Reservoir about 20 miles west of the downtown area. Southwest of houston officials alerted residents just before eight warning them to get out because one of the levees was breached near a neighborhood. Evacuations and rescues are underway in that area. The president and first lady met with texas Emergency Responders and the states governor this morning to talk about the continuing rescue and relief effort and the work ahead for local and federal officials. We want to be looked at in five years, ten years from now is this is the way to do it. Not turning turning anyone away but we need to expand our capacity. In that railroaded we have made the official request to fema. We need additional help and so we have asked them to provide supplies and cots, food, for another 10,000 people. Reporter that was the houston mayor talking about the need for more space. There is 30,000 people in shelters in the houston area. The city of dallas already opened the doors to its Convention Center and we are told to expect as many as 10,000 people. Close to 6,000 people have been rescued from their flooded homes, cars and buildings and the flooding problems continue. The army corp of engineers said another reservoir called the Baker Reservoir is expected to over flow by tomorrow and the rivera cording to the National River service will reach about ten feet above flood stage by thursday. Harvey isnt over. Its moving toward louisiana. Areas around new orleans are under flash flood advisories. There is a continued and great fear that we havent seen the worst yet when it comes to the damage and impact of this historic storm. Thank you. Dallas opened up a mega shelter today. A large evacuation shelter ready to house 5,000 people. Bus loads of people may arrive today. The parking garage will be part of that shelter. Hundreds are already staying at three city centers. Nearby private and Public Schools also creating spaces for students to go to school. Donations continue to roll in for a fundraiser started by jj watt. He started a fundraiser over the weekend. He pledged to match the first 100,000 raised. Just checked the u carry website and found that the Flood Relief Fund has raised more than 1. 2 million. Campaigns goal has been increased to 1. 5 million. Joel osteens church is denying reports that it closed its doors to houstons flood victims. Lakewood church the former Compact Center plans to open today for people affected by flooding. The 606,000 square foot church is at the old cam pact center. The former home of the houston rockets. Yesterday lakewood posted that the venue was not accessible because of flooding and many criticized them for not taking people in but they disputed that. It claims it never closed its doors and that it has been a center for those in need. It says that the church is prepared to shelter people after city and county shelters reach capacity. Anheiser busch stopped production of its beer to start canning drinking car to send to the houston area. The company said its delivering more than 15a thousand cans of water to American Red Cross facilities. The water is scheduled to arrive today. A gator sanctuar is saying that 350gators are at risk of escaping. They said the water is almost high enough to go over the fences that close in the gators. They are were able to catch two, 13foot ones and put them in a trailer to keep them from escapes but there is not much they can do to stop them all. They also house crocs and snakes but they were all put into trailers. There are crews from here in the bay area and really all over the country in the houston area right now helping rescue thousands of people stranded in their homes. The reservoir now spilling over for the first time in history with local officials saying they are in uncharted territory as to the impact that will have on the city. We are trying our best to wrap our hands around what this will do as it interacts with subdivisions, roadside ditches, underground drain systems. Police responded to a call about an active shooter yesterday afternoon in clovis. Witnesses say that the shooter appeared to be just about 16. Masked protesters vandalized the student unioning causing a hundred thousand dollars worth of damage and then marched on berkeley. Since thence there have been several demonstrations turning in to violent confrontations. The most recent was this last sunday. Two students however think that the event should go on. I dont think that hate speech necessarily is a threat or can be seen as violence. No, i dont think that the event should be canceled because i think everybody deserves to voice an opinion as long as they arent violent. You are only doing yourself a disservice if you only hear what you want to hear. Berkeley said we want to make clear that the university didnt invite any of the speakers in question. We have neither the legal right or the ability to interfere with or cancel their invites based on the beliefs of the speakers. The university does say that it does have discretion when it comes to Public Safety and its priority is to keep both the speaker safe and the Community Members safe during these events and thats what they will prepare to do as they move forward in the planning. In berkeley. Thank you. Experts say the destruction caused by harvey will likely take a great toll on the United States economy. According to projections the storm could cause 40 billion in Property Damage and cost 7 billion in lost economic output from restaurants and retailers. The red cross offices have been busy with calls from people that want to help. Chevron has contributed 1 million. Amazon and google are matching donations. The Salvation Army is taking donations saying the need will continue in the weeks and months ahead. Its horrible. Its just one of those tragedies and the need is great already and as the storm goes away the need will be even greater. We saw the picture a couple minutes ago clearing up in downtown for now. Yes. It looks like this system is finally pushing out toward the east and that is great news for houston. Its not gone completely. Giving you a look here. The winds still 45 miles an hour. You can see off shore still in the gulf. Northeast at eight miles an hour. Thats the movement. Its moving quicker than we have seen so far in over the weekend. It was moving at about two miles an hour. We really want it to move and that didnt happen. Thats why houston was hammered for the entire weekend from about friday and through monday. Here is a look at what the going on right now. You can see as it continues to move in this direction its pushing that the Northeast Corner or the Northeast Quadrant of the storm out over in areas of louisiana now and that means houston will begin to get a bit of a break. If we slide in closer we still have light rainfalling overhasteon but this is what was falling over houston for a good 71 hours. That has shifted and thats great news. Im counting three out here right now. Then ended up crashing in to the apartment building. About a third of the car went inside the structure and fortunately it was below an apartment so no residents will be displaced. Before the crash San Jose Police got a call around 11 00 last night. People reported seeing a man with a firearm near the intersection of winchester and cadillac. When officers arrived they learned it was a more dangerous situation. We had a call about 11 00 at winchester and cadillac regarding a subject with a firearm. When officers responded and started interviewing witnesses the suspect vehicle happened to drive by. Reporter while police interviewed witnesses the suspect returned. Thats when officers pursued him as he tried to get away from police. The suspect crashed in to the apartment building. He was taken in to custody a short time later and taken to the hospital as a precaution after the crash. Now fortunately nobody was hurt. The group that the man allegedly fired at, nobody was hit by gun fire. Police say that none of the officers were hurt. The man was just taken to the hospital as a precaution. In san jose. Its a Monthly Forum hosted by paul chambers. That started last year and was held in richmond for the first time last night. People talked about white supremacy. The violence in charlottesville and the reversal of the ban on local police having access to surplus military gear. The next barber shop will take place in oakland on september 18th. You heard of the talk . Parents telling their children about the birds and the bees. Some families of color have a different kind of talk. One about power, police and skin color. The conversation started after an incident with a Police Officer that left them feeling like they had been racially profiled. That night they say that the time had come to have the talk with their young boys about how to interact with police if as they told their son when they are stopped by law enforcement. Things like using polite language, never showing frustration and not making sudden moves so as not to escalate. They said society and police may see them as a threat because of the color of their skin. It was hard because they are our babies like they should be able to benign or ten and play and not have to worry about this type of stuff at that age. These should be adult problems. People on the golf course golfing with him and around him called the police, started cpr and then called the clubhouse where they knew there was an aed put in there by the local rotary club about a year ago and people at the clubhouse, staff at the clubhouse took the aed and jumped in to the golf cart and rushed out to the scene. There unott instructions of the operators the aed, shocked the patient into a normal heart rhythm as the Fire Department arrived to stabilize and transport the patient to the hospital. All you have to do is turn it on or open the lid and the machine will wake you through everything you need to do. The machine has safe guards to make sure the patient really needs to be shocked. It also prevents accidental shocking of the person applying it. All police and fire units now have aeds along with every school and scores of other public and private facilities city wide. Many were supplied by organizations that raised money to donate the thousand dollars per unit. He did go through a little bit of a procedure and he is i believe the terms were in full recovery with no deficits.
