As theres now an official air quality warning for the bay area. Charles. Right now im in alameda. If you look behind me here across the oakland estuary across the water that big black crane over there, this fire was burning just beneath that. It looks we cant see any smoke at the moment. Travelers both to and from hawaii have been experiencing delays for days. And this morning, multiple flights flew into sfo with passengers who say theyve been stuck in maui and describe the situation is chaotic and devastation, sadness. Yesterday cried all day. Its just its really other travelers arriving say the island looks nothing like it did when they arrived for their vacation just days ago. And one native who arrived in the bay area says its going to take at least 10 years before its rebuilt, completely one san jose resident was there on vacation with her family and tells me the apartment that she had rented was destroyed completely and she and her family had just minutes to gather their things before it was torn into pieces. The miss asian global pageant used to be called the miss asian america pageant. But they expanded and they changed the name to miss asian global because they wanted to expand. The contest is to introduce people from outside of the country, which is really exciting. Now, want to bring in frances congo is one of the organizers of the pageant now, francis, you actually met back in 2015 because i participated in this pageant myself. Thats so important for the delegates because thats where they get the bond. The judges, their First Impression term and think almost dictate how they perform from that trickery and so today is day one of the pageant. There is a day to like i mentioned earlier where the girls are going have their evening gowns on going to be answering a surprise. Tough question on stage at hertz theater. Absolutely. So. I wanted to take you to hawaii, everyone to talk a little bit about the wind gusts, which you can see a little bit lower today than they were yesterday. Thankfully, as they continue to deal with some of the fires that are out there. Im still expecting gusts upwards of 20 to 25 Miles Per Hour today as that wind gradient is still present with High Pressure to the north. And of course, that hurricane to the south. But the good news is its going to get better tomorrow and its better today than it was yesterday, right . But we still do have a very powerful category 3. Now, Hurricane Dora that is in the pacific. Its got sustained winds about 120 Miles Per Hour. This is the track. It does weaken as it pushes away. And that will definitely help. So by tomorrow, we should be looking a lot better bringing it back to the bay. Weve got the marine layer in as we take a live look from our mount tam cam. So a very kind of repeat of yesterday. So you can see current temperatures right now, some low 80s in the inner east day. Some 70s are in the bay itself in just 60 degrees. Out at half. Moon bay, where are we going today . Well, pretty much where we went yesterday, right . Were looking out for about 66 in San Francisco, some low 80s up in the north bay. Some of those more mid to upper 80s as you head into spots like antioch and livermore. And then again, some nice mid 70s around the bay and south bay looking out for some low 80s. So if youre in livermore, one of my traditionally hottest spots out there looking out for high about 86 degrees today. So that means your ice cream cone. Yeah, you might get a few drips, but not too bad. It should be. All right for you today. We are going to see that heat return. However, when those ice cream cones are going to be definitely melting real quick if we head inland and that would be starting on sunday to see the warm up begins on saturday by sunday. Uber says the in app safety feature will allow drivers and riders to record audio for the duration of the trip. The audio files will then be encrypted and stored directly on the users. Devices. The recordings will not be sent anywhere unless you attach it to a Safety Report and secretly also recording a trip is not an option. Uber says both users will be notified that the trip is being recorded. And if you dont want to be recorded, you can cancel the ride. Meantime, lyft says the company is lowering ride fares in order to better compete with uber. The ceo says lyft is eliminating surge pricing, which typically occurs when there are not enough drivers to meet demand. Lyft says the number of riders who experienced surge pricing fell. 35 1 last quarter due to their high driver supply. The goal is to kill off the surge pricing entirely. And we are about to see a surge in temperatures. A live look outside, though. Whats keeping San Francisco in the coast kind of cool and drizzly today. But kyle is here now with a look at the forecast for whats ahead. And were going to enjoy that kind of cool weather white last. Yeah, exactly. Because it is going to change drastically for those of you inland. Once we get into the latter part of the weekend. Right now, though, were doing pretty good as we take a live look at stormtracker 4. But of course, your eye goes down to Central California. You see some lightning there and some. Some precipitation, some rain falling and that has everything to do with what was Tropical Storm eugene, which this is now the remnants of. And so you can see its kind of spinning in that counter clockwise circulation bringing in those showers. And again, that lightning you can see is just south of san louis obispo right and i dont like the lightning this time of year. I really do but hopefully we will have no problems with that right now. Certainly were having a Beautiful Day as we take a live look from the east bay getting some nice blue skies out there just to show you futurecast how this works out again. Remember that counter clockwise circulation. So we get in tonight and well probably start to see some of the clouds from this. Its possible that the south bay sees a sprinkle or 2. I think monterey bay. Well see some, but thats about it really isnt about the rain so much as the cloud cover for us. And then also just this threat of lightning during what we are, you know, in our fire season. So as far as rain is concerned, you can see the numbers are low. Thats what were expecting in terms of that. But for us right now, were looking good. Were having a really nice day out there. Marine layer start the day with some fog. Were at 80 degrees in san jose that 68 in alameda concord about 77. And you can see him paddle him about 79 degrees. So were kind of reading in that at or below average thing. If you look across the country, notice a lot of places. This is a departure from normal temperatures. So for instance, chicago, 3 degrees warmer today, 6 on friday, 5 on saturday. See a lot of those reds. That means those people that are above average, whereas for the next 3 days here, concluding today, we are still running below average. But all of that is that to change as we head into our weekend because were going to see High Pressure kind of move in and start to control the forecast again. So for those of you who are inland by saturday, were in the low 90s, then were going into the upper 90s on sunday and notice the staying power of this heat here as we run sunday monday, tuesday, wednesday. Before we start to see things break down a little bit. So just make sure youre thinking about that as we head towards the weekend again around the bay is going quite nice in the 70s and out of the coast will see just a very looking out potential of getting even up to tripleu digits as we head into next week. Back to you. Thank you so much. Hollywood writers have been on strike for more than 100 days with no agreement with the studios and streaming companies in sight. Some of the wga members protesting are calling this a milestone of shame for the studios back in 2008, the wga strike ended on day 100 while unity is still strong. Is growing after the last meeting between the 2 sides on friday ended with little progress. I started here on late day 40 and im not too optimistic. About whats going on upstairs. I kind of think theyre still trying to squeeze a small guy out and put people into the writers room that over to be making 60 70,000 a they have to live in studio city in a studio apartment with a roommate. Along with sag after the writers are fighting for residuals from streaming shows and the regulation of Artificial Intelligence. The actors strike is now nearly a month old and Industry Experts are saying both strikes have cost the california economy, at least 3 billion dollars just so far. In the east bayc there was a rally for a sag after at the Alameda Labor Council and supported the actors and writers strike. They want to remind everyone that local bay area performers will be directly affected by the results of these negotiations. Also happening now, the u. S. Air force, the Research Laboratory is demonstrating how a historic flight its going to work, hopefully paving the way for advanced autonomous air combat capabilities. Reporter Riley Phillips has more on this groundbreaking achievement. This is an ex que 58 valkyrie. Its rocket launched into the sky and last week was successfully test highlighted using ai. This is just one of the examples of the air force research lab developing new ways to integrate Ai Technology into its operations. And i plays a huge role not just in helping us develop these types of technology specht. More importantly, actually being able to use and to augment. You know, our capacities, you know, for the National Security advantage that we alexis fennell as the new chief Information Officer and director of digital capabilities, directorate of the afrl at Wright Patterson air force base. She says the technology is not replacing people but rather making sure they have all the tools and information they need to carry out a mission that might be quite frankly, just putting down the toy aisle. Of, you know, what might not be as high value work and making it easier for someone to focus on something that really improves the mission. Or it could be Amazing Things like. Right here. The sq 58 valkyrie the Technology Used in the ai piloted test flight was developed by the afrl at wright patt. It took millions of hours of simulations to train. The ai algorithm used to fly the plane but been else as it could open up new capabilities for airman and make their mission safer to be able to take the idea of having one to be able to have a lot of different capacity. At their back really supporting and thats important, right . Because its not just about. You know, winning the fight. Its also about making sure that that pilot is much more likely to come home to their family, but now says a big part of the success of this technology is its development in dayton, surrounded by aviation innovation. And she looks forward to continuing to create programs that keep the country pushing ahead. We do not know whats coming and i think many of can look back even at the last few years and say, wow, we didnt see that coming, right. And thats just the state of being that i think. Its our duty right to all american citizens that they can sleep well at night and that they know that we are bringing the very best technology again to make sure that we can pursue our economic security, you know, but also the values of of what america means around the world. A meteor shower is set to light up the sky this weekend. And this year since the moon will barely be visible, the perseid shower will be a lot easier to see.
