They shot down. 41 yearold bryant bluford. They say he was pacing around and stepping up to officers demanding that they like over suspect. They arrested with an outstanding warrant. But for scene with a hand on a gun in his waistband after officers asked dozens of times for him to lift up his hands. He instead reaches for the firearm and pointed at them and its not against lot of walk across the street ask questions or yell profanities, whatever. Threats. To kill people to Kill Police Officers gripping a handgun after you make that threat pointing a handgun at a Police Officer is against the law and its a lifethreatening situation after blue for the shot down, officers approached him to give him cpr. What started out as a welfare check is now being investigated as a possible double homicide. San jose police say they found 2 people dead inside an Apartment Unit and kron 4 s Justin Campbell has been following tonights developments tend j whats happening. Yeah, vicki and catherine, it has been a turn of events. This started at 10 00am this morning. It started, as you said, is a simple welfare check at the Vista Apartments thats on park more roll some video. So you can see the scene but thats near San Jose City college. Now officers from the san jose Police Department went there as a simple welfare check. Once they went inside of that apartment, they dean discovered 2 individuals deceased. Now this investigation, hours later after they were investigating turned into a Homicide Investigation this afternoon, they release that information to us. Now, police have not put out any information on a possible suspect, a possible motive or the identity of who these 2 individuals are now neighbors in that were distraught, just really trying to put the pieces together of what could have happened. All of those all of that information we dont know right now. Were waiting to hear more from officers once they send out a release. But their apartment complex apartment complex did put out some information saying they are deeply sorry for the tragedy and they have also hired Armed Security that will be there for the next few days. While this investigation keeps going on. And hopefully we get to learn more about the of exactly who these 2 individuals were. But it is still an investigation thats ongoing. Frustrated tenderloin shop owner sharing his concerns of open air drug use in San Francisco. This comes franciscos Sheriffs Office shared these images over recent drug seizure. It includes 815 grams of fentanyl and 180 grams of meth. Thspis on an ankle monitor and they are being investigated. Its all part of a joint effort with police to crack down on these open air drug market to activities in the tenderloin. The tenderloin shop owner asked thats not to have his identity revealed. Its unsafe. You cant walk around. Theres open air drug market everywhere. I do see the chp. Patrolling theyre pushing on from one block to the other. Theyre just theyre just moving them around. Law enforcement leaders heard some of that frustration from people at this recent tenderloin Public Safety town hall. The safe dip disposal of the Hazardous Materials took much longer than expected. Neighbors say that the man who lived in the home was a retired professor who specialized in chemistry. And, know, as you wake up in the morning or start to see that fog. So that will actually keep those temperatures a little bit cooler. As you wake up. But its going how its going to heat up a little bit later. So looking at the visibility for you can see at 6. 15. Police say both of them and they arrested live in Redwood City Police to believe there are more suspects and they say most of the stolen bikes are still missing. The new measure aimed at allowing for greater rent control has officially qualified now for the ballot. This is californias continue struggle with high rents and lack of Affordable Housing. And while the value of rent can vary from city to city and from unit to unit, depending on several factors for many, there was agreement on the following assessment. Rents are way too high. Thats why Susie Shannon says she has helped to organize and gather support for a ballot measure to give local governments across the state. The opportunity to expand rent control, allowing them to restrict how much landlords are allowed to raise. Rents. Last month. The proposal officially qualified for the november 2024 ballot after organizers gathered more than 600,000 of ballot signatures. We want to make sure that the rents are not so high that were making it where people cant live here anymore. One of the major components of the proposal seeks to repeal a state law enacted nearly 30 years ago. Restricting local governments from placing rent control on singlefamily homes and apartments built after 1995. It also allowed landlords to increase rents as much as they like once a tenant moves out. Now, nearly 3 decades after that law passed the aids Healthcare Foundation has led the effort to repeal it with this ballot measure and others in the past. The group placed similar measures on the ballot in 2018 2020 but both failed. We need rent control because people are having trouble paying it. But opponents, including the California Apartment Association or c a a are against the measure arguing it will hurt the very people. It is trying to help. Tonight, state Health Officials worried valley fever. Theyve got a warning out. They say a combination of heavy winter rains following severe Drought Conditions throughout the state is increasing growth of the fungus which causes this illness. The disease can spread anywhere and the bay areas no exception. Valley fever is similar to the common cold or the flu. But the symptoms seem to last longer. Sometimes it can take one to 3 weeks sometimes longer before you actually have symptoms. So we might not actually see getting sick in till later in the summer or early fall. Valley fever can easily be treated with antifungal medication. They say the disease only spreads through the air and not true person to person contact. The Santa Clara County Sheriffs Office is facing criticism tonight over how its deputies treated muslim woman. The council on American Islamic relations is claiming deputies yanked the womans headscarf off while booking her into the elmwood correctional facility in milpitas. Members say thats a violation of her religious beliefs, Constitutional Rights and dignity. The group is demanding a public apology and a monetary settlement. The Sheriffs Office says that it did review the Surveillance Video and says force was not used. Another bus carrying migrants from the southern border arrived in la today. Its the 7th bus sent to Southern California since june. Its not known who sent this bus, but many of the previous ones were sent on the orders of Texas Governor greg abbott in response to what he calls president joe bidens inadequate border policies. Todays bus carried 49 migrants, the largest count yet the previous by scary. 36 people from texas on july 27th. All of the migrants will be processed welcoming center, then provided resources like housing and legal guidance. This comes Immigration Reform advocates in the bay area will begin a threeday march into San Francisco did to a demand congressional action on immigration tomorrow. And as kron first theresa stasi reports, this is intended to be a warning to everybody about price mistakes. During a year and a half period, marine county Officials Say inspectors discovered Safeway Stores overcharge consumers at several locations, including the store at town center in corte madera it. They found commodities where there were significant overcharges, their shampoo. Theres toilet paper. Theres produce. You can get all these items. So if the problem is truly that, you know, the shelf prices are being updated in the timely fashion, that any of those items are fair game. Scott, ways of marin county, agriculture, weights and measures says california laws states during an inspection. 99 of items tested must be correctly priced and check out. Court documents indicate in 2020 hice was charged with Forcible Rape of a minor in oakland with a special allegation that he also kidnapped the victim. A Police Report indicates in addition to having, he also punched the victim before dragging her out of his car. He eventually pleaded no contest to a lesser charge assault with a deadly weapon. And the other charges were dismissed. Hi, ended up serving just 56 days in jail and was put on probation prior to that in 2016. Hi, she was 22 at the time was charged with 2 crimes for allegedly having with a 16 yearold Newark Junior High School student. He ended up pleading no contest to unlawful intercourse and served 60 days in the Alameda County jail. And in 2013 he was charged with shooting at an inhabited dwelling in oakland. But the charges were dropped due to insufficient evidence. Authorities say lived in the bay area from 2012 to 2021 and they believe there may be other victims. But really all eyes on places like dallas who have the High Pressure dome just sitting on top of them. Theyre looking at the next 7 days of triple digits around 105 with no chance of rain. So it just shows you how hot it is parts of our country right now as we speak. But thankfully for us, its not that hot. You can see that oakland, your average is 71. And thats right. Where were at livermore. Your average is 88. Were at 86 and even santa rosa. Your averages. 83. And were at 81. Again, low pressure, high were right in the middle. Bringing us average temperatures yesterday. We couldnt even get close to average. So today just a tick warmer and tomorrow is going to be a tick warmer. That High Pressure system is going to make its way to us heating up the inland temperatures bringing us above average temperatures. So we went from below average to above average in some places like inland 102. So thats going to heat up for us. You can see that right here.
