree with that. Using sfo, the average high is 74. The average low is 56. So to not get down below 70 for that long a time is really hard to believe. But its been happening for many here. 67, san carlos. Menlo park, 67. Fremont says we are too. Look at moss beach. Those are cooler by about 7, 8 degrees. Some of the temperatures though influenced by the fog. So that helps cool things down. The humidity is really high. 75 to 97 around the bay area at the 8 00 hour. And you can see everything is coming up from the south. The wind flow. That makes for upper 60s here palo alto, san jose. 24hour temperature change. Santa rosa is down 11. Napa airport down 9. Cooler there. Still off 6 for hayward and also san jose and livermore. Is Something Better there on the east shore freeway. Here is the thing, weve been Getting Better right. But it is slow everywhere. Everybody is out on the road. Those who drove their kids to school had to turn around and get back into the commute. Theyre out there. Good morning, everyone. Lets look at 280 in san jose where we have slow traffic from here up to the valley. Cal train is having a better day than yesterday when we had issues with detours and slow traffic or slow trains on the tracks. But this morning, we do have a decent commute on cal train. But throughout the south bay, we see traffic that has been heavy all over the place. Lets go to 101 and 85 and even all the expressways are jammed into that west valley. And this is not unusual. Just one of those days where everyone is on the road. Same thing with the east bay commute. Just a lot of slowing here. And youre used to it. One thing that i have noticed, there was an earlier accident eastbound on 580 out of castro valley. Usually not this slow getting out there. But this morning it has been slow. 680, a lot of people used it to get away from 80. We had a big slowdown there. People have been using the concord to walnut creek corridor. Now more people are on highway 24. 880 is slow as well. Pretty much everywhere is slow. Just throw in alameda. Slow getting off the island this morning over to 880. And at the bay bridge toll plaza, we are 25 minutes before you get on to the bridge from the maze. 8 33. Lets go back to the desk. Hurricane irma is crossing the northeastern caribbean this morning, heading towards puerto rico and possibly south florida. Ktvus jessie gary is live in San Jose City hall with what the city is doing to make sure that the residents stay safe. Reporter gasia, that is exactly right. Were coming up on seven months since the flooding in the creek last winter. Sam liccardo is joining us, the mayor of san jose. How is the revamping or tweaking of the citys action plan . Weve been focusing on the warning system. We know that is what failed us in in february. I think our Recovery Efforts were very good. I think we saw incredible outpouring of support from the community and staff and first responders. We worked on improving the warning system. As mike tyson says, everybody has a plan until youre hit in the mouth. When youre hit in the mouth, you understand how good your plans are. Reporter exactly. Going forward, tweaking the warning system, what is it that residents need to do once the warning goes out . Well, we want to ensure that folks have all of the information that they need to get themselves and their families out before we need to send in first responders. We know then were stretched. And were trying to get to folks who are most unable to be able to move. Seniors, those with disabilities, et cetera. And so being able to get information out in multiple ladies and gentlemens, using digital means but also Old Fashioned means, knocking on doors, we need to have those systems in place and were putting in place. Anything else happening in city hall that we might want to know about, mayor. It is all happening here. Were looking a lot at what is going on with the hurricanes in houston and soon to be florida. The reality is that with all of these cities, were recognizing the real challenges in having shelters too closely located to one another. You have to more of them dispersed throughout the city. Have portable pumps out there. Thats what cities like san jose are taking notes for. Reporter so you might be in the business of getting more portable pumps and moving the shelters a little bit, changing the locations of them. Absolutely. You have to have them well dispersed. It doesnt work to expect thousands of people to get to one location. Reporter mayor, thank you very much. I know youre a busy man. Appreciate the time this morning. Hopefully we will be able to do this once a week. Always a pleasure, jessie. Reporter appreciate it. City of san jose looking to get more pumps and also a plan to disburse shelters.
