Well, developing news, a 4th suspect has been charged with a murder in killing of Oakland Police officer twan lay lay was shot and killed in late december while responding to a burglary right near jack london square. So if you are planning to make your way up here, please be very careful. But the National Weather service has said going to reach impossible driving conditions. And thats where it is going to be virtually impassable out there. Heres dimon peek up at lake tahoe. We have 4 to 8 feet of snowfall expected at lake level at lake tahoe. And its only going to look more dramatic through the day today. Bay area. We do have light showers this morning. Sierra mostly light to moderate snowfall. As of right now. But as i mentioned, all this does pick up as that massive lowpressure area drags in with that plenty of energy as well. Some really cold air also very unsettled. So we do have an opportunity. For thunderstorms in the bay area as we make our way through the day thunderstorm potential in them north bay this morning, north bay, youre going to be our most active or during Morning Hours with lighter showers for the rest of the bay area. Into the afternoon, though, well start to see that thunderstorm activity spreading southward. Redwood city around 04 45pm seeing some very heavy rain cloud to ground lightning likely and continuing to see that potential into the evening tonight. This is really that bolt of energy that just slams right on into the bay and into saturday morning that low elevation snow fall going to be really coming down for upper elevations. Snow level is going to fall to 1500 feet come tomorrow morning. That means that we will have 3 to 6 inches of snowfall in some of the north bay mountains while feet of snowfall piling up in the sierra donner summit, going to be completely impassable as we work our way through the day today, tonight into tomorrow as we do see winter storm warnings in portions of lake and mendocino counties and blizzard warnings up in the Sierra Nevada snow blowing snow and drifting snow winds as high as 75 to 80 Miles Per Hour will drop tree limbs into roadways. See, youre not just reading into feet of snowfall, but also a lot of debris in the roads. Power outages looking very likely for a lot of spots. It is not a forecast to be wanting to be in the sierra this weekend. As for where were at with our rainfall here in the bay, we will be looking at a couple inches likely through the weekend and even more likely into next week. We do have high surf at the coastline. 15 to 20 foot, breaking waves up and down the coast with high surf advisories and strong winds for the bay. Maybe not quite as strong as the sierra but will still be seeing 30, 40, even 50 Miles Per Hour. Gusts. Thats some high Wind Warnings and advisories are self back here at home. Governor gavin newsom now facing uncomfortable questions after a new law appears to favor a large donor to his campaign. So in is californias new fastfood minimum wage law . It has some notable exceptions, including the panera bread chain, but also any other chain that make spread. Last year, though, newsom signed that law to increase the minimum wage to 20 per hour at most fastfood change. But again, the exception was made specifically for change that make bread and sell it. And that includes panera. This week, a bloomberg article suggested that the exemption was made for newsom donor and panera bread franchisee, a bay area native greg flynn who went to the same high school as newsom. The article says he expressed concern to the governor that it would hurt his business, including the 24 panera. Bread franchises that he owns across the state. Republicans in the legislature are demanding an immediate ethics investigation. Weve got complete ethical problem going on here where a billionaire Business Owner has put in a special exemption into a bill. And we dont even know how it got in there in in the first place and then has made over 150,000 in Campaign Contributions to the governor. This is unacceptable that friends of the party in power get exemptions and thats not right. And if this is a bad law for one company, its probably a bad law for every again, this is an allegation. The allegation is that that exemption benefits panera, but also many other restaurants that make their own brad, the Assembly Member who authored the law says he was not directly involved in the negotiations and has no idea how the exemption made it into the bill. He also says he was not aware of any relationship between newsom and flint. I carried i dont and ive become more aware i wasnt in response to newsoms spokesperson issued the following statement. It says, quote, the governor never met with flynn about this bill. And this story is absurd. Our legal team has reviewed and it appears panera is not exam from the law. Sources tell us the board of supervisors president aaron peskin, were officially into the mayoral race sometime next week. But sources do say that he could be launching this campaign as early as next week. And the reason behind it will could be because its based in part on former San Francisco mayor mark farrell decision to also enter the race. Now, the idea behind that is that theres currently no prom aggressive candidate. In the rain east. Currently supervisor peskin serves as the president of the San Francisco board of supervisors and hes been on the board on and off since early 2. Thousands currently, his term is set to end out later this year. If he does officially joined the race, he could be joining incumbent mayor london breed supervisor ahsha safai fi philanthropist daniel lurie and former San Francisco mayor and supervisor mark farrell. Now a poll done in february by the San Francisco chronicle show that a majority of residents do not approve of the way that mayor london breed is currently running the city. This poll included more than 800 likely voters with more than 70 disapproving of the mayors performance. The poll also showed that voters are disappointed with how the mayor has been handling public safety, homelessness, drug overdoses and housing affordability. When the question of who residents are leaning towards for mayor. Well, former interim mayor mark farrell got the highest percentage out of all the candidates. A recall election would take place then sometime next june. 63 is the time a new bipartisan bill at the State Capitol wants to increase penalties for traffickers who target children and teens. So the authors of the bill say that current law with a few exceptions classifies the solicitation of a minor for as a misdemeanor. The bill, however, will reclassify commercial with a minor as a felony. And this will lead to an increase in jail time and a fine of up to 25,000 and a requirement that anybody convicted must register as a offender.
