Kron 4 s Charles Clifford joins us live from the south bay with more on that. Hey, charles. Good afternoon. Well, this is flood preparedness week here in california. Officials are asking people to be ready. Californias rainy season usually runs october to april, but this winter, we will see el nino conditions, which traditionally has meant warmer temperatures and more rainfall. And that means a higher likelihood of flooding here in the south bay, the Santa Clara ValleyWater District has been clearing out the creeks, including guadalupe creek, silver creek and coyote creek in preparation for potentially wet weather. The city of san jose is also clear thousands of storm drains at a press conference on wednesday morning. The city along with ali water and the National Weather service are advising people to be prepared. Its really important to be prepared. Now. Prepared ahead of time to know your risks. Know your hazards. And in no those places to go to find that critical information that you need in order to protect your property as well as your light. Now, officials are also recommending that folks check with your city or county, a local Water District to find out where your near sandbag station is in case you need to get sandbags. If theres flooding. They also recommend having a go bag, ready to go in case you need to leave home on short notice and they recommend signing up for emergency alerts in your area. All right, back live now. They also say that folks find out if their home, their apartment, where they live is in a flood plain or if it might be an extra creek or stream somewhere that might be in danger of flooding if the rains too much, just know how much risk you are. You have. But for now in the south bay, Charles Clifford kron, 4 news, all of that. Very good advice. Thank you, charles. Just the newsroom. Fortyniners head coach Kyle Shanahan says brock purdy. Not clear whos going to be able to play sunday if he kaptur that sam darnold would get the start against the bengals on sunday. The San Francisco giants have introduced their new manager bob melvin. He is a bay area native who says being named the teams next skipper big dream. A dream come true. Kron fours erin wilson joins us live from oracle park. Aaron, what to see 100 out. Well, catherine, i can tell you he sounds very excited to be here. Excited to be back home where he grew up, excited to be back home where he also managed for the oakland as but also played his catcher for the giants. And takes home to a whole new level because not only has he play for this franchise, but now hes leading this franchise trying to revitalize that winning way that they had just a few years ago when they brought home 3 World Series Champions within championships within years of each other. And so we talked about today being a full circle moment it any other moment in his life was one. Its this one because obviously hes excited to be here and hell be here for a little while. They have locked him in on this country through 2026. Now farm on the teams president has also been by principle, not on paper and pen just yet. He has been extended through 2026. Along with milk. So thats exciting. Now, when you think about the fact that it was tough for melvin to get here. Well, it wasnt too tough because san diego actually didnt put up much of a fight. He was managing diego for the last 2 seasons. And according to apartment today, there was no compensation, a one in or the other for bob melvin to come here now, im sure that the deal is still being worked out in ways that will understand in the near future. But until then, like i to myself, if there was pressure to get this team back to their winning ways in, well, this is what he had to say. I wouldnt say it pressure . Theres always pressure when you go out and play. Its more responsibility that i feel here even more. So maybe then wherever ive been because of the fact i grew up here. So, you know, pressure just part of it all. But the expectation is going to be to win here from day one and and definitely have the resources to do it. Definitely have the resources to resources rather to do it in. They will need to use those resources in the offseason of course, round out this roster ithe way that they feel that they can be competitive because up against division rivals, they will definitely have something up again. So something to go up against because they have strong roster. De la dodgers are expected to be very aggressive in the offseason. It people are hoping the giants do the same. Right now. They stopped a little bit about the luxury tax but not much. And i dont think that it sounds like this an issue for them. So well just have to wait and see how this offseason pans out. But i can tell you right now, bringing in bob melvin just weeks after letting go of kepler. Theyre already moving in trending a what seems to be the right direction. Catherine, ill toss it back to you in the studio. Thank you. And i guess well find out how it goes. But sounds exciting. Thanks, karen. A fall snowstorm heading to Northern California and the Sierra Nevada this week expected to hit today, probably lasting through. Grogan is here. Its not like nice. It does look if they were showing video before. That was definitely not this system to seem like a lot look anything like that. I know its a little bit of snow that look like its from the middle of winter, weve got all that snow last winter. But theyre just getting a little bit of snow. Ill talk about that just a second. Lets talk about the bay area because look at the clouds, especially here on the mount tam cam getting very foreboding. That is the same system thats set to bring that snow to the sierra. And it certainly bring snow well to the north of us in places like montana and idaho. But for us, i want to talk about the sprinkles that might be coming to the north bay same system. You can see it kind of falls apart, but not out of the question that those clouds bring a few sprinkles, maybe even a light shower for you. I think up north of the golden gate is about all thats going to see that as we get into this evening. Obviously, you see the clearing very quickly. And that sets us up for a really nice day tomorrow with some nice sunshine. Now, how much rain . Well, yeah, 107 inch, not a whole lot. So just be careful. If youre driving, you might be seeing a little bit of a wet road there up in the north bay. This is the snow that were talking about. And i know those who are skiers like to see where its coming from cold air from the arctic rushing down. You can see some of these temperatures up in canada there in the teens. Now the 20s. But even like seattle right now sitting at 48 degrees and you can see in spots like a in montana at 20 degrees. So thats that cold air being brought down from the jet stream and the success of low pressure systems helping to deliver that. So today were just seeing those clouds increase that north bay chance of showers. Were going to see this cold air reinforce as another front tracks through on friday. So thats going to stay a little cool. Not just today where you can see temperatures will be struggling to get 70 degrees. Maybe if were lucky. But also as we get tomorrow, the next couple of days wanted to start with halloween is next tuesday. Looking pretty good. Were going to pick up the temperatures a little bit. I think our trick or treaters will be dry and also looking out for some 60s while their trickortreating. But a little chilly as we head across the next few days. To you. Thank you, kyra. Today you probably need a jacket if youre going to be out and as those clouds are taking over. And the reason for that, take a look at this map and take your eye up to those winter storm watches and warnings that you can see. Thats because of the snow coming down in some of those spots. But its also because of the cold air rushing in, right . Thats helping to create that snow. And in fact, were seeing some of those snowflakes fly right now in tahoe. You can see in kirkwood skiers are happy to see that first going to snow. Now this is where we were looking earlier today. You can see all of lake tahoe, unfortunately, not so much as we look at it now bring you down to the surface of time. So as we bring it back, San Francisco, you can see weve got a little wind. Weve got some clouds are rolling in. Temperatures are certainly cool out there. You can see it here downtown francisco about 60 degrees. San jose hit the 70 degree mark. But pretty much everybody else in the 60s and some of the coastal spots still hanging out in the for a day to day. The wind is picking up and this is going to be with us as we go throughout the night tonight. So thats why i mention you might jacket if youre headed out as far as rain is concerned, not a whole lot of it out there. You can see how quickly its going to clear out, but we could see a sprinkle or 2 in the north bay. Really . Its all about the cool air. Just kind of keeping it cool for the next pfew days, even into the weekend as we get some sunshine back and then we get into trick or treat timing on tuesday. Were going to be looking out for some pretty good weather for trick or treaters. Looks like we will stay dry and get just a little bit warmer to back to you. Thank you.
