The conflict began on saturday when hamas fired into israel launching an unprecedented attack thats now killed close to 2000 people. A top Israeli Military officer says the death toll in israel from hamas has surpassed 1000 authorities in gaza and the west bank say 850 people have been killed in fighting there. Israel has been retaliating with relentless airstrikes in gaza vowing to topple hamas. Rulers of the palestinian territory. The un is reporting at least 200,000 people have been displaced now in San Francisco, people gathered tonight at dolores park for a public prayer for both palestinians and israelis. Son for Sarah Stinson was there and she joins us now here in the studio with the story. Sarah. Yet tonight, it didnt matter whether you sit for israel or palestine. Tonights event aimed to be a safe space for people to grieve and pray for all the people affected by the war. Dozens of people gathered in San Franciscos dolores park tuesday night to recite the mourners cottage. A jewish prayer meant to mourn the death of a loved one. Organization, if not now bay area organized this event for people to grieve together of all the lives lost in the israel, hamas war, both palestinians and israelis, despite sprinkles of rain coming down, 3 candles glowed in their it was an extremely powerful event. Im so grateful for all the people who share their stories and were willing to show up with their full selves, all their grief, other emotion. He says he thinks that hamas must be defeated. Representative of this community, i say. What hamas has done is atrocity thats wrong. There is no justification. Says he will be heading back to washington, d. C. , to work with intelligence agencies on the next best steps and to provide aid and assistance. The people affected by this war. Hamas is said to be holding captive about 150 israeli hostages. 20 of those are believed to be americans coming up at 10 30pm, tonight, were going hear from the parents of a 23 yearold man from berkeley, they believe was taken by the terrorist group while he was attending a Music Festival. Other news tonight, the Sunol Glen School board will be keeping their ban on all flags other than the u. S. And california state flags in place. A board member introduced a resolution to try and repeal this ban, but it was stopped in its tracks. Kron fours amanda hari was at the meeting tonight. She joins us live now. Amanda, this all started over some wanting the pride flag to be flown at their at schools. How are people feeling about this decision . There were dozens of public comments. Even the Board Members debated. People spoke passionately on both sides of this issue. Some even bringing flags into the meeting. It was standing room only at the glen School Board Meeting tuesday night on the agenda, an opportunity to repeal a ban on displaying any flag other than the u. S. And california flags. We are just here to keep the pressure up to reaffirm that were not going away. Present of Castro Valley pride, Austin Bruckner carrillo says in 2021. They pushed for the pride flag to be flown at districts across Alameda County, including signal in september with a 2, one split. The board voted to ban the pride flag and many other flags on campus. A committee thats part of the Oakland Police Commission Says its narrow down a list of new candidates to just 7 people, including a former chief leronne armstrong. But that committee did not follow the proper process. Unofficial finalists have not yet been determined. First grant lodes joins now live from our newsroom to explain this. Chaos in the search for a new chief grant. Looks like they jumped the gun. Can the committee released this list of 7 candidates but did so too soon. And because the application process isnt technically over and the candidates havent even been interviewed. This still has to play out. Regina jackson is on the Oakland Police commission, but its not part of the committee that released those 7 finalists names and shes critical of the committees process. I do not know how you can come up with final candidates before the end of an application process. That is illegitimate. Well, turns out the application deadline isnt until friday. Then executive search firm will forward the names to the Police Commission and then commissioners will conduct interviews and hold a town hall meeting before submitting a list of at least 3 top choices to the mayor. Now, the real question that remains is if lauren armstrong, the former chief, weve got fire, does end up being one of the Police Commissions top candidates. Also in oakland, 2 people are in the hospital after one of them was shot near the Oakland Charter academy happened just after midnight to monday early this morning. Police say one of the victims was walking to their car when another car pulled up alongside and started. People in the car started to rob that person. A Good Samaritan tried to disrupt the robbery and that person was shot. The suspects took off. Both the victims are hospitalized. Police say both are doing okay. Nevado has a new police chief jim naugle has worked for the Nevada Police department in the past and also served as the assistant sheriff for the Sonoma County sheriffs department. Meantime, neighbors in San Franciscos hayes valley neighborhood are voicing concerns about fires at homeless encampments. Many of them say theyve been complaining to the city on a daily basis. Kron fours rob nesbitt has that story. Neighbors are afraid this was the scene at the corner of goff unpaid streets in San Francisco saturday afternoon. Firefighters and Police Responded to the scene of a homeless encampment where 10 caught on fire. David robinson lives in the hayes valley neighborhood and captured the images. Right there on the ground and you see in the pictures that is the sidewalk was charred. Theres nothing left from what ever in that tent right a power pole. The park old south was even scarred. You can see planters that were set up along the sidewalk to deter homeless encampments. Robinson serves on the board. The Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association and says multiple complaints are sent to the city on a daily basis, not just for fires but other illegal activities as well. Drugs selling happening there fencing, stolen items. You see stuff being delivered you walk across, you know them or pass the the encampment there will be chopping bikes to its parts. Last month, a federal judge ruled that the city can now sweep encampments, but only if the an house person refuses shelter. According to the Mayors Office training, the city workers, police and firefighters who are enforcing the law will take several weeks. But were on the southern part of the storm system. So a little too far away to generate significant rainfall. That said i saw out him picked up 6 tenths of an inch of rain. So thats a pretty good system rolling on through of places just light amounts around the bay area. Now things begin to quiet down, least here, but you can see as it came through today, just Holding Together just long enough to bring some scattered showers, especially in the north bay along the peninsula. Even a couple reports of some light showers into the south bay. But now most energy starting to slide up in the Sierra Nevada where, hey, you see that green, the start to change color. How about that . Were looking at some snow across some of the higher peaks in the Sierra Nevada. Good sign of things to come. Know a lot of ski resorts want to try and open up as soon as they can. And they love to see some of that free snow. Temperatures out the door right now. Really not all that bad. We have the cloud cover and that is starting to dissipate overnight. Lows going get a little chilly in spots. I think numbers going take a little bit of a dive, especially in the north bay 50s and some 60s out the door right now. Heres the good news. If youre looking forward to some sunshine and some warmer weather, it is coming back as early as tomorrow. Here comes a big dome of High Pressure sliding in toward the coastline. Well start to see that northerly wind. Were going to watch a kick up, especially as we head toward tomorrow on thursday, a stronger, offshore wind. Its going make for increased visibility all the way along the coastline. Were going to see some clear skies. It really looks like some nice temperatures around the bay area by tomorrow afternoon. Numbers break down like this about mid 70s for a comfortable day in concord. 74 degrees in san jose. A beautiful 73 in oakland and 72 in hayward. 66 degrees and sunny in San Francisco. Were going to see more sun and that offshore wind kicking in skies begin to try and clear out right now looking for the east bay hills and as we head through the night tonight that the offshore wind going to start to develop and well, thats going to dry things out to still a little bit slick out there on the roads, looking the golden gate bridge. Pretty wet out there this afternoon. Will begin to dry out overnight as we see those northerly winds and the temperatures. Well, thats going to start to warm things up pretty nicely outside overnight tonight, partly cloudy skies, but then clearing toward the early morning. I think well see some Cool Temperatures probably going to see some 40s, i think parts of the interior valleys, sunshine returns for tomorrow. Going to be warmer, too and will warm things up to the middle of this week. And then a slight chance of rain late on friday and into saturday morning. Well, this was the weather maker for today. You can see it swirling around here. Most of the energy from that system heading up in the pacific northwest. Leslies lows are going start to track further south and theyll be Strong Enough to produce a significant amount of rain in the bay area. Not just a few 107 inch of rain. So well get things going. Its still very, very early in the season right now. Drying out here. Still some scattered showers, even some snow showers over the Sierra Nevada at this time. But heres the difference. The next couple of days, weve got High Pressure building in. You start to see that northerly wind kicking in that is that offshore wind that tends to blow this time of year. Its going to warm things up very f nicely now as we get into friday. Well, youve got another cold front coming in another week. System, maybe bringing at least a slight chance of some showers, mainly north of the golden gate bridge. The weekend looks good. But then by next monday, another chance of some rain. That being said, the winds. Yeah, theyre going to pick up a little bit as we head through the night tonight and tomorrow to more of a northerly component. The winds can be little blustery out there along the coastline by tomorrow afternoon. But overall looks like some nice weather ahead as well. Were going to see High Pressure taking over for the next couple days. Could be a little chill in the air early tomorrow morning may be down about 44 in santa rosa. Thats pretty cool. Temperatures around the bay area, though, by the afternoon, enjoying 60s and 70s in the San Francisco, some of those breezy conditions. Little cool co side but warming up inside the bay pretty quickly and a lot of 70s begin to pop up as you head down the peninsula. The south bay join lots of 70s tomorrow afternoon. That looks like a pretty good weekend before another chance of rain as we head in toward monday.
