Headlines which we will in a minute. But weve got to talk about the weather because we have some things changing monday starting off cold this morning. Yeah, all and then well get some are back. I guess i took hot and cold move back and forth. We go. Weve had our first week of fall behind us and it lived up to what those falllike expectations might have been. Little cooler. Even a little sprinkle here and there like we saw last tuesday morning. And then again, this past saturday. But now the second week of fall looking to warm things back up. Looking outside this morning. We do have a lot of sunshine now making its appearance again over the east bay after what was a great start. Temperatures are also starting to rise. We fell into the 40s for a lot of the bay earlier on petaluma in fairfax are still there at 47 49 degrees. Well, some of us like Fairfield Vacaville and san mateo back into the low 60s. Were seeing calm winds, clear skies for most areas and this is going to pair with a nice comfortable, but warmer afternoon today, 70s to 80s for warmest of daytime highs. And this is just the start. Temperatures climbing back into the 90s for inland areas and even some 80s at the coast by the end of this week. Ive got your forecast ahead, rain. All right. On the for that scene. A lot of improvement out there on our bridges, especially. Were up to aeout 22 23 minutes on the bay bridge. Now were down to 16 minutes. The meteor lights are still on 15 minute ride to mateo bridge 80 to 101 year. Richmond, sandra bridge. Look at that. Pretty quiet under 9 minutes. Golden gate bridge just under 30. Im not seeing any major delays on bart. So youre not a good start. All james, back to you. All right. Thanks. A lot rain, a 902. Lets get back to our top story, which is the strike. 75,000 . Kaiser Health Care Employees are ready to strike. Yeah. And labor contract with kaiser expired over the weekend. So the threat is real crawfords. Michael thomas standing by live for us in walnut creek with a look at the latest this morning. Michael. I good morning, everyone. Were just about 48 hours away from this strike possibly happening. It would be set to start on wednesday and it would affect places like right here and walnut creek and other kaiser locations across the bay area. Take a look. This is video we have from previous protests from these kaiser workers in total. Were talking about 75,000 healthcare workers set to strike nationwide. And again, this would start in 2 days on wednesday and then would go for the following 3 days. And it includes workers in washington, colorado, oregon, and almost 60,000 here in california with 20,000 workers coming out of the bay area. Now the contract expired over the weekend with Union Officials telling us there have been good discussions with kaiser officials, but the number one issue theyre still facing is regarding that pay raise are looking for around 6 . And again, the 2 parties cannot seem to come to an agreement as of right now, kaiser says if the strike does happen, hospitals, Emergency Departments will remain open non urgent procedures and appointments, however, will be rescheduled. Take a look. This is a statement from them that they sent out to their members overnight in saying, quote, in the case of a strike, we may need to reschedule some non urgent appointments and procedures will contact you in advance if your appointment needs to be rescheduled. Its possible that you could experience longer wait and hold times during a strike. Apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate appreciate your patience. Now, right now, prescriptions are available for mail delivery, but you could see a lot of Different Things really starting to come to a halt or ultimately a major delay. Again, they still have 2 days to try and get to that agreement. But as of right now, we could see these people walking out across the country again, 75,000 at these pies are locations like this morning in walnut creek, chemical thomas, to send it back to you. All right. Thank you, michael. It is 904 and turning to another big story this morning. We have governor gavin newsom announcing his replacement to fill the late senator Dianne Feinsteins seat. The governor has appointed this woman. Her name is a lot butler and shes the president of emilys list. Also has a very long resumes. Were going to take a closer look now as kron fours capitol correspondent eytan wallace. Governor newsom wanted quickly after the death of senator Dianne Feinstein on friday that remember, this is a very powerful and important seat. Just one of 2 representing the most populous state in the u. S. Senate newsom had promised to appoint a black woman to the seat and he is making good on his work. La fonda butler is the president of emilys list. Thats an organization working to elect prochoice women to office. Shes also the former president of the seiu United Long Term Care Workers Union and was a member of the uc board of regents for more than 5 years now on top of all of that, she was a Democratic Party strategist who was a long careers california politics. She will be the only black woman serving in the u. S. Senate and the first openly lgbtq person to represent california in the senate as well. We spoke with Loyola Law School professor Jessica Levinson about why this was such an important pick. So i think that ms butler is a smart pick because Governor Newsom is essentially able to make good on both of his promises. He said im not going to pick somebody whos actively running in the race. He didnt want to put his on the scale. And he also said im going to pick a black woman, the pick, a black woman who is also at the forefront of issues. He cares about about gender equality, about reproductive choice. And so i think for the governor, this pick makes a lot of sense. It also makes sense because Senate Democrats need another person there. They cannot be down a body and we expect that ms butler will be sworn within a matter of days. And already questions are rising over butlers official residence. Now for biography on the emilys list website and on her twitter account listed her state of residence as maryland. But the Governors Office is quickly putting that to bed saying she is a longtime california resident and has a house here and a clarification that she moved to a dc suburban maryland when she took over as emilys list president in 2021, a spokesperson from the Governors Office tells me butler will re register here before she is officially sworn later this week, governor gavin newsom wrote this on social media about butler, quote from her time as president of emilys list, a leading the states Largest Labor union. She has always stood up for what is right and has led with her heart and her values. So what happens next . Will butler is expected to be sworn in later this week . And as for how this impacts the 2024 race to fill that seat, well, were told butler is free to run for the seat of she wants. She join major democratic candidates, adam schiff, but early and katie porter who have already entered the race in the newsroom. Im a tom wallace. Well, and the butler is actually released a statement this morning on x saying, quote, im honored to accept Governor Newsoms nomination to be u. S. Senator for a state. I have made my home and honored. By his trust in me to serve the people, california and this great nation. No one will ever measure up to the legacy of senator Dianne Feinstein. But i will do my best to honor her legacy and leadership by committing to work for women and girls workers in unions, struggling parents and all of california. I am ready to serve and quote. And in the meantime, the Funeral Plans have been finalized for senator Dianne Feinstein. The public will have an opportunity to pay their respects this week. Feinsteins body was flown back to San Francisco from washington, d. C. , over the weekend. And here you see it being put into the hearse and escorted from sfo. 2 right here, sinai memorial chapel, the route along the way, had plenty of people on the sidelines stopping in applauding and giving a moment of silence for her. The services are set for this week. Senator feinsteins body will lie in state at San Francisco city hall wednesday from 09 00am to 07 00pm. And that is when the public is invited to pay their respects and sign a condolence book because the next day thursday, there is a funeral, but its private. Thats at 1 oclock in the herbst theater at San Francisco war memorial. The funeral while its not open to the public, it will be simulcast. So you can watch the service in city hall will keep you updated as we get more details. This is going to result in some dry offshore winds, warmer, drier air from the interior valleys, got to be nudged out to the bay shore and eventually to the coastline. And this is actually going to make San Francisco in coastal areas have a forecast that is going to be among the warmest this year so far and just in time for fleet week, 60s and 70s today in sf and 60s at the coast.
