Im actually up wind from location over there. So i cant smell anything. Cant see any smoke either. Looks like theyve got a pretty good handle on this fire. But as you mentioned, there is still an air quality advisory in place for the east bay. The Oakland Fire Department has been there throughout the day on thursday. Spring water. Well talk about our Weather Forecast and the air quality there. But here we can see the marine layer that has moved in across San Francisco. Keeping us cool. But first, meteorologist kyla grogan is here. Now. Details air quality looks good. All things considered. Yeah. Well, it was slipped. It slipped a little bit earlier today. So we have some spots showing up in the yellow over in the east bay in particular. And now im happy to report that. Yeah, were looking at green all across the bay area now. So that has been an improvement as we made our way through the day. You know, the good news is that the wind has been kind of variable in light today and we will start to get a little bit of a sea breeze will start to work its way in as we get into the afternoon, our traditional sea breeze. And as you can see on smoke tracker that will help to kind of push all of this a little bit off to the east. And that should continue our air quality kind of improving. So what were expecting as we get into tomorrow is that we have good air quality, right . Were taking a live look from the east bay right now. You can see some blue skies out there looking pretty good. So happy to say that so far. So good not bad. Today. Were getting a little bit in the inner east bay, but thats about where we should be this time of year. Like about 87 88 degrees. You can see about 87 in livermore right now. Were at 81 down in mountain view. Some nice 70s around the bay. 78 in hayward, San Francisco in downtown 66 degrees and up in the north bay, were ranging between the mid 70s right up to the low 80s. You can see 82 there in santa rosa. So the thing thats kind of catching my eye today is what you see down in southern and Central California. Now that thats the remnants of what was a Tropical Storm. Eugene. And that has sent a little bit of moisture into california. And unfortunately, its also sending a little bit of lightning. Were going to be a little more into that come back a little bit later tonight. Well see those clouds increase because of sending some of those clouds our way and even the chance of a sprinkle in the south bay. Very, very small chance. But a chance if you see one, thats what it will be from all the back a little bit. Well talk more about that system and what it means for our extended forecast. For now. Send it back to the desk. Union Pacific Railroad is fully replacing a section of tracks in san leandro built in the 18 60s kron. 4 sweet ago reports the city is also making safety improvements for cars and pedestrians in an area that has become dangerous. At times and in at least one case became deadly. San leandro mayor gonzalez, the 3rd and city associate engineer driskell surveying the repairs union Pacific Railroad crews are making to tracks along washington avenue thursday in the southern part of town. We all know rail. And vehicles and pedestrians dont always to attract. Well. And this intersection is no different than other intersections. Poses greater risk because of the angle at which the rail road tracks cross the roadway. The tracks are being fully replaced. The street is closed chapman road and will remain off limits all day and night. Through at least sunday, the improvements here will make the rail traffic move more smoothly. Make sure the trains dont derail near gonzalez says it will also improve the angle at which pedestrians cross the Railroad Tracks, essentially at 90 degrees to increase the chance that the actually see and here trains passing through. It is certainly the case that weve it was due to the design, but clearly we do not want fatalities here in san leandro and any opportunity to improve safety. Is paramount in 2016, 30 yearold Vanessa Henriques and her 3 yearold daughter cd were killed after their car got stuck on the tracks in traffic. And were hit by a train at the time. Investigators said it was unclear if henriques saw the train coming because the tracks cross the road at an angle. Were also working on to other crossings here in san leandro. Look outside here at a pretty blue sky shot in San Francisco are enjoying some cooler weather. Were going to talk also about the situation in hawaii a little bit more because it was this hurricane that really whipped up the winds and thats whats spread the fire has it moved out of the way or the wind. It wasnt just the hurricane was the fact that theres High Pressure to the north of hawaiian hurricane to the south of hawaii. Think of it as like 2 buildings. Block between 2 buildings get hit a wind tunnel. Right. So compression of air when you get these 2 things kind of squeezing and thats whats been happening. And thats whats been sending that wind that very gusty wind across hawaii, right. High pressure to the north and low pressure in the form of Hurricane Dora to the south. You know, the good news is that hurricane is going to be moving on. The bad news is its not completely moved on yet. So we still have some gusty wind in hawaii and they are still kind of in this whole fight for saving some of the, you know, the islands buildings in peoples homes. You can see right here. 23 miles per hour. Thats gusting right now. Thats not great for firefighting. No doubt about it. Heres Hurricane Dora. Still very powerful right now sitting at a category 3 with sustained winds of 120 miles per hour. Now it is going to continue its track as it moves farther towards the west. And when that does pull away, will help to lessen that gradient by tomorrow. They should be looking at much more calm winds. So some good news there, but we still have to get through today, right . So what a live look right now from our mount tam cam. Its been there all day. The marine layer kind of hanging out and certainly is have influence on our temperatures. Keeping us again in this rather mild pattern that weve been in for the last few days with 60s at the coast, 70s around the bay and 80s, as you move inland tomorrow, were going to see those temperatures get knocked down just a little bit more for our inland valleys. As you can see, were looking out for about 84 degrees and partly cloudy skies and some of that is because of whats happening to the south of us right now. Another tropical system, which was eugene, the remnants of that sending some moisture into southern and now Central California and bringing with it a little bit of lightning. You might have seen a couple popup parade about there and its thats going to be headed our way now. I dont think well get much in the way of rain, but we will get some cloud cover will help to keep us a little bit cooler tomorrow. So you see these temperatures. Some are very similar, but just a few degrees cooler for those of you who are inland. But again, still that pattern, one more day of these mild temperatures of 60s at the coast, 70s around the bay, an 80s inland. We get to saturday. Were going to take those inland temperatures up into the low 90s. Then mid 90s on sunday and then we kind of rocket into near triple digit heat. You can see it last all the way through wednesday. Before we start to get a slight pullback on thursday, that means you got a hot week ahead next week. So just make sure youre keeping that in mind as you make your plans back to you. Thank you so much. The acc president s chose not to vote last night on whether to at cal and stanford to the league. Some wga members protesting are calling this a milestone of shame for the studios. Back in 2008, the wga strike ended on day 100 and while unity is still strong, anger is growing after the last meeting between the 2 sides last friday ended with little progress. I started here on late day 40 and im not too optimistic. About whats going on upstairs. I kind of think theyre still trying to squeeze a small guy out and put people into the writers room that over to be making 60 70,000 a they have to live in studio city in a studio apartment with a along with sag aftra, the writers are fighting for residuals from streaming shows and regulation of artificial intelligence. The actor strike is now nearly a month old. And Industry Experts say that both strikes have cost the california economy, at least 3 billion dollars so far. And in the east bay today, there was a rally for sag after at the Alameda Labor Council in support of the actors and writers strike. They just want to remind everyone that local bay area performers will be directed. Directly affected by the results of these negotiations. Still ahead, city leaders are calling on lawmakers for better housing across california will hear about their new proposal on how they can do this. And the rise in inflation, why economists say we can expect the numbers to keep going up. For your money. This afternoon. The inflation rate increase from 3 in june to 3. 2 in july. And this breaks a 12 month streak of decelerating inflation. Our washington correspondent Anna Wiernicki is live with us now. And she has the latest. Good evening. Walk say that a rise in inflation isnt what wed like to but they say it was expected and they say just shows how challenging the fight to bring down inflation is going to be moving forward. Our plan is working. President joe biden says julys Consumer Price index report is good news for americans. We have more to do, inflation is towns, lowest point in 2 years. The new numbers from the Labor Department show prices are up 3. 2 from a year ago. Economist stephen juno says, well, thats only 8. 2 increase from june. Some costs remain. Stubborn services are still sticky. Its not that prices fallen a lot. Its not that, you know, its getting cheaper to buy things out there. The report Shows Americans are paying more for food and transportation, which juno says will likely continue for some time. Next. Couple reports are likely going to show, you know, bigger increases in energy. So that means higher price. Prices at the pump, our utility bills that obviously eats into consumer purchasing power because those are things you really cant not run. The more tea with the White Houses National Economic Council says getting the economy back on track takes time. But he says the president s plan is working overall picture of the economy. We have today saying that we had a few months ago, which is inflation declining on the right track and jobs and growth continuing to be moving along at a cut. Now, economists say that bringing down inflation to 3 was the easy part they say could take years to continue to bring it down to meet the feds 2 goal. For now live in washington, im Anna Wiernicki. Back to you. Thank you so much. Anne. Coming up here at 3 oclock house veterans can receive medical coverage retroactively plus another roadblock to forgiveness. They also want the chief to focus on reducing crime, increasing transparency and encouraging more community policing. To get to chief is need 3 or 4 candidates and then there will be another community forum. The Police Commissions goal is to have this done by october. And then those candidates will go before the mayor for consideration. Back now to look outside is our camera here showing us quite howard, a little bit of fog thats coming in to this part of the city right now. Meteorologist kyla grogan with our local forecast and also youre tracking looks like some severe storms and there are a few severe storms up in the Northern Tier in that area in yellow. But everything you see kind of an orange and pink and red, those are all heat watches and warnings. Just to show you that we still have a good part of the country that is dealing with some heat. And were also going to be seeing some of that head our way as we head towards the weekend right now, 106, in dallas, but you can see some nice temperatures in the northeast today. Were about 70 degrees in new york city. Thats not bad, right . 87 in atlanta, 82 in denver and even las vegas. Just 92 degrees. Thats ok for this time of year in las vegas. So certainly a little bit cooler on the west coast this weekend. Were not going to stay there. We are going to see temperatures start to warm up as we head towards the weekend, but not tomorrow. Were going to actually cool down a couple degrees tomorrow and that has everything to do with whats going on here, which is the remnants of Tropical Storm eugene right now bringing some showers into parts of Central California. And you can see that counter clockwise circulation just starting to spin some of those clouds our way. And in fact, we could even see a sprinkle or to make it into the south bay. I think its a very small chance, but it is a chance we can see right now some of the showers going happening in and around san louis obispo. I did see some lightning associated with this earlier today. Im happy to see that that seems to have ramped down. So thats some good news. Bringing it back to the bay. Were picking up the breeze a little bit. Temperatures right now sitting at 62 in San Francisco. 71 in oakland and weve got 80s kind of across the board in the north bay and the south bay. And were going to kind of stay in that space as we get into tomorrow. But then things change and we start to warm up and really will start to feel it on saturday. But inland temperatures set to go into the mid 90s and then above that as we head into next weeks all be back a little bit. Well talk a little bit more about tracking that system thats to the south of us and also just how warm are going to get back to you. Thank you so much, california. Difference tomorrow is that weve got the remnants of Tropical Storm eugene, you can kind of see a little peek of it down and just the corner of the screen there. But as i zoom out, you can see more of it of that streaming moisture into parts of southern and Central California. Now that is going to move all the way up and we will see some clouds from that tomorrow. Doesnt look like well be squeezing any, you know, precipitation out of this. Its not going to be a lot of rain for anyone, but you can see some of it certainly falling right now in and around san louis obispo getting to those light showers and just to the west of bakersfield getting a few as well.
