The state changing its position allowing them to reopen. Thats correct Santa Clara County has given the thumbsup to cities to welcome families back and kron 4 sleep to call reports now from the city of santa clara, where the playgrounds officially reopened today. Warmly welcome breath of fresh closer spending a few Weekend Hours at Live Oak Park in the city of santa clara was said to be prohibited a week ago if the states reversal on covid19 guidance allowing playgrounds to reopen a boost for families with young kids are missing at the look you know this despite data shared by the Santa Clara County public Health Department showing virus case rates are still trending up shes out about learning a foot in at this age, its really important to get some fresh air and some the citys parks and Recreation Department spent the past few days cleaning and sanitizing its playgrounds before officially reopening saturday. In santa clara phillipe djegal all kron 4 news. Ahead tonight on kron 4 news at a san mateo is one of the newest the b ring counties, not in a stay at home order tonight. We talked with one of the local board of supervisors on his more bay area counties could be under a stayathome order soon. Sonoma county joining 5 other bay area counties under an early stay at home order. The only counties that have not implemented in early health order right now are napa solano in san mateo counties. But if icu capacity is across the bay area region drop below 15 . Those counties would be forced to implement a stay at home order. As a region, the bay area is close to 18 capacity, the states threshold, this 15 . Heres a look at the capacities for the county is not currently in that stay at home order you can see San Mateo County sitting at 9 . Joining us right now to talk about the potential of San Mateo County joining the rest of the bay area in those stay at home orders is San Mateo County supervisor david canepa. Thank you so much for joining us tonight. Okay so people want to know why not San Mateo County. What what makes well makes it so different. Yeah, you i agree with those people i think we should align with the other county. Other what weve done now is weve kind of created an island. Theyre about 5. 2 million people. Thats around us that are under stay at home order. But san mateo we are not in so. A hospital in daly is a 100 full with patients i heard the Kaiser Hospital whichois in the northern part of the county is also full so make no mistake about it. Immediately what we should do is we should join those other counties and stay at home immediately i know from my family and for myself. We are staying at home. I know the county there is asked folks to take hyper vigilance sort of speak as opposed to just joining. That stay at home order. What are you doing to kind of convince your colleagues to move in that direction to wear. You believe youre saying that but what are you doing to kind of convention colleagues to move in that direction. Well look its my colleagues that are Decision Makers on one of the constitution, the california state constitution. Its the Health Officer who makes that a determination and our Health Officers, the one who could put the the stay at home order enjoying these other counties and we can be aligned and so what were trying to do is to really sort of emphasize to him and were starting to see it with our malls being fall and people coming from other parts the bay area that its just important that we align ourselves with these other counties and we need to do it now because the numbers our dramatically taking a case for the worse you look at our our case number today in San Mateo County. Those are new cases. It was the worst ever since the pandemic and so the numbers dont lie the data doesnt life and hopefully well be able to do is the follow Sonoma Countys lead selfimposed a stay at home order and so im optimistic that our Health Officer will join other Health Officers in doing that. So your Health Officer did give an interview to npr today explaining some of the Decision Making saying that. They understand that for the past 4 weeks. Cases going up of mostly been in adults between 2030 years old. Those were that where the highest rates were happening and that he didnt believe that putting in this stay at home order early was going to change their behavior because of the demographic of the group that was violating the order so much so that they wont change number one in the number 2 that its not enforceable you could put these rules into place but theres nothing to back it up theres no Law Enforcement behind it. So thats why he saying the decision was made what can be done to reach out to this group where the rates are up the highest its now or never. Well look i mean there are other county officer county Health Officers. That are saying different not in terms of what hes talking about in the social gatherings but remember we first dealt with this pandemic. The stay at home shelter in place was rather. Effective. Initially and so we know it works and if you look at other countries, especially on london. Theyre similar belgium but to get your question. What are we doing in San Mateo County about it what weve created. I want to first counties in the state of california to create a Compliance Team making sure that we hold people. Accountable that are in violation of the Health Orders and so that is extremely. Extremely important and so we need to be hyper vigilant. We need to be of focus and so obviously our goal is to educate educate educate. But sometimes especially with this Compliance Team. We do people who are chronic violators people who flout the the health order and so we need to hold them accountable and thats why if with a fine structure to do that. You mention the fact San Mateo County right now at 9 icu bed capacity to the south of you in Santa Clara County even drastically worse there. If for some reason the county does reach that 0 can you talk a little bit about what the game plan is moving forward to help the most vulnerable. Critically ill patients from this virus. What well look i mean we need to have there was there is one place. You know sort of a system where we can all work. Collaboratively together and my understanding you know the counties are just operating by themselves in terms of patients you know they have a plan. That they they put together amongst themselves and so if you can recall about 4, 5, months ago 6 months ago. Im seeing hospital was used as a a regional covid center to take patients in fact lead to patients. From marin county which from san clinton and so the collaboration is there the counties and amongst the bay area but we have to try to avoid is and you see it in Southern California. Im so the issues in Southern California and the central valley. There a q but i do think in terms the cloud or asian amongst Health Officers and health. Directors that we really sort of have a plan in place to deal with all this. But you can have a plan in place. But you dont know what could potentially. Happen. You know and so depending on the severity of it i feel. That they have a plan thats manageable and that will work. And theres a chance San Mateo County could enter in this stay at home order anyway regardless of the other bay area counties starting sooner icu capacity could dip below 15 at any time now so the county could be there anyway. Thank you for its just like you said its just a matter of time. Its its going to happen whether its selfimposed today or whether its tuesday or wednesday of the way the numbers are trending. Were going to be there. But why wait when we just try to get out ahead of it. Be in alignment might huge concern is is that in San Mateo County were going to be attracting people from other parts of the bay area may want to go to the malls Christmas Season is coming up they want to go to. Restaurants and right now were in life saving we are in life saving mode and so need to make sure. That were just extraordinarily vigilant. Supervisor kind you so much for joining us here on kron 00 00am tonight. Im a wonderful evening and thank you. Thank you. Meanwhile, our coronavirus coverage continues right now at kron 4 dot com. A new video created by San Francisco International Airport is encouraging. Mask wearing and social distancing and a very fun way, even though travel is down significantly this year. Those who do decide to take to the skies have noticed a lot of changes at our airports because of the pandemic the impetus for the video was really just we wanted to educate people about you know covid and making sure that they were falling a proper safety protocols. And we wanted to do it in a way that was memorable engaging and fun and i thought why not a rap video. So we looked around the airport and it ended up that one of our civil engineers, rob gray was a rapper in a former life and he agreed to help out with the video and we did the lyrics together and he ended up singing it needed a fantastic job and you know this was just sort an airport right effort we included the airlines because you know they are so much a part of daily operations at and also the City Employees that work you know a phone and a lot of them have these and pacing you never knew you know there was a great dancer and we had a guy play saxophone a lot of multi talented staff and they were all really excited to be a part of his positive message and to do something that was actually fun for a change. Some rain falling there yesterday, anyone dancing on the runway some people in the dancing to get out towners of theyre going to place you notice. All right meteorologist Mabrisa Rodriguez is here tonight forecast and rain is on the way. Yeah rain is on the way and also snow showers for those of you in the sierra lets take a quick check at your top hope forecast because were tracking dry weather at least for now, but thats all going to change. During the overnight hours in fact we have a winter storm warning and a Winter Weather advisory going into effect sunday morning through monday. Thats because were expecting another round of impressive snow totals below 6500 feet expect 2 to 6 inches of fresh powder above 6 to hunt the 6500 feet we could see 8 to 16 inches. Highest peace could actually see upwards of 17 inches for this year a crest and also choppy waves throughout South Lake Tahoe up to 2 to 3 feet so lets take a look at your sierra forecast because we are tracking cool weather in the 30 so were going to be below average, perfect snow conditions because this is going to be a stronger colder storm so instead of getting that slushy mix of that wet weather with the rain and snow this is going to be full snow showers and then by monday mostly sunny skies warming up into the mid 40s exactly where you should be this time of year by tuesdays so even this wet weather helping out this year boosted snowpack levels last i checked 35 of average so all the snow this weekend certainly going to help him.
