They are the labor contract with the Health Company expired over the weekend crawfords Michael Thomas is following the story for us live from walnut creek. Michael. Hi, good morning, everyone. Were just about 48 hours away from seeing one of the largest healthcare strikes go down in u. S. History and its going affect a lot of places just like this. Kaiser here and walnut creek. Take a look. This is video we have of protests that weve seen over the last couple months in total. As we mentioned, 75,000 healthcare workers to go on strike and thats nationwide. Its set to start on wednesday and last for 3 days long and it includes workers in washington, colorado, oregon, and almost 60,000 here in the state of california, 20,000 coming out of the bay area. The contract expired over the weekend. Union Officials Say they have had good discussions with kaiser officials over a number of issues. But the Biggest Issue theyre still not seeing eye to eye on is that pay raise. And overnight, kaiser sent out messages to all of its members saying that it remains at the bargaining table and theres still a chance that this strike could not happen. But if it does, it may affect people. Take a look saying in a quote in the case of a strike, we may need to reschedule some nonurgent appointments in procedures will contact you in advance if your appointment needs to be rescheduled. Its possible that you could experience longer wait and hold times during the strike. We apologize for any inconvenience. Appreciate your patience. Now when it comes to the er and those type of things that will all still be working as normal being mailed in and out will still go as one. Of course, their websites. But as to if theyre going to come to an agreement, only time will tell only be able to know by wednesday if that happens and if workers are able to closer to that 6 pay raise that theyve been fighting live this morning in walnut creek that Michael Thomas started djing. So back. All right. Thanks for the update. Well, 10, 0, 3, weve got another big story this morning. Governor gavin newsom announced his replacement to fill late senator Dianne Feinsteins seat in congress. And here she is. The governors appointing democratic strategist la funds up butler. She is the president of emilys list and has a long political resume. She does. Weve got capitol correspondent Eytan Wallace with more. Governor newsom wanted quickly after the death of senator Dianne Feinstein on friday that remember, this is a very powerful and important seat. Just one of 2 representing the most populous state in the u. S. Senate newsom had promised to appoint a black woman to the seat and he is making good on his work. La fonda butler is the president of emilys list. Thats an organization working to elect prochoice women to office. Shes also the former president of the seiu United Long Term Care Workers Union and was a member of the uc board of regents for more than 5 years now on top of all of that, she was a Democratic Party strategist who was a long careers california politics. She will be the only black woman serving in the u. S. Senate and the first openly lgbtq person to represent california in the senate as well. We spoke with Loyola Law School professor Jessica Levinson about why this was such an important pick. So i think that ms butler is a smart pick because Governor Newsom is essentially able to make good on both of his promises. He said im not going to pick somebody whos actively running in the race. He didnt want to put his on the scale. And he also said im going to pick a black woman, the pick, a black woman who is also at the forefront of issues. He cares about about gender equality, about reproductive choice. And so i think for the governor, this pick makes a lot of sense. It also makes sense because Senate Democrats need another person there. They cannot be down a body and we expect that ms butler will be sworn within a matter of days. And already questions are rising over butlers official residence. Now for biography on the emilys list website and on her twitter account listed her state of residence as maryland. But the Governors Office is quickly putting that to bed saying she is a longtime california resident and has a house here and a clarification that she moved to a dc suburban maryland when she took over as emilys list president in 2021, a spokesperson from the Governors Office tells me butler will re register here before she is officially sworn later this week, governor gavin newsom wrote this on social media about butler, quote from her time as president of emilys list, a leading the states Largest Labor union. She has always stood up for what is right and has led with her heart and her values. So what happens next . Will butler is expected to be sworn in later this week . And as for how this impacts the 2024 race to fill that seat, well, were told butler is free to run for the seat of she wants. She join major democratic candidates, adam schiff, but early and katie porter who have already entered the race in the newsroom. Im a tom wallace. Well, and the fonz, a butler did release a comment this morning on the social media platform x. Wrote, quote, im honored to accept Governor Newsoms nomination to be u. S. Senator for a state. I have made my home and honored by his trust in me to serve the people of california and this great nation. No one will ever measure up to the legacy of senator Dianne Feinstein. But i will do my best to honor her legacy and leadership by committing to work for women and girls workers and unions struggling parents and all of california. I am ready to serve, end quote. Meantime, Funeral Plans are finalized for senator Dianne Feinstein and weve got reyna harvey here in the studio to walk us through it. Ran a darren james. Now the public will have an opportunity to pay their respects to the late senator this week. Feinsteins body was flown back to San Francisco from washington, d. C. , over the weekend. She was exported from sfo to sinai memorial chapel. Less apd says a special route through the city was planned for her arrival. They say people along the route they stopped to applause and share her name. Services are going to be set for this week. Senator feinstein will lie in state at San Francisco city hall on wednesday. 09 00am to 07 00pm. The public is invited to come and pay their respects and also signed a condolence book during that time. Then on thursday, a 01 00pm a Funeral Service will be held inside the earths theater at the San Francisco war memorial and performing arts center. That funeral is not open to the public, but the simulcast of that service will be shown right inside of city hall of the north like court. Hearing out really nicely and warming up. Maybe a much. For areas right along the bay shore. Weve got a of sunshine out there this morning, something that we didnt have just about an hour ago with a lot of low cloud cover sitting across the region. Embarcadero, though, starting a warmup process for the day. Going to be your typically cool stuff at the coastline, but not for the rest of the week. All that is turns ish and out into the rockies and the great basin now pretty active over there. But were replacing what was that low pressure area that brought us such a nice and cool weekend with a High Pressure. Ridge now building in and this is going to contribute to a much hotter forecast. Theres your High Pressure. Ridge offshore is actually going to build in just to the north and west of us in doing so is going to draw some warmer, drier air from our inland areas out towards the coastline. This means bayshore and coastal cities are going to see some of the warmest temperatures that they fell so far this year. So still pretty typically cool in areas like Golden Gate Park down the coastline, San Francisco today, a nice comfortably, cool and Sunny Afternoon ahead of us. But the heat builds on later this forecast. 70s to low 80s for the rest of the bay area after what was a cool weekend. Today is a warmup for sure. But by no means anywhere close to the hottest that youre going to get. So if you want to get outside that yard work, any sort of jogger hike in the inland east bay today is a good day to take care of it because youve got that comfortable range of upper 70s to low 80s warm but not too hot just yet. Tomorrow will warm up even further. But then wednesday through saturday is the core of this fall heat ahead of us highs in the 90s inland 80s by the bayshore nearing 90s in some spots and coastal areas even tapping into some 80s by wednesday, thursday, even friday. So if getting hot in areas like San Francisco and plenty of sunshine, too, daria. All right, thanks. Large on 10, 16 and a correctional officer in vacaville. Could find himself in a prison cell. We saw some sprinkles in the bay on saturday as well. Some flurries in the sierra nevada. All that is pushed out to the east now that was generated by this low pressure area sliding right past the region. Thats on the outs. And quite the shift ahead of us is as High Pressure ridge builds in contributing not just to inland heat, but as it moves to the north and west of the bay, we will be seeing an offshore wind along with it. This is going to transport some warm, dry inland there and push that right out to the coastline. Thats temperatures for areas like San Francisco are about to be some of the warmest of the year. So far today, though, its just 60s and 70s with 60s at the coastline, making this a cool and pretty seasonable day at the coast. Lot of 70s to 80s elsewhere in the bay saying carlos definitely warmer than yesterday. Up to 79 san jose at 78 some low 80s making their return today for spots like conquered walnut creek and danville. In the meantime, oakland, a comfy 73 in vallejo at an i75 fairfield Petaluma Novato and center fell. Hell be at 79 for your highs tomorrow. Temperatures will be a bit warmer than today and will further warm up into wednesday through saturday. This is when well see 90s for inland areas and near 90s right along the bay. But even more noticeable. Our coastal warmup, this will take coastal areas like San Francisco well into the 80s by wednesday, thursday, even friday. That will be a warm finish to fleet week for a lot of spots. Daria, thanks. A lot of 10, 45 and the latest iphone models. Hot flying off the shelves. Not that kind of hot there. How in your hands . Because buyers are saying that they seem to be warming up more than they should to the touch on the iphone 15 pro and 15 pro max. Apparently there can be a problem where theyre overheating. And apple says is likely until bug and the software. So they just found that the phones are running warmer from the restoring or the re setting. And theres no safety risk, though theyre going to send out a Software Update on these and some thirdparty apps like meta and uber, they say are also contributing to the overheating and apple is working with those apps to work on fix.
